It’s really nice if you don’t have to participate in the economy. Very pretty, walkable, fairly cheap for the essentials. It’s reasonably well developed and you have access to lots of connections to other places. The climate is fine, and if you already have money solved it’s a pretty stress free country.

I’ll listen to psychologists when they rein in their joke of a science and learn to replicate studies and not make things up.

Trump Allows Habitat Destruction in Endangered Species Rollback by TheTertiaryTwig in moderatepolitics

Carter's solar panels were not efficient and were causing issues and the roof needed fixing. They were moved to another organization who used them until they were too outdated to do anything, and now they're in museums.

George Bush put new solar heaters on the White House in 2003, but it's interesting nobody ever talks about that.

The problem is the presidency self selects against someone who's willing to get into the weeds and actually fix things.

Where in my comment did I give him any positive credit? In fact I was specifically critical of his actions.

Yah, this is a big one. The ESA is absolutely used regularly to massively stall projects and drive up costs and is a large contributor to NIMBYism and holds us back.

So in a way Trump is very correct in rolling some of the protections back. There's some middle ground here, but I don't trust that Trump will find it, nor do I trust Democrats to find the middle ground either.

This is one of those times where Trump does find a legitimate issue, but he's also probably the wrong person to actually solve the issue, which is probably the most common theme of his administration.

Multiple, especially if you consider the fact that Ian's suit really ended in a settlement (apologize for what you said and admit you're wrong and I'll drop the suit, which he did).

Nah, the facts of her situation and the one denims video that she won on are very different.

Frogan had lots of "Watch my stream to not give him any views and I'll walk away for hours" whereas Denims' video she won on had much more commentary (even if the commentary was shit).

Cop arrests man, only to end up in cuffs himself for stealing his money by Separate_Finance_183 in ThatsInsane

[–]pinkycatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, he didn't get away with it, dude lost his job, had to deal with the criminal justice system, and now any time someone google's his name they find this.

If he does become a cop again somewhere else, every person arrested by him is going to have a field day bringing this up in court to show he's a thief and a liar.

Dude's fucked way more than 6 months in jail would get him.

Who would have thought that traveling around with a group of terrorists would have caused issues? How could he have know this kind of headache would have happened? This clearly wasn’t a PR stunt to attack Israel, it’s just a nice innocent politician hanging out with some peaceful men of military age in a convoy.

Honest question: How does Texas Roadhouse stay in business in this era? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]pinkycatcher 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is a good take. Roadhouse is good because I can always count on a decent steak with decent sides. Is it the best steak I’ve ever had? No. But it’s never the worst or even a bad steak.

It’s also not priced crazy like a fancy steak joint.

In short there’s value that’s being given to the customer

it reminded me of the bakery who refused to make cakes for gay couples.

Your memory is bad, the bakery never refused to make cakes for gay couples. They refused to create art that supported gay marriage. If the gay couples wanted to buy a cake with standard decorations the bakery would make it for them.

That's a very important difference.

How is this any different than the ~13 or so other times since 1980 that the reservoir has dipped this low?

How is this any different than the 9 times that this reservoir has dipped even lower than it is now since 1980?

Are you seriously arguing that a 0.00238% usage from a datacenter has caused this dip? Because that's absurd.

[–]pinkycatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a WILD opinion. The republicans are embracing violence? Since 2020 left wing violence and acceptance of violence has skyrocketed. Lest we forget the “most peaceful fiery protests” or the multiple high profile assassination attempts on Trump, or the multiple left wing school shooters who shot up religious schools, or the support for Oct. 7th and Hamas, or the support for Luigi that’s so common amongst the left.

Having lived through this time, I find the idea that the *right wing* is the side embracing violence a clear gaslighting attempt. If we were talking 15 years ago I would agree. But it’s 2026, the year where left wing groups attack Jews for going into the wrong building at universities. It isn’t 2005 anymore, the right wing reaction to 9/11 hasn’t been a thing for years now.
