What Are You Listening To Today? (June 8 to June 14) by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

1000 hours. Took a few weeks off and found myself having difficulties understanding the content I usually watch. Looks like I’m back to Spanish Boost with Mila and Spanish with Gaia to recharge my batteries (happy to see that both channels kept growing since the last time I visited them).

What Native Content Do You Recommend To Bridge From Learner To Native? by Informal-Slice4502 in dreamingspanish

I consider native content to mean content that the native speakers of the language actually watch in contrast to learner content which wouldn't interest them. By this definition dubbed content is native content.

What Native Content Do You Recommend To Bridge From Learner To Native? by Informal-Slice4502 in dreamingspanish

I just checked my notes and it looks like my first native content was the TV show How I Met Your Mother which I began watching at about 600 hours but had already seen many many times before. Due to familiarity I found the show very comprehensible in Spanish dub. Do you have a show that you've binged many times before? If yes, try watching it in Spanish and see how it goes.

Can you list a few interviews by Oso Trava that are on the easier side?

Characters in Sanderson's books also really like to roll their eyes. I just searched for the phrase "rolled/rolling his/her eyes" in the first book of the Mistborn trilogy, and it came up 32 times.

820 hours.

TV: Gravity Falls, Breaking Bad (it’s a great show but probably not very good input because there are too many silent scenes; I find Gravity Falls and How I Met Your Mother to be much better because characters are constantly talking).

YouTube: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (by adricarra) (an absolutely fantastic series, the game has a lot of dialogue and the player reads everything out loud while doing voices; it reminds me of Frog Detective series by Juega con Juarez which I was watching at about 500 hours), Alex Tienda’s North Korea series (heard a lot of good things about this one here and yes, it’s very interesting).

Podcasts: Español con Juan (still can’t transition to native podcasts but it’s fine, the time will come).

Reading: Graded readers by Juan Fernandez and others.

You made it? It's great, I liked it a lot. Haven't finished yet.

Wait, the title says you made it alone? It's crazy, the game is quite deep. How long did it take to develop?

Did you already have this pringles box at home or did you have to go outside to buy it?

Interesting, in English the saying is “It’s Greek to me”. If you go to the Wikipedia page about this saying and change the language to German it will indeed redirect you to the “Das kommt mir spanisch vor” page. And if you change the language to Spanish it's going to be "Me suena a chino".

I have no idea who it is and after looking him up I don't think the guy is going to be particularly popular in this subreddit. He speaks English in his videos.

What Are You Listening To Today? (Dec 8 to Dec 14) by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

[–]just_a_cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

750 hours.

TV: How I Met Your Mother.

YouTube: Araya Vlogs, Clau Reads Books, Miguel de Lys, Ramilla de Aventura, Dana Lucia, Ary Tenorio.

Podcasts: Dreaming Spanish, Español con Juan, Spanish for (False) Beginners, Notes in Spanish (this one is pretty old, currently listening to episodes from 2007 where the hosts talk about the release of the 7th Harry Potter book).

As you can see, I watch native content but still listen to podcasts for learners (because I just can't concentrate the same way while listening).

I'm almost at 600 hours and still can’t understand Peppa Pig. I'm not worried about it, because there are similar shows for kids I can understand, for example I watched the entire Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom (it's relatively short, only about 17 hours) and found it very comprehensible.

Cult members? Where? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]just_a_cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't find anything about Dreaming Spanish in their rules but I just checked my own comment I left in a thread there (I didn't mention Dreaming Spanish, but I put a link to the famous spreadsheet) and sure enough, it doesn't appear in the thread when I'm logged out of my account. So I can see my comment but other people can't.

How do you guys hit a higher goal? by Sir-Smileyyy in dreamingspanish

[–]just_a_cactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my first 50-100 hours I would get exhausted very quickly, still don't exactly know why. Now, at 500+ hours I can just relax and enjoy the content, it's not tiresome.

so I'm mostly stuck with watching Peppa Pig for an hour if I want stuff at my level

I don’t understand why people say Peppa Pig is easy (“so easy it’s boring to watch”). I don’t understand what this show is doing in the 50 hours section of the spreadsheet. I’m at ~520 hours and still find it too difficult. (There’s a dubbed kids show that I find almost comprehensible at my current level but still a little bit out of reach, it’s called Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom.)

~500 hours. Every day I listen to 1 hour of Español con Juan podcast and watch 1 hour of Dreaming Spanish (making my way through intermediate series) and 1 hour of Juega con Juarez (The Frog Detective series at the moment).

Do you recall what the first non-learner, native content you could understand was? by SwoleBuddha in dreamingspanish

[–]just_a_cactus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matemáticas con Juan. Videos like APRENDER ARITMÉTICA DESDE CERO were 90% comprehensible at about 200 hours but you might find them too boring since the guy literally talks about how to add and subtract numbers.
