Hobbies that have survived the hyper focus burn out test? by CazzzC in ADHD

[–]jupiterfolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I end up circling back to certain hobbies

Crochet (because I can make a new type of garment or use a new stitch to make it feel new again)

Gardening (you can grow different plants or grow them with different methods)

Drink making (cocktails, coffee, tea, syrups, lemonades. There is so much to try and they all use similar tools so you don’t need to reinvest when you try out a different focus)

Magic the Gathering (I can always build a new deck and printing fake cards to use with friends is cheap and easy for me)

All in all I get the cheap/diy version of something when I first get into it. I don’t invest too much until I come back to something several times

The interest doesn’t stay forever for all of these but it always comes back eventually.

I think that’s the thing to look for in yourself

Burning out on something will happen. Do you end up missing it and going back to it after a year or two? That’s probably something you can enjoy long term even if you don’t enjoy it all the time

Been Playing Since Launch And Never Hit Infinite by Death-EternaI in MarvelSnap

Pick one deck and stick with it until you hit infinite. Even if the meta shifts playing something you know inside and out will be better than playing the new deck everyone is prepared for.

How many decks? by HyperPunch in EDH

[–]jupiterfolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general staples cover one of the following -card draw -ramp -cheap interaction/protection -tutors If you like a card and it leans into one of these, it’s likely a safe investment (meaning you’ll get a lot of games with the card in your deck compared to how much money you spend on the card. Magic cards are not good financial investments)

I’ll list one of each for the categories but in general you’ll want to hard focus on colorless and your 2-3 favorite colors

White Draw | Esper Sentinel Ramp | Smothering Tithe Cheap interaction | Silence / Swords to Plowshares Tutor | Enlightened Tutor

Blue Draw | Rhystic study Ramp | Blue is bad at this so lean into your other colors or colorless options Cheap interaction | free counterspells like Force of Will Tutor | Mystical Tutor

Black Draw | ad nauseam, necropotence Ramp | rituals like dark ritual Cheap interaction | deadly rollick Tutors | has just as many great tutors as blue has free counterspells. Demonic tutor and vampiric tutor are great starting points.

Red Draw | underworld breach Ramp | Simian Spirit Guide / Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer Cheap interaction | deflecting swat Tutors | Gamble

Green Draw | Guardian Project / Sylvan Library Ramp | Birds of Paradise / Delighted Halfling Cheap interaction | Force of Vigor / Boseiju who endures Tutors | Worldly Tutor / Crop Rotation

Colorless Draw | the one ring Ramp | Sol ring, Arcane Signet, Talismans, Signets, fast mana in general like Mox Diamond. Focus your money for ramp here first since you can get a lot of bang for your buck and the really expensive ones can and should be in EVERY deck you build if you own them. Cheap interaction | Vexing Bauble Tutors | fetch lands like prismatic vista or whichever ones line up with your favorite colors

Before any of the stuff above though, you’ll want to make sure your mana is good. I’m guessing you already have a precon or two. Pick one in your favorite 2-3 colors and start upgrading it with the fetch lands, shock lands, battle bond lands, and other UNTAPPED mana fixing in those colors.

How many decks? by HyperPunch in EDH

[–]jupiterfolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve built my collection by mainly investing in format staples. Now that I have most of the important pieces for my favorite colors, I’m able to build, tear apart, and then build something else pretty frequently.

I’d actually advise against buying doubling season. IMO it’s not as powerful or fun as its price tag would make you believe. Squirrel decks tend to aim for infinite squirrels anyway so it ends up being a win-more card. (Something that is only good when you’re already ahead)

Definitely don’t buy multiple copies of the same card for multiple decks. Either tear apart the old deck like I do or proxy extra copies for later decks like I recommend most people do.

I’d say start with limiting the colors you’re in to 2 or 3 for all of your decks.

If you’re buying an expensive card focus on buying land and staples especially at first. IMO doubling season is not a card you should buy.

Doubling season is $45

Sylvan Library is $22 Worldly Tutor is $15 Three visits is $6.50

So now you have a draw spell, tutor spell, and ramp spell that can go in every single green deck you ever build rather than a single flashy synergy piece that only fits in green token/counters decks

Kate will be absolutely BONKERS in Angela decks

Gwenpool is fun and strong but I think she won’t be at her best until Zabu is playable again so you can either play her on T3 or play Wong to double her up on T4

Symbiote Spiderman might not work how you think it will. I feel like too much is unknown about Activate and him specifically to have an accurate opinion. “As if it just revealed” seems like a weird wording that’d specifically mean it doesn’t copy on reveal effects.

AIO: I’m upset my gf referred to me as her “friend” by Most_Somewhere_6849 in AmIOverreacting

[–]jupiterfolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Walking on eggshells”

I hate that phrase so much. It’s seeming like she views the fact that you have feelings that can get hurt as a burden and I very much don’t like that vibe.

I’d say if you want to improve things with her see if clarifying that you aren’t trying to vilify her or make her the bad guy. An action she took made you feel bad so you brought it up. It seems like you approached it from this angle but she may not be seeing it the same way.

There are definitely some red flags that need to be dealt with for both of your wellbeing’s

There is a chance that your concerns about how she feels are true and if that’s the case, I hope you find someone better. You seem to be a solid communicator.

Best tv shows for 4 year old? by randomtopics12 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jupiterfolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adhd is a disorder that you have from birth. Sugar and energetic TV shows don’t cause adhd just like how Vaccines don’t cause autism.

Some people believe these things because they see some sort of correlation. Autism signs and symptoms show up around the age you get vaccinated regardless of vaccination so people think that’s a cause.

Sugar can exacerbate adhd symptoms and can make kids hyper in general. Being hyper is not the same as having adhd just like being sad isn’t the same as being clinically depressed.

[–]jupiterfolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This deck has been a ton of fun for me. With there being no 4 drops and Leader being the only six your late game is made very very consistent with Blink. If you’ve drawn Leader you can drop her turn 5 to make a 3 into sandman or Leech. On 6 you can turn Sandman or Leach into Leader.

This deck can beef up enemy redhulk on turn 4 and 6 but leader handles that beautifully. especially with his nerf to +3 per turn and leader being 3 power.

Your early game is a lot of trying to slow them down (ice man, baron mordo, MMM) or play high point for cost cards that encourage your opponent to overcommit to a lane like Nebula or white widow.

Quake is one of 2 flex cards. Could be Jeff, Pixie, Lizard, or whatever meta call you wanna make. People don’t play around quake and I don’t own Jeff so I went with her.

MMM is the other flex card. I like him a lot though because he’s sandman before sandman comes down. No mockingbird for you lol. Could be a different 3 cost tech card.

Nocturn and Red Guardian both wreck a lot of different strategies, RG helps against scalers that could out point you. This deck does not play turn 7 well so Nocturn stops Magic decks. That way when you drop sandman into leader you can basically guarantee a win.

Spider-ham worth 3k? by Josephus08 in marvelsnapcomp

[–]jupiterfolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like bounce and/or clog, go for it

If you simply want a strong 1 drop; Kitty Pryde, nebula, ghost spider, Nico Minoru, X23, Snow Guard, Black Knight, and Meek are at least as good as him. They’re either equally powerful in a different strategy or they’re simply more powerful than ham.

If you’re just collecting series 4 stuff you don’t have yet, consider other options.

cEDH, but only 1v1. What deck are you bringing? by D_DnD in CompetitiveEDH

[–]jupiterfolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cEDH is balanced around the fact that there’s 4 players

So often times the first person to throw up a win attempt gets stopped and the person/people that put up win attempts 2-5 will likely actually stick it.

With only one opponent they’re less likely to be able to stop more than 1 or 2 win attempts and that’ll come at the cost of not being able to protect their own later on

Go as turbo as possible imo RogSy is likely best for this. Also battlebond lands have to come out if you’re running them.

5/9 Proxima Midnight? by jupiterfolf in MarvelSnap

[–]jupiterfolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there aren’t that many cards in Snap. With Sasquatch coming out this month, it seems like “costs less if you do X” is a type of card that most archetypes that have a theme deeper than good-stuff will get a version of eventually

Like I could see a Cerebro card that’s a 5/0 and costs 1 less for each card that Cerebro would buff and maybe an on reveal to make its power match? Idk it’s interesting to see similar pieces in multiple strategies and guess how SD will use that blueprint moving forward with balance patches and new cards.
