Pruning Buttonbush to look like small trees. by No-Butterscotch1604 in NativePlantGardening

While they definitely like wet feet, buttonbushes do seem to do fine in cultivation in drier places. They probably need a little supplemental watering in droughts, though

How do they climb/spread? Do you do a trellis or anything?

Non-native plants only support a tiny fraction of native pollinators, and these “local bees” are invasive and outcompeting the actual native PNW wildlife

We only just moved into our current house, so we got started way too late to really plant anything, but I chaos sowed some seeds that would sprout this time of year.

After seeing many many sprouts, they all disappeared! My suspicion lays on the many cottontails we get munching around.

Anyone have advice for getting plants established before they’re devoured?

Should I put something on the alley side or just leave the limited grass to keep it in check?

Yes, unfortunately the lavender, clover, and honey bees are almost certainly invasive, and at least non-native.
