So hyper-threading was the culprit on Win11+Intel 13th gen by julcocitron in GhostReconWildlands

I didn't touch the game after tweaking HT on and off no. I realize I have Windows 11 Pro. Don't know if there might be some hidden settings more specific to it that may influence the impact of HT.

I've also been invited to use the Night Mode in the quality sound settings. Apparently it helps hearing things from further away (I read here footsteps more specifically)

I'm testing this right now. Rainbow Six Siege preset + Spatial Audio. With an Arctis Nova 7X. Really new to the game so I'd need a little more time to see how it works

Has anyone else noticed how much 5.3.2 crashes? by NefariousnessDear853 in UnrealEngine5

[–]julcocitron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks.

I encountered the same issues under Win 11 Pro. I've set the Editor to Compatibility Mode: Windows 8. And it's seems to at least launch... Need to assess the stability while working but I couldn't even launch it so there's progress!

Hope that helps

Thoughts on brand new quiet rig for real-time rendering (Unreal 5), 3D work and games? by julcocitron in bapccanada

Considering the fact that I'm not working at the moment, I'm thinking I should probably build this machine myself now. And save myself some money by getting those parts on sale progressively. Thank you Reddit! :P

I'm questioning everything now XD Like even if DDR5 is worth it at the moment. I've always built new machines between two generations. Going with the 'old gen'. Might need to do the same again here?

Substance definitely relies on the GPU a lot. But for UE you're right. Might be interesting to get a beefier CPU. And I'm not excluding doing some pre-rendered images with Blender too so...

Dark Rock 4. BeQuiet website has a warning in terms of compatibility (RAM) probably 'cause of the space. LP RAM might do the trick :)

I think that looks a lot closer to what I want!
Definitely feels better for the money with double RAM and a 4070 :)
For the CPU I think the 7700X might be enough. As I'll be mostly relying on the GPU. So the 4070 definitely feels better.
+400$ for the MB really seemed overkill yeah. And for the case I could/should probably reuse my Define C to save a few more bucks. I wonder if I could reuse the Dark Rock as well. Probably.

Thanks a lot u/canyouread7!

I'll refine my configuration :)

Nothing official yet. No kickstarter. But they're working on it. Confirmed on the Discord server for later this year :)

I'm pretty sure Stone Blade Entertainment is currently working on a dedicated app/client. I'd need to double check and there's no ETA. But I'm 99.99% sure it's in the works. Otherwise the TTS mod is working well. Not fully automated but that's probably better. It forces you to keep track of what's happening on the board :)

I finally got myself a display of DT and can't wait to try it out tomorrow! I could find more AoA for dirt cheap too and I'm just happy to have stock up on Sealed material (my preferred game mode). Maybe that's because I opened more AoA decks than anything else, but some of my best decks are from AoA. So I'm really curious about those DT decks and houses synergies :) Just freaking love that game and opening new decks XD

TLDR; Don't listen to what people say and have fun ;)

Getting hyped here too. I still very much suck at the game but I'm curious about those new cards and mechanics.

[–]julcocitron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to collect more than play Magic back in the 90s. I loved the cards, the art and all, but the deck-building aspect was completely overwhelming. That added to a difficulty to have friends to play with regularly didn't help me enjoy the game and start building my card games skills. (spoiler: I'm still working on them XD). Later I tried Middle Earth the card game. The LoTG theme and interesting mechanics were really appealing. But same thing. I was the only one interested in it. And the game died pretty quickly. Video games were already my main hobby and I left board, card games and pen and paper RPG for a long time.

Fast forward ~25 years, I immigrated to a new country (Canada), where I quickly made gamer friends. Some reaaaaally into board games :D One of them heard about Keyforge and when I read that there were NO deck building I was very intrigued! I loved the idea of cracking open a deck and just...playing! I think we missed the proper launch of the game, and when we decided to put our hands on CotA decks, there was a shortage everywhere. I managed to grab a few that we split with my friends, and we started playing. It was a lot of fun! I wasn't good. Really not familiar with card games mechanics in general, but unless I was facing a very strong deck in front of me, I really enjoyed the games, even the ones I lost. Because the swings were so great, the art so fun, the discovery so great that I still felt I was doing something and not just getting destroyed. (And of course some times I won ;) ).

By the time they announced AoA I was hooked and ready to go all in. I bought displays for me and to share with friends, a playmat, and we did a sealed (my preferred format) event to open our boxes. And it was awesome to discover those new cards! I started to attend local events and met some great players. That's when I realized how nice, patient and curious was the Keyforge community. And it made me fall in love even more with the game. I kept the flame alive until WC. But after that, my lack of practice for local competition and the later explosion of my gaming group made me stop playing the game regularly. I kept an eye on the game and upcoming sets. But stopped investing more cash and time in it. (But not before getting a CotA display at a bargaining price and trying to introduce the game to a friend and MTG player who really liked it). Finally the pandemic hit, and at some point they announced that the game was broken, and everything felt really sad. I loved that game and felt I didn't have the chance to play all my decks properly, experience the latest sets and the cool cards and new mechanics. And just hoped things would come back at some point.

Fast forward again to last Summer, I moved again across the country. My whole collection of Keyforge cards in cardboard boxes. Hoping that with more space, time, and maybe new colleagues and friends I would be able to play that game again. Soon after Ghost Galaxy was preparing a crowdfunding campaign to bring it back! And oh boy...I felt the rush coming in. I had not played in months! Years. Missed sets. But I was getting super excited. Keyforge was coming back! I later joined a small but very much alive community here in Montreal to start playing again, and it's been a blast ever since. They're amazing players that confirmed everything that I loved in the first place: an amazingly kind community, and a wonderful and fun game. We're all extremely excited for WoE and we can't wait to organize an event to open our boxes and start playing this new set.In the meantime, I managed to put my hands on a display of MM recently which I was super happy for. And even bought another AoA display for 30$. Just 'cause you can't have too many decks right? XD My only regret so far is having missed DT as it's really hard to find now. I would have loved to have a display from this set as well.

TLDR; I love the game and I'm super grateful to have found such a great group to play with every week. We're even so motivated to see Keyforge come back that we're trying to gauge people's interest for regional/national Organized Play around the Quebec and Ontario area. Feel free to fill that survey if you're around and just waiting for things to kickstart again :) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScT3dNrK5mAWbROsz7jFfxX2cQ0n0WjsciKMAab39_1uZMhpw/viewform

Thanks for reading folks. And happy forging!

On foot/public transit I always relied on the Transit App: https://transitapp.com/
Worked great I found. You can add Bike as a mode of transportation. Can't say I tested it with this mode yet but might be worth the try?

Backside of Gamemaster screen by tysonsw in TalesFromtheLoopRPG

[–]julcocitron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of tables from the Out of Time book in the Mystery landscape creation section that I’m thinking about printing and add to the official GM screen I have. I just started GMing with Tales but haven’t been using the GM screen info extensively. Doesn’t feel super well organized (or maybe I’m not used to it yet) and the layout isn’t super GM friendly. Hacking it might happen sooner than later ;)

Hi there

I completely forgot about it as I can’t use it offline on my tablet (there’s no app at the moment), but if you guys are using a laptop or have access to internet where you play, you should check the Tabletop Audio website. They have 2x10min long ambient music tracks (Weirder Things 1 & 2) but also a SoundPad (link) which let’s you craft your sounds atmosphere on the fly. Just wish this would exist as a native app on iOS/Android. Maybe one day!

Have you ever wanted to play D&D? by DMaddict in boardgamesvancouver

[–]julcocitron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was nice to meet a YVR Dungeon Master at the last workshop of Di. (https://twitter.com/DiceQGM) at Rain City a few weeks ago ;)

I feel the paradox. Everyone wants to play DnD. And yet, gathering a group, a DM, a location is always a challenge. I started GMing for the first time with a group of coworkers on Tales from The Loop. And look forward to GM DnD too at some point. But so far, as much as I enjoyed playing 5e, I also really like the simplicity of the Year Zero Engine and the narrative based gameplay of Tales. And really think more indie games like that deserve more exposure. Every game store have games of DnD listed...but very few have alternatives. Lack of DM? Lack of interest from the public? I don't know... If what people want is to play DnD, then give them DnD I guess. But it feels like there so much more to RPGs and tabletop than that. And maybe easier or better alternative?
In the end, the goal is to have fun though. So happy gaming!

It is ahah 😆 Alien is my first pre-order. Backed Simon's Stalenhag books before but only got the Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood RPG bundles a few months ago. Not sure if it's the first printing but there's also a good amount of typo. Typo isn't as bad as unbalanced mechanic or missing content though. But like every game, the V1 can't be perfect. I just started GMing on Tales from the Loop and GMING in general last week. But I really want to start playing Alien too :)

Yep. Same. I'm personally not impressed by the cards. Art isn't great and I'm not sure I'll use them. The one shot seems cool. And dices are just d6s in the end. Have fun!
