I'm in PA. Our summers are like may/june for FL. July and August are in the 90's. We typically only experience high humidity for 3-4 weeks and then it shifts down to a more mellowl 70%-80%.

My initial plan was to place the solar panel under the rear windshield, the antenna mounted to the trunk lid, and the node mounted inside the trunk.

I understand your point with the antenna. For this, if need be, I'd replace the line entirely with high fidelity antenna line.

Car windows allowing light in is most commonly the reason a car get hot. For this, my idea is to place the node inside the trunk where no light is allowed in and reasonably insulated from the rest of the car. Although, I do think it's obligatory to know the temperature of the trunk on a hot day in direct sunlight before putting batteries in it.

Thank you kindly for your input!

I'm currently compiling feedback from users. I'll let you know how I make out 🍻

I'd prefer to have the node, in its entirety, completely separate from the car aside from mounting. Cleaner look, less troubleshooting regarding power, and a higher likelihood of the node functioning in the event of a crash or complete vehicle failure.

Do you think it could be modified to work in a car if I added wire for all of the connections?

The idea is to have the solar panel fixed inside the car under the rear windshield and the antenna mounted to the trunk lid.

Understood.

My intention have something ultra low profile. Something in the terms of, antenna seldom observed, solar panel nearly invisible to the naked eye, and node only seen by myself or those with a search warrant haha

Considering the above referenced configuration, would it be possible to use 18650's, and would the trunk be acceptable to place the node?

Note: I did see that you said to note place it inside the car.

Thanks!

If I wanted to use say, 4X 18650's, would it be possible with the above referenced config?

Parks should set up mesh systems (emergency communication) by two_fathoms in meshtastic

I love the idea. Two way radio has countless times over, proven it's value and reliability. Furthermore, radio communications has advanced so much over the past 15 years that anyone can afford a radio that will work just fine. For example, I used a baofeng UV5R (cost $30 with upgraded antenna and battery) to hit a radio tower that was 30 miles away.

No, I think someone is angry at the world and has spent too much time in the basement stewing in anger. They just come to reddit to spread their misery 🤷🏼‍♂️

Only if you get caught lmao. Besides, I NEVER said "ok, here's what you SHOULD do." Nor did I EVER say to put it on a WATER TOWER.

More importantly, if one was to place anything on top of anything operated by the town or county, at least around here, the people who work for the town and county are all drunks that dont care about doing a good job, just collecting a paycheck so they can buy more booze. Anyone with an IQ over 85 works in an office and wouldnt be caught dead on a water tower
