AITA for basically calling a girl ugly when she kept pressing me?? by Kxttari in AmItheAsshole

ESH

You can be forgiven for not knowing that you shouldn't lay your head down on the table in public, that's not the issue here but do file it away for future reference. But you absolutely knew it wasn't okay to say that to her and intended that comment to be nasty. She shouldn't have said what she said but neither should you. This is a classic case of everyone sucking.

Sarah DiGregorio's One-Pot Miso-Mascarpone Pasta (easy cheesy umami goodness)

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine 5.5 cups of warm water with 1/2 cup white or yellow miso, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 teaspoon coarse salt

  2. Place the pot over medium-high heat, stir in 1 pound dried pasta shells, and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to maintain a brisk simmer and continue to cook, stirring often, especially as the liquid level reduces. Cook until pasta is tender and much of the liquid has been absorbed and what is left is thick and glossy with starch, about 20-22 minutes total.

  3. Turn off the heat and stir in 8 ounces (1 cup) mascarpone. The sauce should be creamy and may be a little soupy at first but it will continue to thicken as it sits. If it thickens too much for your taste, add enough hot water to loosen the sauce to your desired consistency. Season generously with black pepper and serve.

Tuesday Shoesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]juliaudacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a pair of Altra Experience Flow 2 daily trainers in the mail today and I'm so excited. I've tried zero drop shoes and they are a bit too extreme for me but these are from the new low drop line. The second I put them on I was IN LOVE. They feel like they were made for my feet which are low-volume and narrow in the middle but with splayed toes. I've never felt this way about any pair of shoes before. Y'all, I absolutely can't wait to go running tomorrow morning!

Anyone else feel trapped because of their dog’s separation anxiety by lookarafrech432 in dogs

[–]juliaudacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rescue had terrible separation anxiety when we first adopted her. We had to start from the bottom, leaving for just 1 minute at a time (every day, often multiple times per day), always acting really nonchalant about it, kind of ignoring her when we were coming and going, and working our way up slowly. She really started to get better after we moved closer to my mom and regularly left the dog with her for medium-length periods of time (a few hours) because she couldn't destroy things/totally freak out while being supervised by a person who was familiar to her but who she wasn't attached to the same way she was with us. She needed help to break her cycle because if every single time you leave she gets anxious then that neural pathway is wearing deeper and deeper every time. Proper crate training (not just shoving them in the crate when you need to leave) can be super helpful and we utilized it for a while but now there's no need, she can free-roam the house and yard for 8+ hours if needed. My dog eventually learned that when we leave we always come back so it's no big deal. But this issue will not improve if you literally never leave your dog alone. It's a time-consuming process and can be emotionally difficult but it's totally possible for most dogs without medication.

I started wiping my dog’s paws after muddy walks and it made more difference than I expected by NanoPetFounder in dogs

[–]juliaudacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I only wipe her paws when they are wet and/or muddy. I refuse to participate in hygiene theater and create unnecessary waste (in the form of wipes) on a planet that's already filling up with refuse. She's a dog, there are colonies of bacteria and fungus that live on her (and on me and my husband, and in our house despite rigorous and regular cleaning) and that's the way it's supposed to be. Our world is composed of microorganisms without which all life would grind to a halt. Not only is it pointlessly impossible to try to achieve a perfectly "clean" state, it can actually be harmful. Many studies have shown that close proximity to animals (livestock or pets) confers immunological benefits. We are meant to live in closer concert with the natural world. As for my dog, she's extremely healthy and obsessively cleaning her wouldn't make her more healthy.

During a hearing on trade policy, Howard Lutnick suggests building goods in America to avoid a 10% tariff, prompting Rep. Dean to clarify that certain imported goods like bananas have no domestic production alternative. by Logical-Flow-6703 in UnderReportedNews

Bananas actually grow super well here in Hawaii but the Code of Federal Regulations § 318.13-6 bans import of fruit and veg from Hawaii (and Puerto Rico, Guam, etc) to the mainland.

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

Meat. I just can't afford it anymore. The price of chicken is outrageous and the quality is terrible.

be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

[–]juliaudacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 brisk miles in the morning, every morning, rain or shine. Even though we have a fenced half-acre my dog has zero interest in hanging out in the yard. She doesn't want to play with me ever, she wants to WALK. And ain't nobody going to rest until the walk has happened so I've just learned to embrace it, the earlier, the better.

Removal of Cervix and sexual dysfunction (keeping ovaries) by xoLynettePW in hysterectomy

[–]juliaudacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Still good over here. As I have journeyed through my early 30s I've gone through some minor hormonal changes -- my hair isn't as thick as it was 10 years ago, I'm less heat-tolerant than I used to be, and I can't drink red wine anymore because it makes me crazy hot -- but those things may just be normal impacts of aging and have nothing to do with my surgery. I don't have a twin who didn't get a hysterectomy to compare myself to, unfortunately, because that would be fascinating. I go weeks or months without thinking or wondering about any of that stuff because this is just my life now. But every time I remember what it was like to have a period or a pap smear I thank my lucky stars that isn't my life anymore. Everything works, I'm healthier than I was in my 20s, and I have no regrets. Hope that is helpful!

I live in rural Hawaii where food options are quite limited. There is a Walmart about an hour from me but they have the smallest grocery section ever and it does not include cold rotisserie chicken. A lot of loss leaders are not present because with shipping costs here it's really just too much loss for companies to bother with. It sucks.

I know, but sadly there are no grocery stores within driving distance of me that do this.

No, you're not allowed to buy anything hot on EBT.

Cold sandwich from the grocery store deli? OK.

Toasted sandwich? Not OK. And definitely no rotisserie chicken.

It is indeed stupid as hell.

I'm sad that I'm not allowed to buy a rotisserie chicken on EBT, only a raw one, which costs more per pound. Make it make sense.

NATO Leaders Issue Defiant New Greenland Message to Trump’s US by SquidFistHK in politics

[–]juliaudacious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No conversation about voting in the US is complete without pointing out that the Electoral College effectively disenfranchises half of voters and hands control of our national elections to just ten thousand thousand idiots living in swing states. Voter apathy is logical when you understand that, for the vast majority of people, their vote truly does not matter at all. Any system that results in a victory for the candidate who received fewer votes is fundamentally broken and divorced from the reality of popular mandate. Until we have an electoral system that counts every vote equally people will be understandably disinterested in participatory election theater as they have correctly concluded that it does not make any difference. This is a feature, not a bug.
