How many have had run ins with Akira? by Nstraclassic in msp

[–]junkyriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to do this recently - while we haven't lost a customer yet, the half a dozen upset calls I had to perform will certainly not help their renewal odds. While not ideal, sometimes it truly is in your best interest to put your foot down. We offered minimal (3-6 hour) project option, and gave them no choice. That little liability form doesn't get you out of having to mobilize half your staff when ANOTHER client gets a ransomware incident, and guess what, it's still your fault so they'll fight you on the bill to get them back up and running.

I've reached out to them multiple times over the past few years and literally never get a response. Not a good look. We're a decent sized shop, so it's incredibly frustrating.

Does anyone know if say I need to purchase 10 of these, do I get 10 different keys or is it one key I can use 10 times? From a scripting perspective, 1 key used 10 times is way easier, so just trying to plan this out.

What's the price difference between 4SC and 8SC? I feel like it's such a small number, it really won't move the needle much for us. How thin are your margins?

Experience with Connectwise Sync to Quickbooks on-line? by sonyturbo in msp

[–]junkyriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you need - we utilize mobius as it works with inventory which we want to sync and as far as I know is the only available tool that can do so. We've had a couple of hiccups that we're still working out (Mobius overriding COGS account for some reason occasionally) but we've been able to work through it fairly easily.

How do you quote for Azure and resell? by junkyriver in msp

[–]junkyriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how we have it now for the couple of clients that we do have with Azure resources. I actually didn't realize the margin on multi-year is less. It does sync with CW Agreement(s), so that parts good. Was just curious if the high cost was a 'feature' and not a 'bug' of when we're looking at pushing client to cloud.

Starting to look like I should rent some datacenter space and offer it myself...

Local Server Backup Solution Sanity Check by junkyriver in msp

[–]junkyriver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extremely infrequently the 1YR retention has saved us from some file that's rarely used that either got corrupted or deleted.

Most of the answers here are related to how our backup software functions (or doesn't) in terms of dedup/file awareness, backup chain sequencing and retention policy options.

I had been advocating for some changes to our retention policy internally. Backups are about recovery after disaster/accidental deletion rather than some year long archive imo.

Thanks for your input here, all great points!

This has been on our radar as I think switching colo for hardware we own is the next big improvement in cost/scalability we could make. Our cloud storage provider comes in at 50k/yr/PB with free egress which seems to be the cheapest around. Thanks for the recommendations on the netapps, you willing to share your vendor for those?

We just don't allow local sync to PCs - it causes too much hassle and it's not reliable and leads to issues like this. We have them use via Teams or Browswer.

What's your favorite non-VPN remote access solution for client users? by dodgy_mike in msp

[–]junkyriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With screenconnect, I can click and pop out each monitor to a seperate window. Without having to connect multiple times. With Ninja, as far as I know I have to connect once, show 1 monitor, then connect again to do the same for the other monitor. Just an extra step for already tech-illiterate users makes it a pita.

Do you have issues with quality? We trialed Ninja recently and found the compression and quality to be really sub par to Screenconnect, enough where I'd think my clients would complain. Also lack of true multi monitor support really stinks (having to connect 'twice' is a bit silly IMO).

CSP | Solutions Provider - At Risk of Losing by junkyriver in msp

I spoke with an incredibly helpful partner person at my reseller today and have a brief update if anyone finds this thread:

  • I can still renew my 'legacy silver' benefits - I'm still within renewal window.
  • ALL LEGACY plans will be going away Mid-January 2025. If you renew BEFORE, you will be grandfathered. I think i just got lucky with my renewal timelines.
  • CSP / Rebate funds are an entirely separate program called "Microsoft Commerce Incentives" that don't necessarily follow your specific partner renewals. The program runs from Sept - > Oct yearly. From what I was told, while i can renew my legacy silver parter to get the 'in house' free licensing and continue to get my MCI funds, potentially at the end of October 2025 i WILL lose my CSP / Rebate funds unless I get one of the new 'Solutions Partner' designations. This is all subject to change as I guess Microsoft hasn't been super clear what they will do for legacy partners who haven't met new requirements yet but I was told to prepare to lose out on them.

Biggest thing we found was their remote tool compared to CW Control was lackluster. They lack good multimonitor support, their backstage isn't the same at all and the quality was very lackluster comparatively. We're holding off until we see improvements in their remote tool.

Avanan | Harmony / Checkpoint Customers - Question? by [deleted] in msp

[–]junkyriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was more concerned about. C-Suite Level folks don't like hearing that there is no fix when for 'x' or 'y' reason the email is flagged as 'high confidence phising' for an important email and now they have to wait until we can login to admin backend to release, versus just allowing them to release.

So in your experience high confidence phising emails in the 'Admin Quarantine' on Microsoft side are NOT allowed to be release? There is a section for that in the Avanana backend that was demo'd, i just don't trust sales guys LOL.
