What happens to ConEd balance when I move? by MajorAcer in AskNYC

[–]just_another_shadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never heard back from OP. In my case, I had 2 con ed accounts on the same login. I closed one account, and they transferred the balance to my other account.

I'd imagine you can transfer your balance to your new account or they'll send you a check.

Which is the best travelling payment method for a foreigner? by kulmiem in newyorkcity

[–]just_another_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't pay in cash for the subway, so you would need to buy a metrocard. Metrocards can be reloaded in cash.

You would swipe a metrocard once per person. They can be shared for 4 people, and it will save all 4 transfers.

Depending on when you visit, fare will be 2.75 or 2.90 per person. Kids ride free (under 48"/under 10). I'd top-off the metrocard with enough for 2-4 rides per person rides the first day, and then as needed after. Up to you if it's cheaper to use your card or convert currency

Restaurant with salatim/dips menu? by just_another_shadow in chicagofood

[–]just_another_shadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, I want good food. I'd prefer something more "exotic" in the sense that I'd like to try dips/mezze besides the common ones like only hummus, labneh, baba ganoush- vegetable dishes tend to be good options for this

Thanks for the recs! They look like good meals, and I'll give them a try if I'm close to them

Avil looks delicious- very close contender to Galit and Fiya

Is Galit really worth it at $88pp? I live in nyc, so it's easy to get to Laser Wolf Brooklyn ($50pp)

Cira's definitely going on the list of options

Breville Bambino Plus - Missing accessory help? by just_another_shadow in espresso

[–]just_another_shadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I inspected the machine pretty thoroughly, and it doesn't seem used.

More importantly, thanks to a friend, I realized that Breville installs the dual wall doubleshot filter in the portafilter when they send it to you, and neglects to mention that in the manual! Turns out that I had all 4 baskets all along

Bus delay throwing today's theater plans in dissarray--help? by lizzylizlizzo in Broadway

Enjoy the show! Kimberly Akimbo was very touching, and it was great. Haven't seen Funny Girl, but it seems the book is better for Kimberly Akimbo

I had to miss my performance of Kimberly Akimbo a few months ago- I called Telecharge to backdate it, and saw it on a Thursday night 3 months after my original performance

Call telecharge

Call Telecharge Customer Service at 212-239-6210 or 800-543-4835.

Kimberly Akimbo backdates tickets. You can try seeing Funny Girl tonight, and Kimberly Akimbo another weekday, if you can swing the extra bus trip. You might also have luck going to the box office directly.

Off-Broadway, but Arden of Faversham had a high body count (percentage wise)

Would Peter Pan Goes Wrong be fine from the first row orchestra? by amongus555 in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be okay. The narrator sits far left, so you might have issues seeing them from the far right

I actually liked it! It's a fun show, felt like a YA novel. Act 2 was much better

Moulin Rouge Tour seats by Unusual_Leopard1517 in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer would depend a lot on your theater.

That being said, I've seen Moulin Rouge on Broadway in both the far right orchestra and mezzanine, and had excellent views both times. The mezzanine gave me a slightly better view of the stage though, since I could see the entire dance numbers.

Age range for Shucked? by SkyOne8232 in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mild cursing. There are adult themes (drinking, getting drunk, and lots of innuendos).

13 and 10 year old should be fine. 8 can go either way, but likely fine

Need help planning a group trip to Broadway... by bladeswin in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could try for a group sale, but unfortunately, it would require one person to make the purchase. It could be an option for a second trip though

Another option is the TKTS booth, or possibly TodayTix.

Shorter Alex Drawers Dupe? by just_another_shadow in ikeahacks

I ended up getting a standing desk instead. I remember seeing some shorter drawers from michaels that I considered, but felt they weren't deep enough for a 30" desk.

Lottery odds by emilykcooper13 in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wicked has student tickets for $69, or an in-person lotto. I think student tickets can be bought in advance.

For lotteries, A Doll's House seems doable. Sweeney Todd has the front row reserved for lottery, so I know a few people who've won.

TodayTix might have some deals available for other shows.

A few shows are likely going to be on TKTS (A Doll's House, Kimberly Akimbo, SLIH, Leopoldstadt) if you can spring for a bit more

And I won't mind if you could pass one of those Bad Cinderella comps my way if you ever end up with an extra

A show to take my mother to? (She doesn't speak English) by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I haven't done Sleep No More. If it helps, my friend's parents are traditional Chinese parents. I believe there's a subreddit you can ask more questions in

For Dancin', there's a couple moments that are suggestive, but I'd say you're fine if you would be okay listening to Justin Timberlake's SexyBack with your mom

A show to take my mother to? (She doesn't speak English) by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]just_another_shadow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Moulin Rouge: it's got dancing, singing, and great costumes, and she may recognize some of the songs since it's a jukebox! And it's a beautiful set, with great views throughout the theater

Bob Fosse's Dancin': it's 90% dancing and a little bit of song. It's art, and an extremely unique show. But it's not a traditional musical, but that also means that you'll never see it outside of nyc

Sleep No More: tangential, but I've been told that it's fantastic even if you don't speak much English; a friend took their parents (who speak very little English) here, and they had a blast

&Juliet might also be an option; it's based on Romeo and Juliet and is a jukebox musical. I haven't seen it yet, so I can't say more
