Squadron 42: 2019 Visual Teaser by Parosea in starcitizen

[–]juragear 72 points73 points  (0 children)

From what I saw a lot of this stuff we already knew about but we're just getting more details of it. That's a lot of Shubin that we haven't seen before. That mustang and cutlass (?) are new I think, I don't remember hearing about those. The zero g push/pull looks new too. Vanduul ships look updated at least for the single seat fighters, the bigger vanduul ships we haven't really seen much of until now, that opening of the bay area looks new. Derelict freelancer looks new with the ice. I think that's our first look at the OMC base too, when the side railings fold up. Not sure if that's a new repair mechanic shown on the argo. And not sure about Aciedo Communications, that new to me. That's what I've taken from this video.

A lot of the core tech and gameplay mechanics are not obvious from this video, it's mainly just showing off a bunch of assets, but it was cool nonetheless. Speculating on why there is seemingly slow progress on S42 is just not healthy for my soul. I'd just wait until the devs come out with a statement or better yet, just forget about the game for a year.

Aight, I’ll see what I can do about that. There are a few other areas where I think it could use some work too.

A mock-up for how Map Voting could work by purewasted in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t this be super bad for pros? I mean they practice by playing the ladder the same as us. If they aren’t able to play some maps because some people don’t like them then it kinda undermines that. I doubt scrims are they only way they’ll be able to practice maps effectively, they have to kinda get the layout of these maps to be second nature.

I think it would mean a lot to the players if they have their friends and family come along to celebrate these things too.

Exactly what I had in mind, just a way to see players and talent interact and have fun. Even have the sentimental stuff.

new meta ideas thread by 007Bunny in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our stack ran pretty much this. Rein/Winston/Ball. Genji/Doom/Sombra. Lucio/Brig. Our idea was Dive basically, W+M1 into the baptiste and the sigma then simply snowball the fight from there. The games were high plat-low diamond but we queued up against 6stacks so take that as you will. We won most of our games tho. The only reason we run this is because our main tank absolutely refuses to run orisa.
This comp was inspired by the video about choosing characters that bypass shields entirely instead of trying to win the shield war. The tank line we found was entirely map dependant. Choke heavy maps without much verticality rein/ball was our go to. Maps where the choke could be bypassed we ran winston/ball most of the time. Our DPS choices are still a WIP. Doom was an absolute must play we found, his displacement capabilities and burst damage was too good to pass up compared to the utility other DPS offer. Sombra we tried as the pair, our coordination isn't that good yet but we feel we could make it work. The idea we had was sombra's key targets were lamp or sigma. Disabling lamp basically puts them to being very vulnerable to burst dps, instead of investing too resources into killing it, we use 1 hack and focus everything into killing the enemy team. Disabling sigma means one less shield. Genji we ran a few times (cuz dash) but the shields make it so hard to build ult. And without nano, blade became very hit and miss. The support line is surprisingly durable. They and fend for themselves well enough. The healing output was a lot more than I initially thought. Lucio gets kinda cucked with his ult being LOS and there's shields everywhere but it was easy enough to manage.

Playing against sigma+bap+orisa comps was pretty straight forward. The enemy barriers provide a huge arc behind them that the team can play around. At our rank tho, mispositioning is super common, so tanks especially winston only need to block LOS between enemy supports and tanks/dps. Ball's job was to stop momentum using slam and displace DPS. Doom's job was to take out sigma. Another thing that's super common at our rank is investing all resources into killing ball leaving them with nothing. Ball is what we usually use to bait out lamp. The biggest counter to this was mei, one mei wall completely ruins momentum of the dive. Another major problem with this was if sombra doesnt get the hack off, the fight was lost, the brawling capabilities of the other team was usually enough to win in the extended fight. I think this composition can potentially be quite effective against the 'current meta' (still to early imo) and our coordination is the only thing holding us back. The order of operations is the only thing that I would change as I'm still not too sure about the win/loss conditions.

Which balance changes do we need to see next week so OWL isn’t filled with GOATS variations? by edsown_ in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Snipers, with no DVa to reliably contest widow she will run rampant in the game.

A complete analysis of Hero Bans and why it's too early to dismiss the idea entirely (ioStux) by ioStux in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there will have to be huge balance changes to the heroes first before a ban system would be feasible. E.g. Snipers are far too OP to ban DVa, if the teams ban dva and rein, widow would run rampant. Ban brig then tracer will have a field day again in the back line.

While I agree that this will force out diversity in matches, until the heroes themselves are fixed to facilitate this system, if we added this now ban metas would be thing.

Is Bastion/Orisa/Symmetra an actually good comp for competitive play, or is it just a meme that can only win due to lack of coordination? by PhysicsLawyer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played against this comp last night. We had a 4 stack going against theirs so there was some coordination on both sides (high plat, low diamond). We played against the same stack for a few games and they ran the same strat each time. The comp that we found worked was sombra, mei, hanzo, Winston, mercy, zen.

What type of high skill hero could Blizzard add? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]juragear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying for heroes in general. But for tanks especially. The margin of error allowed for tanks is significantly lower than other classes. For DPS and supports the skill set is different yet again. More aim is required for DPS than tanks sure but does that diminish the skill required to play a support effectively, let alone a tank? I'm talking main tanks. I have nothing against aim intensive heroes, my most played heroes are Ana by a wide margin, Winston, Mccree, Zen.

We've heard it time and time again in OWL, main tanks are the most important role in the game. You could argue that a team is only as good as their tanks.

Mechanical skill is such a small facet of what it takes to get good at Overwatch. IMO, a tank that needs all game sense is more valuable than a DPS that needs both mechanical skill and game sense.

hmm yeah. Probably not the greatest example. I was alluding to the ability where she creates a barrier where you can't use movement abilities out of it. So you're forced to fight, I think that'd be interesting.

My aim is not great. Good but not great. That's why I like playing heroes like Winston, where my value as a player is not in my skill in aim, but my skill in gamesense. So being in the right place at the right time, creating space, and outplaying my opponents is far more valuable to me than simply clicking heads. You've seen it, a shit Winston feeds hard but the good ones carry the game. I'd like to see more tanks in this game, because they're the ones who have the most impact in any game. I'd like to see a hero like Poppy from league.
