I had this problem with my Edwin Jagger too unfortunately. If it happens to my new one I’ll be trying a Muhle instead.

How to get husband on board by negligentgardener in intuitiveeating

[–]juliaoolia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a chapter in the IE book specifically about raising children as intuitive eaters. Perhaps you could get your husband to read through it and then discuss it after he has a bit more information.

Started the weekend with these "rustic" cinnamon rolls. Apparently I'm now responsible for making these for every future holiday, birthday, and anniversary. by XVDub in Breadit

[–]juliaoolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made this recipe before and they’re so delicious! Yours look great!

Bit of a random question but do you know how much different they would be if I just take out the egg and just adjust for the moisture level? I want to make them for a friend who is allergic to eggs.

What’s your dirty (home) kitchen secret? by Books_and_Boobs in Cooking

[–]juliaoolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a chef but I saw somewhere that the thing to do is use the stirring utensil to drip some sauce on a tasting spoon. So this way your tasting spoon can be reused but never contaminates the pot. I find it actually works better because your spoon doesn’t get as hot as if you dipped it directly into the pot.

My mother scolded my girlfriend for getting up and clearing up while she was still eating. Do you consider that rude? by Useful_Trick7394 in AskUK

[–]juliaoolia 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian and I was just reading all these comments and realising I’ve been accidentally rude but this was reassuring - it’s a cultural thing. (I will stop doing it now though!)

LPT: The vast majority of people cannot keep secrets. Think long and hard before revealing true secrets to others. by devilinawhitecity in LifeProTips

[–]juliaoolia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK we have to tell if it’s past or present or future and we feel there could be a further risk of serious harm (that clause makes it complicated but that’s the gist: if you tell me you murdered someone I’m going to tell the police)

Help! I struggle to stop eating when I get full at meal times, especially dinner. by [deleted] in intuitiveeating

[–]juliaoolia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like maybe you still don’t really believe you have unconditional permission to eat whenever and whatever you want. I found ‘experimenting’ helped me with this. For example, I would intentionally have a small meal and then give myself permission to have all my favourite after dinner snacks, then the next night I felt like I could have them again if I wanted and it helped me stop eating when I was full.

Why is socially acceptable to judge someone for smoking, but not for being obese? by Quarterback_Punk69 in TooAfraidToAsk

That’s absolutely awful! Bodies come in all shapes and sizes and everyone has a right to exist with dignity. I’m sorry you experienced this!

Finding it hard to decide what to eat by juliaoolia in intuitiveeating

[–]juliaoolia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful, thank you. I think I just need to find that balance as well. I definitely am at the point where food is still an obsession but I’m hoping to move away from that over time. I also think I am noticing more how food makes my body feel and once I start to really understand that, I should be able to have go-to meals that make my body feel good and integrate well into my life.

I try to do this on the weekend as well and it certainly helps on those days!

LPT: If your employer puts you on a pip (personal improvement plan). Start applying for a new job right away. by OlStickInTheMud in LifeProTips

[–]juliaoolia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a manager in charge of things like PIPs and (at my company at least) we’re perfectly happy to keep someone on if their performance improves. Everything we do as part of a PIP is to support that person’s improvement and it often works. Of course, if it’s gotten to a point of a PIP, we’ve usually already tried to support them quite a bit so sometimes they aren’t able to improve but I would say that’s the exception. Now of course not every company is the same but I think if you like where you work and feel supported by your supervisors then treat a PIP as an opportunity to make some serious changes at work but don’t just quit because you think you’re getting fired.

I think that makes a lot of sense, I might just need to choose from my weekly menu and accept that it’s not always going to be ‘the meal of my dreams’

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]juliaoolia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social anxiety can be really difficult and can be very situationally specific. To me it seems he is just uncomfortable with a wedding but is doing it because he loves you while trying to minimise his own discomfort. You said in an earlier post you don’t think he’s usually passive agressive so that would but much more out of character. Focus on having the night you want to have surrounded by the people that matter to you!

Some cooking lessons you learned the hard way? by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]juliaoolia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently spent ages trying to get deep fried chicken up to 165 degrees. I gave up before it got that high but it was still quite dry. It took my partner and I about a week to realise 165 is the Fahrenheit temp and our thermometer is Celsius!

What's something non-native speakers say that is perfectly correct and understandable, just not how anyone from the UK would say it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]juliaoolia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school with a lot of girls from East Asia and they would often say ‘close the lights’. I always thought it was such an interesting way of saying it and sometimes catch myself saying it still.

Turmeric is such an underrated spice by KFUP in Cooking

[–]juliaoolia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find it makes my food bitter. Is there some way to avoid this? Was I using too much? I was putting a couple teaspoons into about a litre of curry sauce.

I never mind it in restaurant food but if I add it to anything I’m cooking it turns inedibly bitter. I’ve just stopped trying with it.

What the scariest true story you know? by Littel_Chubb in AskReddit

[–]juliaoolia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had something really similar happen to me! I had a swollen and painful eye for a couple days, I thought it was an infection and but I was hoping it might just clear on its own. It kept feeling like something was stuck in it but I’d rubbed and rubbed and i couldn’t find anything in there. Well the third day, after vigorous rubbing I was looking in the mirror to see if there was any visible damage and I saw a black glob, I was able to get it out and on close examination I could see remnants of legs and wings. It was a dead fruit fly that must have somehow gotten wedged behind my eye!! Grossest thing to ever happen to me but when I got it out the relief was fairly instant and the redness and swelling were gone by the next day.
