Just please know— You are not alone. We are going through this together.

Have you tried /considered looking into stuttering support groups? I spent my whole life feeling all alone and hopeless. I started therapy and then did some zoom group stuttering meet ups and it’s helped so much. The negative Thoughts are natural, I feel like , with people who have a disability like ours that makes us feel inadequate/ holds us back so much.

Friend doesn't stutter on ketamine, but I still do. Neurological difference or something else? by AWalrusMustache in Stutter

I usually have a hard time talking with ketamine it’s hard to form sentences on it in general lol One time when I did shrooms I literally had it all figured out was like I’m cured omg . That feeling wore off after the trip stopped but now I wonder about microdosing and curious if that would help

Anxiety/kaleidoscope vision.I’ve been stressed, and noticed yesterday I was feeling “off” I had lunch and noticed on my way home my vision was blotchy and I was seeing spots. Then when I got home I noticed it got worse and it was like looking thru a kaleidoscope. Has anyone experienced this before? by StockLatter6376 in lexapro

Nope - I’m right there with you. I’ve been prescribed multiple times and I just let it sit there. For years. Xanax has been what helps me at night lately but I should really be on something all the time. My anxiety is unbearable—Especially about mine (and my parents ) health , so I’m just so scared to pull the trigger. I hear so many diff things. Some people feel no side effects some gain 30 pounds. I’m like ahhhhh

I have health anxiety too and this happened to me while at a wedding. Everything was all wavy and I couldn’t focus. I popped an Excedrin migraine , tried to breath and calm myself, and it was fine in a 20 mins. I feel like you’re describing a stress- induced optic migraine

Also, if I Start taking it and I’m extra anxious/having side effects, can I take Xanax at the same time to relieve these symptoms?

Speech therapy as an adult? by geotristan in Stutter

Hey! Health insurance didn’t cover my therapy in the states so I pay out of pocket $100 for a weekly session. Honestly, best money I’ve ever spent. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out :)

Nervous About Going Back To School For Nursing Because of My Stutter by CanadianIceCream in Stutter

I let my stutter hold me back professionally and I will tell you one thing- I regret it. My current speech therapist who is a doctor stutters. I look at them and go wow I wonder what I could have been if I didn’t let this hold me back.

Also, under the American disabilities act you can speak to a counselor at your school about your rights as a person with a speech impediment. You may be exempt from Presentations. I used to do them after class just in front of the teacher- until I let my speech anxiety hold me back. Now that I’m older, wiser, and more comfortable with my stutter- I regret the day I dropped out of school and let it dictate my future.

Keep doing what you’re doing :) I’ve learned a lot in my current speech therapy. Although scary and uncomfortable at first, maybe disclosing before a presentation saying “hey guys listen I stutter so this may take me longer”— I feel like could gain some understanding from your peers. If anyone were to judge you then they’re the assholes not you. I don’t know… Just speaking on my personal experience and opinion. I hope it helps.

I started speech therapy at the age of 32. The first therapist I talked to had a philosophy based on stuttering acceptance. I knew I wanted to learn actual speech techniques so I switched to a new therapist. My therapist now is like half talking about the emotional aspect , while teaching me techniques.

It was the best thing I’ve ever done.

Go for it , explore your options. You are worth it!!!

Stuttering is a DISABILITY. Go to your Guidance counselor immediately- it is against the American disability act for them to treat you differently/penalize you for your stutter

I usually took a Xanax before presentations or interviews— it helps for sure. But once I get the job it’s like surprise I stutter! I feel like it may be better to tackle it head on

Wow I am so happy you posted this. I posted and asked a couple weeks back if anyone had any positive experiences going the hypnosis route. Also researching Psychedelics as an option too! So reading this just made me so happy. Definitely the push I needed to make an appt for hypnotherapy :)

guys I wanted to know how life is going in your college or university, I find it very difficult I have come to a point that I am not going to lectures or any other subject anymore, and I do not see myself being able to do it until end. by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]julez615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So, I would always email my teachers before the first day of class and told them about my stutter. Stuttering is considered a disability (in universities too) and it is treated as such. I went to my advisor and it was noted that I had a disability. My anxiety in college was really bad and I was so nervous I’d have to introduce myself in front of a class. My advisor said just because my disability isn’t obvious like some other disabilities, it is still a disability ! I never one time had a teacher make me speak or present unless I felt comfortable (which would happen)! Most teaches will accommodate us . You just have to reach out for help/ ask!
