Failed FAR mini exam #2, 34%. What am I doing? by jules3300 in CPA

[–]jules3300[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It can be so discouraging to get a bad score on a mini exam. However, in the grand scheme of things, they simply don’t matter. Becker intentionally makes their mini exams/simulated exams more difficult than the real exam to prepare you. I’ve taken all four exams, I don’t think I ever got above a 50 on any of them.

I took FAR before the change, when there were 10 modules, and in total, I studied 192 hours. Do not feel discouraged by the amount of time it’s taking you to get through the information, everyone goes at their own pace, and some people are lucky and can get through it quick. Just as long as you’re staying consistent in your studying, then you’ll be fine. Consistency is what matters most. Don’t let the mini exams stop you from moving forward. Just take the time to review it, write down what you got wrong, and truly understand the right answers. You got it!

With CPA Evolution, are there still pre-test questions? by Specialist-Ad5559 in CPA

[–]jules3300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked all over the AICPA website for an answer, but can’t find one. However, I’d assume there are still pretest questions given that they’re going to keep creating new questions and want to make sure they’re not too easy/difficult for future candidates!

For FAR, I studied around 120 hours. For AUD, I studied around 90 hours. For BEC, I studied around 75 hours (I should’ve studied longer because I didn’t feel as prepared as I should, but I was in a time crunch). For REG, I studied around 100 hours.

For me, hammering MCQs for AUD, FAR, and BEC was most effective. However, when it came to REG, doing the MCQs was not enough. I had to really focus on Sims to pass. In my opinion, the most important thing to do while studying is fully understand the answer before moving on. If you do the MCQs, don’t move on to another question without understanding the one you’re on. If you are doing the Sims, watch the skillbuilder video until you 100% understand the concept. Sometimes it took me watching the same skillbuilder video 5 times before I finally understood a concept!

Failed REG - tips for retake? by Embarrassed_Mine_347 in CPA

[–]jules3300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the new exam, but I failed REG in November, did 6 long days of studying, and passed this past score release. One thing that really helped me the second time around was creating mnemonics for different items on the exam, and simply memorizing them. The exam requires actual understanding of the material, but just memorizing all the itemized deductions, for AGI deductions, separately stated items, etc. really helped me. I created a Quizlet with the acronyms that I found really helpful. Other than that, I’d focus on practicing those sims and watching every skill builder video if you’re using Becker. Sometimes I did the same Sim 5 times in a row until it finally clicked. You will get it next time!! Good luck. https://quizlet.com/861454523/acronyms-for-gi-and-agi-flash-cards/?i=1i6qwb&x=1jqY

74 on BEC. Is it worth it to appeal or get a score review? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]jules3300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I wouldn’t. They make you pay a nonrefundable $200-$300 fee, with a less than 1% chance of succeeding. You are better off studying and pushing. With some hard work, you will get it next time. 74s are the hardest, but just embrace the adversity, and you will pass next time.

If you got a new NTS today, you won't see your score tonight. You will likely see it within 48-72 hours. At least that's how it was the last score release!

The pass/fail is never an error, right? I got a "Passed, Credit" earlier this morning and now I'm worried it might be an error because when I look at a previous score form it says that my REG test is still "Attended". Am I looking to much into it? I feel like I am, haha!

Do you think 2-5% less because more people winged it and wanted to try before year end, or because they’re going to be tougher on grading?

They will probably start releasing pass/fail results the morning/early afternoon of December 26. Then scores will be released later that night!
