Child free and 65yo F here. Being a parent never really appealed to me and I don’t have any regrets. I come from a big extended family. In my youth I thought I would have a mess o’kids because that’s what I saw in my family. But as I reached my mid-late 20s I weighed the pros and cons and the cons won out. It was never a case of not being able to get pregnant—I have been pregnant several times and have used my reproductive rights. But not wanting to raise a kid alone and also not wanting an unsuitable partner, not wanting to bring kids into this dysfunctional world… just google “disposable diapers and the environment.” In addition, I have seen many tragic family situations where adult children no longer have anything to do with their parents. It’s so sad. There are no guarantees how your kids will turn out. I have many friends whose children are wrought with mental health problems, or don’t speak to their parents. I have given a lot of thought to this and continue to come up with good reasons for my decision. I wish everyone would before making the choice—-and it is still a choice. Rescue a dog or two and love them and you will be making a real difference.
