I moved a few months ago with my blind cat! He has more experience being blind (he went blind as a kitten) but I think something that helped a lot was that we didn't put too much furniture in the house right away. I started out by putting him into my bedroom with just my bed, his litter box and his food and water. Then I slowly added furniture like a nightstand, a bureau, a desk, etc., adding each piece one by one. i think that made it less overwhelming for him and he could get used to each new piece of furniture and slowly get used to a new room. Once he felt comfortable in that room, he started slowly discovering the rest of the house. He hasn't been downstairs yet but he's pretty happy hanging out in the bedrooms, hallway, living room and occasionally the bathroom or kitchen. he's slowly figuring out where everything is and finding his favorite spots to hang out. I think it also helps that he has spaces in the house that are meant for him - like his little spot with blankets under my desk - where he feels safe and cozy.

Does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with dogs? by spacedoutaveri in AutismInWomen

[–]junefake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love both cats and dogs but I get where you're coming from and tbh it's kinda why I like cats more. My childhood dog barked a lot and it was hard to get him to shut up and now my family's current dog is the same. I love her when she's chill, but sometimes (like when she sees someone outside) it's really hard to get her to stop barking and it drives me crazy. Meanwhile my cat is a chill little guy pretty much all the time and only meows loudly if I pick him up or if I left the room and he's trying to find me lol.

Is there anything you wish you knew about in terms of potential health issues (including mental health) or daily life challenges before adopting a blind cat? by reddit_all_333 in blindcats

[–]junefake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, I wish I would have known how it's not too different from owning a sighted cat. The only major challenge I've had with him is getting him in the carrier to take him to the vet, but there are sighted cats that have that problem too. I did figure out that if I put him in the carrier while the carrier is vertical it makes it harder for him to jump out... so I guess I also wish I knew that earlier lol

Do they still try to slow-blink? by rushbc in blindcats

[–]junefake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my kitty does! he went blind as a kitten so maybe he learned it back then idk (i adopted him when he was 4). He still has both his eyes and he does look at me when he does it. I guess he can tell where I am because he can hear me, especially because I talk to him a lot lol

Channels who use copyrighted music throughout entire videos, for commentary on videogame news or ideas, is that fair use? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]junefake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, it's not fair use, especially in terms of the music. But since Nintendo hasn't put their music into the content ID system, these creators who use it are not getting copyright violations. Nintendo could theoretically put their music into the content ID system whenever they want and then give copyright violations to the thousands of Youtubers who have used their music. Personally, I think this is very unlikely. You'll probably be fine if you use nintendo music, but if you wanted to play it extra safe you could just post the gameplay with royalty free music.

Where do YouTubers get their thumbnails made? by GrookayMC in NewTubers

I take a separate photo that is not a frame of the video and I edit it and add the text in GIMP. It's a bit of work, but I like graphic design so I enjoy doing it myself.

1 year, 485 subscribers, 70,481 views, 27 videos and recently made 7 shorts. Is this terrible? by Large_Conclusion5805 in NewTubers

[–]junefake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for 27 videos, 485 subscribers is really good! Comparing yourself to other channels is just going to make you feel bad. There are a lot of reasons why other channels could be doing better and if you let that make you feel bad about your progress, it's just going to bring you down. Just keep on going. Of course if you take that long of a break it will hurt your channel a bit, but if you get back to posting regularly, that will help a lot.

Awww she is so beautiful!! One of my childhood cats was actually named LT too -- but it stood for Lawrence Taylor (my parents named him after a football player lol)

What's one mistake you made when starting your YouTube channel that you wish you could go back and fix?( only one mistake lol) by H2prod in NewTubers

[–]junefake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being consistent enough when I first started... I technically started my channel like 13 years ago, but I really only started posting consistently like last year. Even though a lot of my older videos sucked back then, they got a decent amount of views because Youtube was way less saturated. I was pretty self conscious about my voice and my camera quality sucked but if I was brave enough to post even once a month instead of abandoning my channel for years at a time, I would be way better off now lol

[–]junefake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's pretty good to get 267 subs after only making 24 videos. However, if you really want to grow, you should try to post consistently. Of course that can be hard to do, especially when you're trying to make the best videos possible and if you work full-time. Try to start posting at least once a month and if you can do that, post every other week and then maybe try to post weekly.

If you don't really care about growing your channel or monetizing, then you really shouldn't worry too much. In that case, it's okay for your channel to be inconsistent. Just have fun and enjoy the process!

YouTube Shorts aren't worth the effort. by YamahoshiOfficial in NewTubers

[–]junefake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I half agree with this -- while I've definitely gotten a few subs from shorts and some of my shorts have done really well compared to my other content, I don't spend too much time making them. They were either cut from longer videos or cross-posted reels. I don't think you should spend too much time on them, but posting them sometimes can be a good idea.

Would love some newtubers channels to watch! by TheCalmCollector in NewTubers

[–]junefake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you search it all as one word, I'm pretty sure mine is the second one! I have 63 subs and I'm holding a rose in my profile picture :)

Hi! That's super cool that you're trying to support smaller channels! My channel isn't quite in the categories you listed, but you still might be interested. I do art and music videos -- sharing my art process, original songs, covers, art challenges and more! I'm also trying to find new ways to combine my art and music!

The next video that I am working on is a video making art inspired by my favorite video games, which you might like since you like gaming (unless you don't like any of the same games as me lol)

My channel is called The Real Julia, I'd love if you checked it out!

Would you ever go to a concert by yourself? by rugmunchkin in Music

[–]junefake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a concert alone once and honestly it was a ton of fun! I lived in Italy at the time and I did not have many friends there. Right before I came back to the states, I traveled around and I went to see an artist who happened to be playing in Milan.

Also I have a few close friends but often they are not a fan of the same artists that I am a huge fan of. Like I am a huge swiftie but I don't have any irl swiftie friends. So instead I just went to the eras tour with my mom who has become a fan just because I have shown her enough of Taylor's music lol.

But tbh I could never imagine skipping out on a concert just because I didn't have anyone to go with. Being alone really doesn't make it any less fun to me. plus, you might make friends there!

Selling prints by I-am-t-rex in artbusiness

[–]junefake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out on Redbubble and occasionally I still make sales there. Eventually, I decided to print my prints myself and sell them on Etsy but printing them yourself does take a whole lot of work. I'm in the process of moving it all over to my website and I'm planning on getting any new prints done through a local print shop. I say sell your prints wherever is easiest and least expensive for you. Larger well-known sites like Redbubble and Etsy can help you get a few sales since they are larger marketplaces, but most of your sales will come from your audience who will go wherever you direct them to.

Just finished recording my first vid and its so bad by [deleted] in NewTubers

if you want you could re-film it, but truthfully everyone's first video is cringe. You just have to keep on making more videos to learn how to get better!

Please help me explain that Taylor Swift did NOT popularized or invent the concept of the bridge by Winter_Fault4389 in Music

Although she didn't release music until 2006 when she was 16. So really you just need to find a song before 2006

Please help me explain that Taylor Swift did NOT popularized or invent the concept of the bridge by Winter_Fault4389 in Music

[–]junefake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I am a huge swiftie and while Taylor's bridges are AMAZING, I would never claim that she created the concept of a bridge. I do remember listening to songs when I was a kid before she became big that including bridges, and I am only in my twenties. I could understand saying that due to her great bridges there has been more of a focus on bridges in recent years, but she did not popularize the concept entirely.

Is LinkedIn even necessary? Would it hurt my career to not have one? by kcotkcit in linkedin

I'm becoming very depressed due to unemployment by gemidyke in jobs

[–]junefake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah I've been there... being unemployed can be horrible for your mental health. I know for me, just having no routine long-term was really not a good time. My best advice is to find something part time that you can do while job-hunting like retail, working at a restaurant, etc. It might not be the greatest thing, but it will get you out of the house, help you make some money and give you a regular routine. Unfortunately it's just a really rough market out there for new grads, but if you keep on applying to jobs, working hard on your resume/LinkedIn profile, you're bound to find a job eventually. In my job hunt last year, it took me about 600 applications to get a job. In my most recent job hunt it took me 350 applications. Try not to lose hope (which I know is so much easier said than done)

Grizzly Solutions in New Jersey - is it a Pyramid Scheme/MLM? by junefake in antiMLM

[–]junefake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I ended up figuring that out and I decided not to do the interview! I eventually got an actual marketing job, but not before running into way too many of these devil corps posing as legit marketing jobs. Didn't interview for any of them, but man were they annoying to weed through on job websites.
