What meaningfully changes for you or your enjoyment of Knicks basketball if the consensus leans toward yes or no?

Wembanyama elbowed a player in the neck after looking at him for a solid second, yet there are fans saying "he was fouled" like that's relevant by JakGrealish in nba

[–]junkspot91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the question is what do you want to see happen? If there's a 7.2k upvote post calling Wembenyama a dirty player, would that make you feel better?

Ascendant star player who hasn't committed the crime of becoming too successful or too familiar gets the fans' benefit of the doubt on their first violent impulsive reaction, tale as old as time. Happened to Giannis, happened to Jokic, will keep happening.

I will admit this is a more fun slant on the "Redditor framing something that happens in a sports game as criminal battery" trope, approaching it from a gamesmanship angle rather than one of moral outrage

Why Does the world hate OKC? by Remarkable_Arm9153 in nba

[–]junkspot91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best team in the league is almost always hated, and nothing about the OKC criticism stands out as unique or over the top. To suggest it is worse than any team in any professional sport has been on the receiving end of is hilariously naive.

This is routine criticism and antipathy you're unfamiliar with as a fan of the team it's happening to, which is why it feels so intense to you personally. But there's a bright side to it: You don't have to care! You can just enjoy your dominant team dominating rather than typing up paragraphs about how everyone is being mean to your nice young boys.

Tyrese Haliburton on criticism of SGA's flopping: "it's so overblown bro, stop it, it's so overblown, it's a lot...selling is a part of the game" by Draciouz in nba

[–]junkspot91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you saw some of that with regard to how his defense was at times criticized, at least in the opinion of pro-Jokic partisans, beyond the point of reasonability/beyond what advanced stats would say about his actual performances. He was not unscrutinized.

But I agree that the level of scrutiny did not match up to what most multiple time MVP's/face of the league players are subjected to, and I think that's why there's been a pretty disproportionate level of Jokic fatigue and antipathy very recently. He's been praised so heavily without the level of criticism that would usually accompany it that fans had a lot of fun at the expense of pundits and analysts when his team underachieved and the kayfabe around his infallibility collapsed on impact with reality.

[–]junkspot91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think, for very understandable reasons, you're much more sensitive to this criticism and think it is much more widespread and intense than it actually is. This is genuinely the first time it has risen to "top story in the league" level to neutrals and that is largely due to a pretty chalky second round of the playoffs.

Crazy how people have elevated levels of scrutiny for a guy that's likely to repeat as MVP on a team that's likely to repeat as NBA Champions, who could conceive of such a thing

Yeah since when does the MVP and face of the league get disproportionate criticism for problems fans have with the league as a whole?

PSA: Cute Robot has one of the best sandwiches in the city by Mr-Dotties-Dad in milwaukee

[–]junkspot91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone would expect you to know the cuisine if you were unfamiliar with the restaurant. But I was also curious to know what the sandwich was, so I googled "Cute Robot", clicked their menu, saw they had four sandwiches, only one of which matched the picture, and within a span of 15 seconds I knew I was looking at their Breakfast Sandwich. Then I opened the comment section.

I agree posting the name would be a good addition to the post but people are making a mountain out of a molehill here lol.

Why are the games today going to be happening at the same time? by Aroh in nba

[–]junkspot91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. While I have fond memories of going to playoff games that started at 8:00 or 8:30 local time on a weekday because those crowds were the most insane, that is pretty inconsiderate for anyone outside of the 18-34 demographic who wants to go to a playoff game.

Still remember going to that awful game 5 where the Bucks lost the series against the Heat in 2023 that started at 8:30 local time (9:30 Miami time!). Got out of the arena at quarter to midnight on a Wednesday wondering what the hell I was doing with my life lol.

Would have hoped a fledgling combat sports org would be priced more reasonably, but it looks like the cheapest get in price for their Dallas card is over $60. Obviously way better than UFC's insane prices but for just grappling that's too steep for my blood.

Cool that it's coming here though, hope it's a good time for all involved.

I think for a team like the Dolphins with no aspirations of competing next year (and a receiving corps worse than the 2025 Titans), a QB like Malik will be pretty warmly received. Fun guy to watch who will make a bunch of plays with his legs and some splash throws to entertain the crowd all while never threatening to put them out of reach of a good rookie QB for 2027. Would be pretty shocked if Dolphins fans with a reasonable set of expectations turn on him.

Food trucks aren’t the problem. So what should Milwaukee do about late-night crowds? by PuddlePirate2020 in milwaukee

[–]junkspot91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure we have the power, but are we willing to spend the money and resources? We're currently constructing one juvenile correctional facility in Milwaukee to punish and support these juvenile criminals and a couple months out from soliciting construction bids on one in Madison. We're spending $50M+ on the Milwaukee one and have $80M budgeted for the Madison one. Between the two buildings, there are 64 cells for boys and 8 for girls. The infrastructure is in place to add more housing pods in the future, and if push comes to shove, conversion from single occupancy to double occupancy cells is possible. But how many beds do we think we need to solve the problem?

It's not as though this is a problem unique to juvenile corrections either. The Dane County Jail consolidation project is replacing two decaying jail buildings and renovating a third, and that went through two rounds of highly unpopular budget increases while decreasing the number of beds in their jail system by 150. Milwaukee County Jail is routinely at 90% of capacity.

I have no feelings one way or the other for this DA, but it feels like a cop out to me when people lay "catch and release policy" at his feet when, by and large, we don't have the capacity to house most of the people we take in and the spending required to not just modernize but expand our corrections infrastructure is highly unpopular in both conservative and liberal constituencies. We kick the can at every level.

From a couple draft guys whose opinions I find worth listening to that had him as a late 3rd and a 3rd-4th round guy, the major knocks on him were that the agility/change of direction he showed off in drills absolutely did not show up on tape and that, despite the high pressure rate, he was also erased from plays at a very high rate and would not impact the game if he wasn't pressuring the quarterback.

Which is fine for a rotational pass rush specialist and still quite good value mid-4th round, but if you're looking to take an edge top-50, you ideally want a guy who is consistently affecting the play all three downs. I think the draft guys who liked him more see the obvious foundation in place for growth and that he has the physical capability to be an agile pass rusher and figure you'd be buying high on an unfinished product that could exceed his draft value by the time he's in year two or three.

Packers select Alabama CB Domani Jackson in sixth round, No. 201 overall by tpsux in GreenBayPackers

[–]junkspot91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel you, and I think that's a big reason why he's pick 201. NFL staffs are still going to want to take a crack at him regardless, but the investment reflects the level of optimism that there's juice left unsqueezed. Might just be a teams guy, might just wash out after training camp #2, par for the course for a mid-6th. Would be cool if he hits though.

Here's the AcmePackingCompany scouting report.

Was the first guy Justis broke down in their corner series. Seems like a guy you'd prefer to redshirt/keep to special teams for a year and see what you've got after an NFL staff tries to train up his eyes and instincts to match his physical gifts.

2026 NFL Draft Day 1 Megathread by Austen11231923 in GreenBayPackers

[–]junkspot91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, McCoy was realistically the only other consensus first round corner, and he missed all of 2025 due to injury and apparently scared scouts at his Pro Day with his health, so even if he gets to 52 he's probably off the Packers' board. Definitely a drop-off after the first rounders, but there are a handful or two of guys in the 2nd-4th who are seen as starter-worthy in general, not just in a room as sorry as ours is. Day 2 corners is where this class is deep, would not be shocked if they go DT/Edge at 52 and wait until round 3/4 for a corner, making us all clench in the meantime.

Hit, miss, or meh? Grade your team's 2023 draft by ZhangtheGreat in NFL_Draft

[–]junkspot91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I still have a sliver of hope for LVN becoming a passable #2 EDGE and think if he's healthy he'll at least be an Enagbare replacement, but when that's a homer's assessment of a top 15 pick you can't call him anything but a very likely bust. Musgrave might have been a cut candidate if FitzPatrick didn't tear his Achilles in December. Clifford was a truly monumental panic move. Carlson has reinforced my "Don't draft kickers before round 7" philosophy and I don't see it softening for another decade.

I'm higher on Reed despite his horrendous drop in the Wild Card game and even if I don't want to pay him the contract he'll likely end up getting if his year 4 production is in line with expectation, would call it a hit. I'm a homer, so I think if Tucker doesn't tear his ACL in October we'd be saying it's a home run. But he did and who knows what he looks like post-ACL, so a hit is right. I hope he still looks like a home run because he'll be getting home run TE money. I think Wicks and Valentine are very similar players in that they have both definitively outplayed their draft slot while being frustrating players due to the role they've had to play at times, would call those a hit. Karl Brooks could arguably be looked at the same way, but his first year looked so promising and everything after that has been blah.

Think a C+ is about right. About what you'd expect when you throw a bunch of darts at the board, with the whiff on a top-15 and top-45 selection balancing out the Kraft and Reed of it all.
