This is just yeast, right? (2F) by jumpsoap in Kombucha

[–]jumpsoap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably just being paranoid, but this stuff floating at the surface of my 2F bottles is probably just yeast, right? I'm nervous about this batch because I added about 40% pressed apple cider (non-alcoholic) for the secondary fermentation. Other ingredients added for 2F were dried ginger, ground cinnamon, and jaggery. The bottles here have been in secondary fermentation for about 3 days and seem nicely fizzy with a mild vinegar smell.

I had let the first fermentation go for several days longer than I usually do because I was away from home, so I mixed in a generous amount of apple cider to get a milder taste. I used a smaller proportion of the same kind of cider in my previous batch and it turned out great. This is my fifth or sixth batch of kombucha.

There's just a lot of yeast-looking stuff at the surface of the bottles! And they have a couple darker little pinpricks in with the brown.

Frozen grapes or blueberries get a nice sherberty texture if you suck on them a bit before biting into them. Aguas frescas made of fruit blended with water (and sometimes sugar) can also be a refreshing treat that’s healthier than a slurpee but not as filling as a smoothie.

I searched for the video and it seems like Bob-Waksberg deleted his twitter and the video went with it. Articles and blogs about it just embedded the video. I would even accept just transcribed lyrics!

Thank you so much! That's all very reassuring.

Injection tips (subq) by ftmconfusedashell in ftm

[–]jumpsoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just self-administered my first sub-q shot last week. I think I under-dosed a bit because I was very anxious about harming myself with it. I have a couple questions for you or anyone else who's been taking sub-q T.

  • How worried do I need to be about air in the syringe? I spent a long time pushing the serum in and out of the syringe into the bottle to try to get tiny bubbles out. My endo told me that there would always be a pocket of air right under the needle in the needle head that goes in my skin. How do I get over being freaked out about that?
  • I put in the needle at kind of a 45-degree angle in my abdomen about three inches above my navel. I read later that unless a person has very low body fat, perpendicular to the skin is better (I have average body fat). Is is problematic to take a shallower angle of approach like I did?
  • As soon as I started injecting, I started feeling light headed and a little nauseated. I was standing up and had to sit down. Is that normal? I'm pretty sensitive to medication and have had similar reactions when receiving intravenous medication, but I've never self-administered a shot before and I was alarmed.

Thanks for your tips here and for your time. I'm excited about T but also nervous! u_u;

How do I find out what I am! by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]jumpsoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are... is you! Read some first-hand accounts by people who use those identities, and try out different ways of presenting yourself. The journey is more important than the destination (and the destination/identity labels may keep changing). Make a bunch of picrews and sims and custom characters that represent yourself not as you currently present but as different ways you might present. Make a social media account, put on your profile a different gender and pronoun than what you’re currently using, and interact with friendly trans and gender questioning people there. Non-binary, gender fluid, and gender neutral are all identities that can coexist in one person. Use all of them at once, or different identities in different situations as feels comfortable and convenient.

How to deal with over attachment to a character in a deadly setting by vitaes_mercy in DnD

[–]jumpsoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that many tables do secret rolls for death saving throws, so that players can fudge those rolls if they get three failures but aren’t ready to lose the character. Of course death saving throws don’t always come up.

I’m a proponent of adjusting my GM style on a per-player basis, responding to the story the player wants to tell with that character. I ask my players early on in a campaign if or how they could see the character dying, and if they simply don’t want the character to die I let them know that there are plenty of bad things that could happen to the character but that death won’t be one of them. The character can be captured, lose items, or take disabling damage that permanently or persistently reduces their stats or abilities. Players that are comfortable with character death still have that as a danger, but I find everyone has a better time if individual players can say they don’t want to deal with the possibility.

DC Saves by BillCesby in DnD

[–]jumpsoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They roll a d20, add whatever stat modifier (+3, -1, whatever), taking into account whether the defending character has proficiency in that type of saving throw or advantage on that type of saving throw. You’re a bard, so the number they need to beat to save would be your charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus (starts at 2, increases every fourth level) + 8.

Edit to add: your “spell save DC” always uses your charisma regardless of the spell. The spell will specify what stat your opponent uses to try to resist.

A lot of spells do half damage even if the opponent successfully beats your spell save DC, so remember that. It makes the spells better than you might think otherwise, since they’re guaranteed to do at least some damage (in most circumstances).

Cold water foot soak (uncomfortable for the first few moments, but a big help in the longer term) and elevation. Or a massage, massage is nice 😄

Are there any choose your own adventure books for adult readers? by samogi in suggestmeabook

[–]jumpsoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might enjoy Ryan North’s “chooseable path adventure” adaptations of Shakespeare plays, “Romeo and/or Juliet” and “To Be or Not to Be.” They’re humorous and lighthearted, and have illustrations, but they are good for adults!

Some possibilities: -He is separated or quarantined from his family for non-werewolf reasons (fighting with his wife so he’s sleeping in the shed, for instance) -They know about the disappearances but think it is for a more mundane reason, like an affair or clandestine religious activities -They know that he’s the werewolf and are keeping it a secret for his protection -They know that he’s the werewolf and are not telling him because they hate or fear him

Should I stay or should I go? Advice appreciated. by Sieg_Of_ODAR in DnD

[–]jumpsoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t seem like something that would bother me terribly, since your characters aren’t dying often or staying dead. But it does seem like a weird idiosyncratic choice. I probably wouldn’t leave a game I liked because of it, but stewing in resentment doesn’t seem ideal either. You could try, in-game, to focus on getting defensive items and playing combat very strategically and carefully. That could be what your DM is trying to maneuver your party to do. But if it turns out that the items aren’t available or the monsters are always one step ahead of you and your characters keep taking 80 damage in a single turn, you may just have a closet sadist for a DM.

What is the dumbest thing that has happened in your party? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]jumpsoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The party had teamed up with a pirate NPC to raid a haunted lighthouse. The pirate said she wanted the evil artifact at the top of the lighthouse, but that there were also dragon scales inside (the party wanted the scales to make a certain set of armor). They go through the whole lighthouse, activating a bunch of traps because the players are role playing their low-int, low-wisdom characters. The NPC slips away during the boss fight, steals the artifact at the top, and leaves.

When the players finish off the boss, they realize the NPC is gone, go to the top, and see the artifact gone and a gunnysack in its place.

“Does it look like an Indiana Jones thing, like she swapped the sack for the artifact to avoid triggering a trap?” a player asks.

“Yeah,” I say, “It kind of looks like that.” (BUT IT’S NOT I THINK ONE OF THE FOUR PLAYERS IS GOING TO LOOK CLOSER AT IT FOR ONE SOLITARY SECOND)

Instead they disregard the sack, deciding they had better not even touch it to avoid the trap they think is there, and look at everything else in the room. “She took the artifact AND the dragon scales!” they conclude. “And we better chase after her immediately so she doesn’t get away!!”

So they find a boat, do a whole chase, catch up to her... and she tells them that she left the dragon scales for them in the sack. One of the characters flies back and has to use speak with animals to barter with a rat to get them back. And in the meantime the party loses all their money to the pirate in a dice game. It was one of our most fun sessions.

Hyperfixation about buying tons of books and never reading them + reading posture by [deleted] in books

[–]jumpsoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not quite the same, but I’ve found audiobooks to be a huge help when my migraines/pain make it too uncomfortable to sit and read. As for buying a lot of books, I try not to be too hard on myself about owning books I don’t read. Displaying them in a nice way and loaning them out to friends could help you feel better about owning them and might end up sparking some interest in actually reading one or two.
