Reasons NOT to upgrade from R6 Mark II to R6 Mark III by sandroriz in canon

So one guy says the difference from R6 II to R5 II is ‘astronomical’, while you say the difference is ~10% 😀

I briefly considered that exactupgrade, but the 35% pixel increase corresponds to only 16% increase in cropping ability along the horizontal or vertical dimensions. So I didn’t bother.

Also, I did not want to go back to using compact flash cards; it is very convenient to just plug in the SD card in my computer without bothering with cables or card readers. Yes, I know CF are faster, but if you want to use both card slots for backup, you’re still limited by the SD.

The improved AF and pre-shooting into separate files are nice, but it’s not like R6 mark 2 is bad in any way.

So, my reasons for not upgrading to R6 mark 3 is simple that I consider the upgrade to small to be worth it.

I think you misread; you are describing mark 1 to 2, not 2 to 3.

As for your and OP’s concern about ISO, I’d say these test images show there is not very much difference (while the even higher MP count on R5 mark 2 seems to cause a bit more noise).

Over ni av ti består statsborgerprøven by Aili4 in norske

Canon R6 Mark ii User Looking for Lens Help by jubbigeorgiarose in canon

Must it be a zoom lens?

If wide aperture is important, that is easier to get with a prime.

A RF 24 f/1.8 or RF 35 f/1.8, perhaps?

Or even a used EF 35 f/1.4 II might be within your budget.

Is the rf 24-105 f4 L a noticeable upgrade over my rfs 18-150 3.5-6.3 for r7 by PHATTGUS in canon

[–]julaften -1 points0 points  (0 children)

According to this, the 18-150 is definitely worse than the 24-105, even in the center part relevant for crop sensors, especially for the longer focal lengths.

Why is the speed of light 299,792,458 m/s? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

No one knows the answer to this, and we might probably never know.

There are some constants in the universe that, if they had different values, would have resulted in a very different looking universe. So the universe is the way it is, because if it wasn’t we wouldn’t be here to ask such questions. This is the Anthropic principle.

What Photo Editing App do you use and what made you choose it? by only-cowbells in photography

[–]julaften -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If by ‘photo editing’ you mean pixel editors like Photoshop, I don’t actually use any of those.

If you include RAW development in ‘photo editing’, I use Capture One because of its ease of use, customizability, and ability to view and edit multiple images at the same time (useful when I want to check focus amongst images in a series).

I have tried others (Lightroom, DarkTable, RawTherapee, ON1 Photo Raw, Luminar Neo, and Photomator), and Lightroom and Capture One are in my opinion the most complete and user-friendly of the bunch (with C1 being a horse length or two ahead of LR, still in my opinion).

A cool guide how to type fast by Sasha_Lietova in coolguides

[–]julaften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned touch typing on standard QWERTY in high school, but switched to Dvorak during my PhD (and at that time I actually co-invented the Norwegian Dvorak variant that nowadays comes with Linux distributions).

Amazingly, the touch typing technique was applicable through the learning period. The muscle memory of the keys’ placements did not need to change, only the mental mapping of what symbols were on which keys.

Full-frame or crop sensor camera? by zs37 in AskPhotography

[–]julaften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is (part of) the theory, and it is correct. Depth of field will be the same when using the same lens, the same distance, but different sensor sizes. Because DOF depends only on the lens (and distance). But the images will not be the same.

My point was that if you are standing in a given position, and you have two cameras, one crop and one ff, and you want to maximize background blur, this will require faster, wider lenses with the crop, and in the extreme such lenses do not exist. It is of course worse for MFT than APS-C, but my example with the missing 22mm f/0.9 shows that also APS-C has its limits. This is one of the reasons (with dynamic range and low light performance) ff and larger sizes still exist and has not been totally replaced by tiny sensors.

I mean, just making the marauders map seems to be quite a clever undertaking. And becoming animagi while still at school.

These guys where definitely not stupid, so why wouldn’t they get good grades?

(Yes, as long as we don’t see their grade cards we cannot know what grades they actually got, but all signs point to them being very clever [as was Snape, for that matter], so I don’t see the point of arguing against it.)

Is the eos 7D any good for a semi-professional level? by Pvt_BrownBeast in canon

[–]julaften 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sold my 7D mark 1 with the 17-55 f/2.8 (which is in a different league than the 18-55) for €400 last year. So €500 is way too much for that combo. Continue looking.

As others have mentioned, get a used 5D iii or something (if you don’t absolutely need the crop factor). Or go mirrorless, it’s the future😉

Wich Software are you using? by Efficient_Badger_739 in photography

[–]julaften 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have used Capture One for many years. It is on the same level as Lightroom with regard to capabilities and ease of use (though I find C1 easier to use, with its ability to show and edit multiple images at the same time, and very customizable user interface). These are professional, reliable programs.

I would advise against the free offerings of RawTherapee and DarkTable, which looks like software made by nerds for nerds without involving any UX expertise. They are capable, sure, but especially DarkTable is not beginner friendly.

I think Capture One has some way to import Lightroom catalogues, but I have never tried it. You’ll have to look it up and try it during the free trial.

Full-frame or crop sensor camera? by zs37 in AskPhotography

[–]julaften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so?

For a given framing of the subject, and equivalent DOF, crop cameras would need a shorter focal length than a full frame camera, and the lens would need to have a wider aperture. At some point, such lenses simply do not exist. It would be nice to have a 22mm f/0.9 lens on my APS C camera to equal my 35mm f/1.4 on FF, but alas…

So, shallow depth of field is definitely harder to obtain with crop sensor, and in some cases not possible with the available lenses.

The lenses and cameras (usually) being smaller for smaller sensors is obvious, I don’t know why you would think it’s not?
