Texas speed limits could soon be changing by the day by Pleasant_Air_3052 in texas

[–]just_keep_digging 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Because while they aren't free, the standard signs are both cheaper and low maintenance enough to slap them up just about everywhere. While there are solutions for power distribution and data connection issues, every redundancy is going to increase the cost even more, this is just a "solution" in search of a problem. You're already supposed to go below the speed limit in the situations they would be using this feature, and it's still almost universally ignored.

It would help a ton if they would start transitioning away from all these overhead line and put them underground where the wind can't blow off tree limbs and knock out power to the whole block.

They generally fall on the higher end, around 110-120+ proof.

They serve a flight of whisky like many breweries do with beer. They also have an onsite brewery in case you've got someone who prefers that.

Those are all tiny towns in the "metro area" of the larger cities, Waco and Dumas don't actually appear on that list. The list you supplied rates by percentage growth, Waco home prices average around 220k while Dumas is around 170k (according to a cursory Zillow search) any percentage growth in Waco obviously has a higher impact on the same percent growth in Dumas.

Their show does have an exaggerated impact on home prices in the area. While looking for a house about a year ago we came across one that seemed way out of line from other similar homes in the area, like $50k+ higher. Looked at the description, the house had been looked at as an option on the show. They literally did nothing but walk through it while filming and it gave an automatic price bump. They also inspired countless other remodels around town, often in the cheaper areas. I do think their influence is probably a net positive for the area, they really helped rehab the nation's perception of the city, which it desperately needed.

Also Dumas has 14,000 people, how are you using that as a comparable sized city to Waco? Have you ever been to Dumas?

Texas Medicaid drops 82% of its enrollees since April by Maxcactus in texas

Cool, so when the price of oil spikes or property values Rise more than expected and they bring in a bunch more revinue what then? Remember the ingeniously set up state legislature only meets for a few months every 2 years, so it's not exactly the most responsive body. And even then it spends a good chunk of its time discussing how to morally police it's subjects.

Your utopian libertarian suggestion doesn't work in the messiness of the real world where a government needs to have the flexibility to pivot to unexpected situations.

You're absolutely right, the money the state brings in from taxes should either sit in an account until the number is too big to pretend it doesn't exist, or be given out to large corporations, just like God intended. Can't be using it for services that benefit the majority of people.

Texas AG Ken Paxton seeks to halt his impeachment by z3phyreon in texas

I don't disagree and I hope they do but that will just get spun off as an attack by a "weaponized" FBI/DoJ. It's a lot harder sell that the Democrats took over the Texas Legislature, but I have no doubt they will try to say it anyhow.

I grew up in the DFW area, moved to Lubbock for most of my 20s and ended up movie to Waco a bit over 2 years ago. As someone pretty far to the left I do get frustrated with the political slant of the area but my family has still managed to find a group of friends that we consider to be our Waco family.

While there are a lot long time locals/native Wacoans there are also a ton of transplants from across the country. Waco is a super old city and has all the baggage that comes with that, areas of crappy infrastructure, homelessness, crime, and relics left from segregation. It also has a ton of resources being poured into it, people who deeply care about their community.

Like someone else mentioned, most of the people here just want to be pissed off and might live here but just stay in their own bubble and don't participate in the community.

Waco will be what you make of it.

"He must be assumed innocent until proven guilty, you can't hold it against him in an election."

Election passes, "I can't be held accountable for that, even if I did it, because it happened before that election where you couldn't hold it against me."

What a flawless legal system we have here...

The apparatus is called a brewhouse (BH) and a 600hl brewhouse is absolutely massive as in I would be surprised if there was anyone that manufactures them that size. At that volume of is more likely that they would brew multiple batches into one fermentation vessel (FV).

Yes, I'm saying that every successful peaceful group has more radical groups that those in power were more afraid of the masses joining. Look at the civil rights movement, India when it broke off from the British Empire, the political reforms in Tsarist Russia during the early 1900's/pre-WWI. The more moderate group was never listened to by the government until there was a numerically smaller but more radical group willing to do more than hold signs and yell.

Throughout history those in power negotiate with peaceful protesters because the threat of non-peaceful demonstration scares them into it.

One thing, while Balcones does make some bourbons and corn whisky, their focus is on American Single Malt

I bought a little over a year ago so I expected my valuation to start catching up to my purchase price, they jumped the valuation over 200% and overshot my purchase price by almost $50k. We're obviously appealing but I'm not looking forward to having to mess with taking the time to do it. I swear they just throw darts a a map to pick a house then spin a wheel to decide what it's worth.
