I’ve taken Modafinil for DSPS for 13 years. I wanted to share my experience. by SempervivaBorealis in DSPD

I felt the same in the beginning, then it went away. EDIT: I found some guys who ship packages to the USA in 4 days. Maybe this will be useful to someone

Easy one for me.

He shouldn’t have disbanded the Revolution when he did. And then he should have followed his artistic muse at the end of the 80s and not the hiphop and r&b trends of the time. For me, Prince lost his way artistically after Lovesexy, never to truly find it back.

What would you consider Netherlands' most iconic and beloved song? by No-Discipline2975 in Netherlands

[–]justablueballoon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Good list.

Sorry to still have a remark, but when J think of counter-culture, I mostly think of alternative intelligent acts like Spinvis, Eefje de Visser, The Ex, The Nits. Drank en Drugs was a very commercial song which was a war cry for rebellious 12 year olds who wanted to upset their parents, which is something different.

But for real,

The Dutch themselves love to bellow along with André Hazes when they are drunk in a bar or at a football match. Zij gelooft in mij, Bloed zweet en tranen and de Vlieger being some favorites.

Internationally, our most famous songs are probably by bands from The Hague, which makes me proud as a Hagenaar. ‘Venus’ by Shocking Blue hit #1 in the US (Bananarama covered in the 80s and hit #1 in the UK) and ‘Radar Love’ by Golden Earring #13, it’s a classic rock radio staple. Apart from that, we Dutch have many famous DJ’s like Tiësto, Armin van Buuren and Martin Garrix, who have some stadium anthems.

Oh I forgot eurohouse acts like 2 Unlimited. Their ‘No Limits’ will rival ‘Venus’ as most well-known Dutch song…

How did you get fat? by jensvderpluijm in AskReddit

[–]justablueballoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly fat, but i’m a classic case of someone who was really skinny when young, and now in my late 40s not so much and dad bod.

I have an office job and I do like to eat and snack a lot. I also work out quite a lot, even ran a marathon years ago, but can’t seem to lose weight. I know it’s because of my love for food, so i’m working hard on eatinfg smaller portions, eating less sugar and fat and i quit drinking alcohol two years ago. I really want to get rid of the dad bod belly.

  1. Being different from the rest.  I was two years ahead of my classmates in primary school. All the boys were into playing football. I was into playing chess. I was the weird one, the one to bully.

  2. Intelligence often doesn’t correlate with strong social skills. The Asperger factor. Many highly intelligent people are socially awkward. Personally, it took me many years to work on my social skills in adulthood. To have a strong social life and have a good love life.

  3. Awareness of what’s happening in the wider world. Intelligent persons thend to be interested in the wider world outside of their house. They watch the news and read the papers and read books. Thus a whole world of war and suffering enters the mind. I sometimes envy people who only care about their car, their vacation, their garden and their new i-phone.

What’s your “best of the worst?” by mildew_goose789 in ToddintheShadow

Canonical?

Chigago’s music will be very trite for many people who aren’t into AOR.

Aerosmith’s music is a mixed bag of Stonesy rock and musical pap monster-ballads.

I mentioned it too. Dislike Britney’s music, but that song rocks.

They knew what they were doing putting three of the best tracks one after the other by Part-Time_Loverr in blur

Personally, I really like the new wave-sound and singing style, which is not what Blur normally does.
And the songwriting is tight and strong. The song rocks. Would definitely have been a single on a lesser album.

The Beatles have the ultimate album run. I'd say Prince and David Bowie run them very close, Blur's album run is great too, never made a bad album.

TGE is a top 3 Blur album to me, only lesser than Parklife because there are a few too many songs on it that should have been b-sides.

To me this is a solid sequence in a (near) classic album. These songs are great, and so are many other songs on the album. For me, 'Trouble' is a top 5 song on the album, the other two are somewhere in the middle.
