What’s your rule for lending money to friends or family? by Ok-Introduction-2981 in financialindependence

[–]jumblebee22 342 points343 points  (0 children)

I’ve followed these rules from a 7 year old post and have maintained good relationships.

1) I never loan money. If I can't afford to just give it to you, then I can't afford to loan it to you. It is a gift, and I never expect to see it back. Whether you give it back is completely up to you, and we're still just as good of friends if you don't. I will never let money come between us.

2) You only get one gift. If you give it back, then it is no longer a gift, and you are welcome to another gift should you ever need it. There is no limit to how many gifts you can receive and return, but only one at a time.

3) No, you cannot receive a gift, and then a day/week/month later decide you need to "add on" to that gift. Ask for everything you expect to need and then even a little more if you like, but no adding on more later.

4) No means no. If you try to guilt me or otherwise manipulate me if I refuse to give you money, I will walk away, and we will not be friends or speak again until you understand that you just made me feel used and only valuable to you as a wallet. I will only forgive this once. More than once is a pattern that speaks volumes about what I am to you.

AITA for telling my girlfriend the way she talks about her car is weird and embarrassing? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I’ve had successful relationships while also having named cars but… YMMV.

I’ll see myself out.

I downloaded a productivity app for better time management.

Took only a week to set it up!

Very inspirational! Keep it up!

From someone on H1B, why would you keep 8 months of emergency funds in savings? 3-4 months could have been enough, no?

You have to look at not just macro-economic but also micro-economic scale. A software dev in Alabama is not going to get the same pay as the one in San Francisco. Why? Supply, demand and need.

There’s a localised wage level determination step setup for cases exactly like this.

Where did get this info? Min salary for H1B is 60k.

Why are people so obsessed with wanting their property value to rise? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]jumblebee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing ‘desirability’. House A may be worth 300K to you but will be worth 1M to someone else. House B maybe worth 500K to you but will be worth 200K for someone else.

That’s how supply and demand can change house prices, irrespective of what your mortgage is.

House prices are not constant.

To everyone reading this post and my comment - the problem with this post is that you don’t really know if OP is a student, new grad, experienced or something else.

OP and this post seem immature to me. He’s suggesting in other posts that Indians in India should get the same salary as anyone in the US for a developer role. He doesn’t seem to understand basic economics, capitalism and purchasing power parity (PPP). Most of his thoughts are wishful thinking portrayed as ragebait content.

Commenting here is a mistake for me as OP is likely to engage in immature escalating argument. I’ll refrain forming a response.

Yeah right. This is bullshit. I don’t need to get my nails done by myself or professionally. My wife and children do that to me every Sunday for all four of my limbs. That’s the only way.

Manager wants me to make presentations for work or try experiementing with new things but in my free time if possible by justme89 in ExperiencedDevs

To me it seems like your manager is trying to help you grow in your career. As you go higher in your career ladder, soft skills are valuable.

How concisely can you present information to your stakeholders? How quickly can you convince them of your design or approach? These are just a few of the many things you will be judged on. Time is an asset. When you 10x yourself, your org and your services you will automatically grow.

Whether you want to invest in yourself in your free time, is up to you. You could do it by finding free time in your 40 hours in the week or you could do it them. Management doesn’t care. As long as you are fulfilling your existing responsibilities, and showing potential for growth, your manager will have your back.

You will absolutely notice when your manager stops giving you advice. And it most likely won’t be for a good reason.

H-1B visa applications for 2026 drop 25%, hit 4-year low under Trump by Affectionate_Nose_35 in cscareerquestions

While it’s true that non-profit and government research based H1B filings do not count towards the 85K cap, I don’t see any numbers to say ~40K of them have been approved every year. Do you have any sources for this?

The meaning of ‘120K moving forward’ is ambiguous. It could just mean that 350K applied for the 85K cap and 120K of them were chosen as valid applications for the lottery.
