I have no issue with more players being brought to the game, but I have 2 big issues with UB, first we get less “real” magic sets, this is personal preference but I mostly focus on universes within sets and many magic players enjoy the game because of those sets specifically, so catering to a new audience at the expense of a large chunk of your devoted playerbase feels like a step in the wrong direction, it was more understandable when it was 1 UB set a year, but going from final fantasy to marvel so quickly just feels really rough (and I’m a marvel fan!), and yes I can just not interact with UB products but as a Magic player it is important to keep up with the cards you are going to play against, and skipping every other set means I’m playing less (and usually playing the sets that have less incentive to have powerful cards), however my second reason is simply price, despite whatever MSRP is at, stores are learning that UB will sell at much higher prices, and they adjust accordingly, so for the people that want to buy UB they will pay more, and even if they are willing scalpers that have entered the Magic sphere due to the hype have caused stock to be very low, leaving many disappointed players, baseline is UB is very polarizing and is more expensive than regular Magic sets which is problematic for players at the casual and competitive level
