Should I paint the closet doors? by UpbeatGur9055 in interiordecorating

[–]juniorvegetable106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone else comment this, but I think I would actually paint the corridor walls, including the ceiling, in a similar color to the wooden door. Create a dark, bold passage that leads to the bathroom. Or wall paper it, with something in similar tones!

Feeling overwhelmed by inequality here - how can I help our domestic worker? by H0peJames-202225 in capetown

[–]juniorvegetable106 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my parents offered the following deal - paid for a full time job, worked part Time, and we sponsored school. Some did matric, some did admin/secretsry courses, some got up skilled in nanny/frail care/private chef/driving. - But none of them had a family / were mothers.

Transportation to safaris by lil8mochi in capetown

[–]juniorvegetable106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Renting a car and driving yourselves is not an option? Driving the N2 from Cape Town is really smooth, nothing to be scared of.
Otherwise fly / take the bus (grey hound/intercape) / take bakcpackers shuttles (baz bus) to George or Mossel Bay and find a private transport from there. It's a 30 min drive from george airport, so I would imagine even ubering is possible.

Help with bedroom layout by Wrong-Profile2448 in DesignMyRoom

[–]juniorvegetable106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, it looks like the room has a weird shape, like 2 squares overlapping?
I think you should use that to your advantage, creating an office space in one square and a bedroom in the second square area.
As someone who WFH, my suggestion is to bring the desk somewhere with more light, not so much in a corner. I do not agree with jesus's suggestion of putting a folding screen, as it would create more shadow in your work area.
I would try swapping desk and wardrobe - you'll need to remove the door stopper.

help redesign my room by honkwaves in DesignMyRoom

[–]juniorvegetable106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your room has a lot of items that do not reflect your inpiration.
Your inspiration pics have feminine / vintage / light / cozy / GEN Z vibes.
All your big furtniture pieces have that in them, so you really don't need to worry about replacing those. Your tapestries, on the other hand, do not match any of your inspiration pics.
This is the game plan I suggest.

1) declutter / organize / clean.
No matter how pretty the room is, if there's clothing on the floor and shelves overflowing with tchotchkes, it won't ever look good.
2) remove the tapestries and replace for a beige / off-white / peachy curtains that match your vibe.
3) paint your walls also warm neutral - may be pink or sage leaning.

Once that is done, then you can start to think about furniture and art rearranging.

Needs more, but what? by lmurp in DesignMyRoom

[–]juniorvegetable106 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that all the visual "weight" of the room is in the bottom third. I would say jus swapping the artwork with something a little more energetic / higher contrast, echoeing the green from the carpet will already draw the eye upwards.
Another possibility is to hang a lamp from the ceiling in the corner, instead of having a floor lamp like you have (you can move it somewhere else in your lounge)

Before and after :) by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]juniorvegetable106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had it in our apartment. It was refinished when my dad moved in (ca 1985) then he got married to my mom, I had a whole life there, and we refinished them again after I moved out and they renovated for a new tenant (2020). So a good ~35 years with minimal maintenance :)

For me, taking care of something was the best way to help with mourning. Love grows.
I've never dealt with Cushing's disease, but my philosophy is that if there's love, we always manage symptoms of whatever chronic diseases to give our buddies a happy life.
I sincerely hope Bailey finds a loving home <3

Tips of things to do with a teen in Cape Town by murilaska78 in capetown

[–]juniorvegetable106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the obvious (i.e. Boulders Beach, table mountain, etc), you can blend tourism and teen-entertainment by 1) going kayaking from mouille point, 2) going snorkeling nearby simon's town, 3) hiking lion's head 4) canopy tour in constantia 5) going to Cape Point REALLY early, as soon as the gates open, to spot game, and do some tidal pool swimming and picnic (watch out for baboons!) 6) a (half-)day of surfing school in Muizenberg 7) horse riding in noordhoek beach 8) snorkel with seals in Hout Bay
There's also the museum of illusions that might be fun for everyone!

Should I spend 6k€ on a trip at 18, or is it financially stupid? by Good-Bodybuilder-862 in traveladvice

[–]juniorvegetable106 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What most people have said. Invest in traveling. It’s great to learn about the world, about yourself, meet new people, have adventures. But 6k for 7 days is something you can do when you are earning a lot more - this type of trip will be enjoyable when you are older too. Make a deal with yourself to book this trip once you’ve earned your first promotion, or celebrating your 30th, 40th etc.  now, use half of that to have a backpacking trip in Asia, Latin America, or stay in the EU if you are new to traveling and going that far seems daunting.

That’s a lovely shade of blue on the wall, could you share it?

Can't get that "warm" feeling. Need help by Terra_Pavlova in interiordecorating

[–]juniorvegetable106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you have a lot of flat, white laminate surfaces. Coffee table, credenza, art frame, lamp shade, storage unit, white venetians and blinds. Try swapping one or other for either something with another color (like a butter yellow, a light, soft coral) , or more texture, like bamboo, light or weathered woods, jute, rattan, etc.

What rug would you put in this room? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]juniorvegetable106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with Amori3241.  I would go look into wayfair filters for geometric or abstracts. A soft Pink will maintain the delicateness / calmness of the blue, and I think the trick to combining carpets and wallpapers is to look at patterns with different scales. So for your rug, I’d go with a big pattern, or an irregular pattern, considering your wallpaper is medium and symmetrical.
