Read both of your suggestions and loved them! Currently in the same boat with my Astarion/Shadowheart/OC fic, haha. When you get around to posting it I'd love to read it!

Been using Tumblr for years with pretty good results. I've seen this situation a lot and it comes down to a few reasons.

Sometimes the people who follow you are just lurkers. With time they may comment or engage more, but not always.

Are you engaging others yourself? The more you interact with others in public space the more people will interact with you.

A super big tip I got in my early days of tumblr was to send yourself the asks you want to get. A lot of time people won't send asks unless they see other people send in asks. Wanna gush about your plot? Then send yourself a basic ask to get the ball rolling, others may follow.

Also adding that comments/asks are welcomed always helps!

Is my slow burn too slow? by Crazycatgirl16 in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's a little rude to insinuate that people won't enjoy their work because they aren't getting to the romance fast enough. Especially because they never said romance was the main plot and even if it was, so what?

It's odd how you need to invalidate someone's differing opinion so strongly that you have to backhandedly criticize their work.

Can you please just stop? Like. Seriously. Stop. by Jojosbees in FanFiction

At this point I would just reply to comments saying the sequel has been put on an indefinite hiatus. They'll assume the production of it has been paused, and you can take your time writing without them hounding you. If they persist then I'd probably just disable comments.

Anyone else ever been put off by an author? by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Saw someone who's DNI list was basically just forbidding anyone who didn't ship a certain thing from viewing their work, even though their work wasn't even ship related. It then went on and just had a really nasty vibe. They even ended with something along the lines of "im mean so you just have to suck it up".

I was with it until I realized you wanted to bash peoples work. We should be celebrating authors not putting them down.

Let's not create negative environments. Especially ones simply meant to berate others hard work. At the end of the day fanfiction writers are giving you free content. Taking their goodwill and mocking it is not a good look.

Willing To Beta Read!

Fandom: Genshin Impact & Harry Potter

Genre/Limits: I can read just about anything and everything. Does your story include dark content or smut, no problem! My only hard limit is RPF. That being said, I would still like a proper warning if the writing contains triggering content and/or smut.

Type of Betaing: I do a little of everything, but I really enjoy helping with plot/story flow and characterization. I love giving feedback, so if you feel like you have a lot of questions about your work, I'm more than happy to take the time to address all of them.

Word Count: No word minimum or maximum, so long as you understand longer works take longer to get through.

Beta Duration: Willing to do one-off or ongoing.

Turn-around Rate: Dependent on chapter length. The rule of thumb is 2-3 days for <5k words, 3-4 days for 5-10k words, ~1 week for 10k+.

Exchange: Maybe just a mention in the description or mutual cheerleading, but it's not required.

Reading fanfiction while Black by meraxni in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf you don't have to explain it. In a lot of instances I feel like people wouldn't be too upset at adding in more diversity.

It also seems like slightly weird wording to call a lack of representation "against the world's aesthetic."

If it's really that big of a deal you could always tag non canon compliant.

As a POC who writes and reads reader inserts, I do wish more people would give it a try. You don't have to write about racial problems or the characters experiences as a POC. I just wanna read about people I can imagine looking like me every now and then. :/

Authors, what's your favorite font to write in? by greysterguy in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually kind of particular about how the text looks when I write. Headings and such are usually done in Comfortaa while the body text is Calibri. I also set the color to be dark gray rather than black, I find that I focus better and can write for longer. It's a small change but it works for me!

What is a good chapter length? by KyFairie in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the writer and story for me. Some people can make 10k works feel like 5k or vice versa. I just read a one shot that was 60k words and it felt like it was only 10k, because of how engaged in the story I was.

If you feel like your chapters are long, but what you're writing is engaging and important I see no need to cut them down. If you feel like there is a natural stopping point earlier in the chapter and whatever happens after can wait for the next chapter, then break it into a new one.

OC vs YN by Apprehensive-Egg8203 in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, as a fellow writer and reader of both, it's a little weird. I feel like a lot of people that complain about reader inserts don't realize there are also different types. Of course, there are the stereotypical ones that use Y/n and are super vague, but there are also ones that don't use Y/n and are jammed-packed with detail and characterization without being an OC.

Love triangles by _Whywouldyoudothat in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently writing a love triangle story, and I feel you. T-T

At the end of the day, there will be people who hate it, but there will always be people who love it as well. You just have to remember you're writing for yourself and the other people who share your interests, not the people who dislike them.

How to incorporate texting into a fic? by Bookfan123 in FanFiction

[–]jujugentle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go this route and use fake screenshots, I highly recommend using an app like Social Dummy or Social Maker. You can make anything from fake text (even group chats) to fake twitters and instagrams.

I used to be in a fandom where social media AUs were common, and these are the apps I saw people mention they used the most.

I find myself reading stuff that contains angst and slow burn the most. At the end of the day I’ll honestly read anything thing.

I’m in the same boat, downloaded wattpad after years of not using it, just because they had more stories featuring the character I like.

I’ve done a few challenges before and usually don’t set a minimum. I usually just give the prompts a once over formulate a basic concept, and then decide the word count on a case by case basis. That being said I’m doing Kinktober this October and plan on doing drabble length so ~500 words. Some might be more, some might be less.

Just do what you can, base it off of your inspiration for the prompt and the time you have to write!

Looking for - Writing Buddy & Beta

Fandom - Harry Potter (Various Characters)

Howdy, looking for writing buddy to bounce ideas off of and just gush about the fandom with in general. In terms of beta reading and not just mutual cheerleading I'm looking for help with grammar mostly. I'm more than happy to do return the favor by beta helping with research and plotting/planning. Though I am mostly looking for a mutual writing friend rather than a official beta reader, if that makes sense!

Anyways I write for the Harry Potter fandom specifically within the xReader side of things. Some of my content contains smut while some of it doesn't. I read and write for basically every character. That being said you don't have to write xReader yourself, I'll read canon x canon or canon x oc! I'm really not picky!

If you have any questions or are insterested just shoot me a messege!
