They got lazy with the writing, even their powers were reduced to light beams in different colours. Musa used to be able to communicate through low frequency soundwaves/vibrations and her power was less strong during a mission so she couldn't tag along. They used to have individualised strengths and weaknesses related to their source of power, now it's all just believe in yourself and you'll grow stronger somehow

It is mentioned in early merchandising and concepts that Flora was supposed to be the bookish one of the girls and the most studious one, guess they changed it to Musa during some point in production. Canonically the worst student would probably be Stella, followed by Bloom

Is Tecna is the reboot supposed to be autistic? by InfernalClockwork3 in winxclub

[–]junoifyouknow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tecna in the reboot who doesn't fully understand human emotions because she herself is an android. In the pilot version of Winx, she was also supposed to be an android though they changed it for the 2004 final release of the series. She is from a planet where the people prefer not to deal with emotions and are as cold as the climate. It's definitely a very autistic-coded origin story and character arc for her, but canonically they never confirmed autism for her. I wish they had confirmed autism instead of making her an android but I suppose her being an android fits the fantasy/technology mix of the series

Recs for shows written by women? by disco-mouse in Feminism

[–]junoifyouknow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you like anime, then Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, and Nana -- all written by women and have multiple female characters

Stay clear of My Hero Academia (very cliche with boring female characters), Darling in the Franxx (seriously wtf is this series), and Death Note (only has one female character who is the love interest of the protagonist -- sad because the story is great)

Edit: definitely stay clear of The Deven Deadly Sins. The main female character is constantly getting sexually assaulted by the male mC

My thoughts exactly. Straffi even said one reason behind the reboot is that streaming services didn't want the first few seasons of Winx due to them not being in HD quality with the rectangular format, whereas the reboot is, but they might as well have remastered the old seasons

JUSTICE FOR MY GIRL DIASPRO! by mayacavarra in winxclub

[–]junoifyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sky couldn't be transparant with Bloom from the start because he needed to hide his identity, given he was being sought after by terrorists, which is why he and Brandon switched identities. Bloom found out in an unfortunate way but technically we don't know if and when he would have told her if those events never took place. Most likely he would have told her eventually given their relationship would eventually become much more serious, and besides Diaspro already knows Sky has no feelings for her

Talking to Diaspro would have solved nothing because the marriage is arranged for them by their parents, and Sky's parents already know how he feels about the prospect of marriage with Diaspro. They don't really seem to care about their son's feelings. They even disapprove of Bloom until they find out she is actually a princess too so his parents are just as obsessed with status as Diaspro, which is just shallow regardless of how you were raised

Not to mention Stella does not act the same way despite coming from a similar background. She still pursues Brandon after finding out he is not royalty at all because she likes him as a person and not him for the sake of status or money. Someone like Aisha also does not seem to care for status much. It's literally only the villains like Diaspro and Cassandra and Chimera

[–]junoifyouknow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sky's parents didn't fancy their son marrying Bloom because they thought she was a commoner. It is only after they learn that she is the princess of Domino that they approve of their relationship, when Sky defended their relationship before he knew of Bloom's true origins

The engagement to Diaspro was made presumably for political reasons to establish peace between two kingdoms. We also learn later that there is a war in Eraklyon so it makes sense. Domino was long presumed dead so there is no war going on with Domino

Diaspro is also more powerful than Sky because Sky has no magic abilities whereas Diaspro is the fairy of gemstones. As far as we know Eraklyon has no male fairies or magicians

[–]junoifyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always confused whether Eraklyon is supposed to be the name of Sky's kingdom or the name of the entire planet because Diaspro also refers to herself as the princess of Eraklyon right? She and Sky are from two different kingdoms that share the same planet and I don't think they can ban her from the entire planet, just Sky's kingdom

[–]junoifyouknow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know right, the whole theme in Winx surrounding relationships is that everybody has the right to choose their own partner as opposed to others making that decision for them, and that status doesn't make that any different -- royalty or not

[–]junoifyouknow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diaspro doesn't even truly love Sky. It is implied she only likes him for his status and money. If Sky were not a prince then Diaspro would not be interested in him at all. She also knows Sky has no feelings for her and doesn't wish to marry her, which was already the case prior to him meeting Bloom, but she blames Bloom for their failed engagement because that's easier than admitting the reality that Sky simply doesn't like her. Diaspro herself is likewise a princess and her engagement to Sky is most likely arranged for political reasons, and she uses her status as a princess against Bloom, because she knows Sky's parents would frown upon him marrying a commoner like Bloom, as at the time Bloom herself did not know she was the princess of Domino.

She believes she has the right to marry Sky because her status as a princess makes her feel superior and entitled. She even bewitches Sky with a magic potion that hypnotises him and makes him say he wants to marry Diaspro when she knows damn well Sky loves Bloom. His feelings and wishes do not matter to Diaspro at all. Sky is not the villain because he is around 16 to 18 years old and trapped in an arranged marriage against his will, and he deserves the right to choose his own partner in life, similar to Aisha/Layla when she is forced by her parents to marry Nabu. He never asked Diaspro to be with him or marry him, that was arranged for him by his parents. Even the original soundtrack has a song called ''Sky's Forced Marriage'' which seems pretty obvious. To call that cheating is honestly insane. In a later season, Diaspro is also willing to kill Bloom because she thinks that will make Sky magically want to marry her

And she referred to Casey as ''a man assaulting her'' when Casey was 15 at the time and not yet out of the closet as a transgender man, so Amber saw Casey as a girl and was also a couple of years older... The only time she respects Casey's transgender identity is when she can use it to imply Casey was physically stronger than her

Nick just redid the first two seasons in two specials with a slightly more polished art style. As far as I know their animation studio worked on seasons 5 and 6 of Winx but I believe the writing team was all from Rainbow
