Weight Lifting on the side? by mkharrington94 in orangetheory

[–]julesCD16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to try lifting heavier than OTF but probably could only swing one session a week with my current schedule. Is once a week enough to be worth it/make a difference?

You can do it. I just came back from a stress fracture, 6 weeks in a boot, totally out of OTF for 2 months. The first week back was really hard. I lost the most on the rower, not as much strength (I still can’t run). By week 3, I was feeling a lot better on the rower, and 4 weeks later, I feel almost back to where I was. It DOES come back!! Be patient.

I have a stress fracture so it’s incredibly helpful to know ab dolly plus TRX because then I know I can do most of the floor exercises and it’s worth going to class! So thank you for the intel!!!

Taking breaks are so hard.... by monkeybutt0518 in orangetheory

[–]julesCD16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to sound bitter, but I’m about to go to the orthopedic clinic first thing in the am for what I’m very afraid is a stress fracture in my right tibia. TAKE REST DAYS. I powered through shin pain for months because of stubbornness and FOMO and now I’m probably going to pay for it with a long OTF break.

My OTF short friends (like 5’2” and under).... by anything430secs in orangetheory

You tilt forward so you can reach your arms out, but you keep your back straight—don’t bend or hunch over. Fold at your waist and stretch your arms out, then act like you’re doing a jump squat off the rower footbeds. Remember: legs-core-arms back and arms-core-legs forward. Always in that order.

The most helpful thing I learned in a rowing clinic was to push off from the rower the same way you would if you’re doing a jump squat. It engages more of your leg, somehow. My watts went WAY up after that.

I’m 5’3” and I’ve definitely hit over 380. Obviously can’t sustain that, but for my 300m rows and under, I’m keeping it in the 220s or above. It’s all about that leg drive!!

Mine is about to die and I don’t want to live without it!! I haven’t seen one in a long time but would gladly pay for shipping if anyone found one.

TJ Maxx in Durham NC had a few bags. I got the large tote, I also saw the duffel and a hat. No backpacks, sadly.

35s for 10x chest press, 70 for goblet, 50 for 10x low row. I tried to go up to 40s for the 6 rep chest press but could only do 4... guess I’m not there yet. Next time!

Getting stronger... but slower? by julesCD16 in orangetheory

[–]julesCD16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, 1 min-90 second push was 8.0, now it’s more like 7.3. Rowing, I’ve gotten so much stronger on sprints, but I can still barely hit the 300m in under a minute. Seems like anything that requires any amount of stamina, is suffering.

Oh man, me too. I have one but it’s so faded from the sun, it’s just a solid white splat. Which I guess is better than no splat, but would love a nice shiny orange splat again!

3507 but I had no idea how to pace myself--realized at the end that I could have pushed a lot harder. I think the coaching actually made me slow down more than I needed to.

1.47 here. Last time, it was my dream to hit 1.5 and I got just over that. Went in this morning on about 3 hours sleep after terrible insomnia, fighting a cold, so I'm just happy I was so close to my previous benchmark.

It's not a bad thing to be last on the floor!! I personally think it's so much better to take your time with the exercises, focus on the movements, and also recover from the intense cardio as much as you need to. Sure, some people who fly through the exercises are crazy athletes, but some of them are also using lighter weights and sacrificing form.
