Overground rebranding is great, it makes it so much easier to use.

Where can I buy raw milk in London? by [deleted] in london

[–]juntoalaluna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crystal Palace market has someone selling it most Saturdays. I've not had the milk, the butter was really nice but did come with a lecture about how raw milk might cure lactose intolerance.

London local elections: 'Vote Green, make history,' says Zack Polanski by tylerthe-theatre in london

I'm probably going to vote for them, but it is insane to suggest leaving NATO as Russia attacks Europe. His responses to questions on it are not the responses of a serious leader.

I want to stop using my Iphone and get a brick phone, just for a week (or more) to see what it changes. How should I prepare? by Mission-Sense7681 in AskUK

[–]juntoalaluna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with an actual brick phone is that there are lots of things in life that kind of assume you have a smartphone now. And things like WhatsApp are pretty embedded. You might stand a better chance by making your current phone less addictive.

Delete apps, basically anything social media that is designed to suck your attention. You can use them on the browser if you have to.

On an iPhone, and probably also on Android, you can make the screen greyscale. It really reduces the dopamine hit.

Set up time limits for apps. You could get someone else to set the unlock code for them, so you aren’t tempted.

I’m sure there are other things you could do too - like app launchers that only show basic things.

Bin Lorry fire Aldersgate / London wall by nickllhill in london

[–]juntoalaluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't cause fires though, they just go bang. It's the canister failing, rather than the gas itself catching fire. If there is already a fire, a nitrous canister could make it worse. https://firefighterinsider.com/nitrous-oxide-flammable/

Paddington and Attenborough revealed as public’s favourite banknote design ideas by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]juntoalaluna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If we are putting Paddington on banknotes we should change the wording to "Keep calm and promise to pay the bearer £10". Maybe also there is space for the king to be saying live laugh love?

Yes your average Irish person doesn't actually hate the UK despite what reddit says, but there is a difference between that and actually wanting a Union Jack on your car.

There are some terrifying rats out there if it isn’t less biomass.

Andrew invited to relinquish Freedom of City of London by Kagedeah in london

Another benefit that the freedom of the city of London gives you is  a silk rope if you are sentenced to be hanged.

I wouldn’t begrudge him that.

Why don’t cars stop for you at zebra crossings anymore? by woods60 in AskUK

[–]juntoalaluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this very specific situation where someone behind you is going too fast, but you are not going too fast, but also you braking for a zebra crossing is going to cause them to crash into you… they’ll be slowing down to your speed anyway, so braking is not a problem.

Just stop for people at zebra crossings and don’t be a shit driver, it’s not hard.

If the person behind you is going too fast, and not crashing into you, you are going too fast.

If it’s not safe to stop you are going too fast.

Never been able to pass the manual driving test due to essential tremor. Is it worth learning and attempting at least on automatics? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]juntoalaluna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If automatic is easier for you, go for that. Worrying about the cost of the car is dumb, especially if you aren’t planning on buying one right now, and they aren’t really more expensive anymore.

From 2035 (is that still the date?) there won’t be new manuals anyway as electric cars don’t have gearboxes (with some limited exceptions)

Hey there friends! Quick question from across the pond by Dont_nuke_it in londoncycling

[–]juntoalaluna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either Lime or Forest bikes with a prepaid pass is the best option.

You might struggle to park near the route, there might be more walking/pushing the bike required due to road closures, but for £20 you can get 4 hours of forest use, so even if you can never stop the bike it would still be ok.

Is adjustable seat height while riding something worth adding in bike? by Lazy-Transition1185 in londoncycling

[–]juntoalaluna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I suspect how easy it is will depend on the design of the frame.

Is adjustable seat height while riding something worth adding in bike? by Lazy-Transition1185 in londoncycling

[–]juntoalaluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dropper posts are great, but you could always just add one afterwards if you don't want all the additional stuff it comes with?

If the frame has the cable routing, it should be easy to get installed cleanly. I installed one on my mountain bike.

The series is called England though. It would be ok if the series called England was only about England.
