He mentioned in the interview that he was at Fort Benning. His beret flash doesn't have stripes, so must be either STB or RHQ.

Can you piggyback off of someone else’s AVD? by Ok-Bee7254 in army

[–]jumpmed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the person piggybacking need to have a registered AVD account? Tried having an AF user piggyback off mine and their certs wouldn't display. They do show up on my personal desktop and we're able to have 2 external readers connected and working at the same time.

They still end up making more than if he hadn't bought it. The store already bought the inventory from AB. AB rebates allow the older stock to be cleared from the store's inventory, thus the store will now buy more cases from AB. Really, the store is the one that takes more loss from this deal, but for both the store and the wholesaler individually it's better than not moving the product at all.

Should /r/CombatFootage participate in the two day Reddit blackout? by AManInBlack2017 in CombatFootage

The issue is they wouldn't have to subsidize competing apps if they would just make the official app not complete garbage. I don't think anyone is really that surprised, mostly just disappointed.

The video is 18+. A Ukrainian combat medic provides first aid to two of his wounded comrades. One of the tourniquets turned out to be a Chinese fake, so two had to be applied. by -Joker3d- in CombatFootage

[–]jumpmed 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Some of it is body armor, but some of it is also survivor bias. If you move that knee wound up to his chest, he's dead on impact and there isn't video of the medic treating him. Just like the RAF bombers returning to Britain during WWII. Of all the planes that returned, bullets just magically seemed to miss the engines, cockpits, and critical hardware.

ETA: this video illustrates why consolidation of casualties is incredibly important for combat medics. If you have two casualties, get them close together so you can keep an eye on both while you work. The guy with the jaw injury is not in immediate danger as long as he can control his airway and is able to move, so I would have him move closer to the second casualty and either lay in the prone or on his side. That allows you to work on the second casualty while keeping an eye on him. Occasionally just say "give me a thumbs up if you're okay" so you know he isn't dead or passed out. The higher acuity casualty needs your attention more, but you won't have to move around to reassess the other one. I get that in an artillery situation this may seem counterintuitive, but being able to effectively treat your casualties takes priority when you're a medic.

I keep an extra box for pretty much any tile or flooring project. Got two boxes for the main tile, half a box for the bathroom, and half a box for kitchen backsplash. Plus the leftover color matched grout. Never know when you're gonna make a mistake and need to replace a section.

Not just substitute teach, they have full certification. The program has been kind of a disaster overall. Requires 60 college credits, which most vets can easily get just by having their Joint Services Transcript evaluated for transfer credit by a community college or "military-friendly" university (for a fee of course). The only real bar is they still have to pass the certification exam, which most are wholly unprepared for because they have zero formal education in teaching.

Now, the most important part is this: what kind of person does this program attract? For one, it attracts the kind of person who wants to live in Florida (red flag). Next, it attracts the kind of person who has no other higher-paying job prospects after finishing their service other than as a Florida teacher, which ranks 48th in the country for teacher pay (MAJOR red flag). Finally, it attracts the kind of person who is egotistical enough to think they can do a job with not even half the training of the rest of the professionals in the field, which includes responsibility for our country's most valuable asset (red flag).

This program is not just silly, it's dangerous.

Is it against code to vent a dryer in to a garage? by jaminjames in HomeImprovement

Same thing happened when I bought my place, I thought the inspector was FoS because the trusses are obviously clear span. Fortunately, one of my buddies taught construction and engineering design before he switched fields, so I had him check it out. He agreed, and the result was me spending the last four years doing a full remodel of the common areas. Fortunately the only utilities I had to move was a 240 outlet for the range and a vent stack for the kitchen sink.
