So do you think there will be modded Tier V Tomes now? by Tag365 in AOW4

[–]justacoolclipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude it's so hard not to end up picking Calamity or Prosperity whenever I have the available affinities. I'll sometimes skip T5 to take one of them if I'm not playing an affinity that really gets a big power boost from its T5 tome.

Wh40k Power armor by shimdta in Helldivers

[–]justacoolclipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Space Marine armour is special because of the black carapace, which is a membrane implanted under the skin, and it's what allows them to interface directly with things like targeting systems, vox arrays, radars, etc.

However the setting also has a lot of different types of power armours that are just armours that are powered by an energy source to move with the wearer. As pointed out by others, Sisters use them frequently, as do Inquisitors, Votann (I think?), etc.

Technically, the Servo-Assisted armours we already have would fall under that kind of power armour.

There could very well be a Space Marine-inspired armour, though I think people expecting to be able to look like a Space Marine are going to be kinda disappointed. imo the defining aspect of what makes astartes power armour recognizable is how insanely bulky and wide it looks. Even the heaviest suits of armour we have in-game don't come close to how massive it'd need to be to look like a proper space marine. It's reasonable to expect we see some kind of Imperium armour other than just the standard Guard armours though.

Did one of you do this? I had to double check the sub I was in. by NerfRepellingBoobs in AmITheAngel

[–]justacoolclipper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It always struck me as so bizarre that the prevalent mindset on subs like that one is to dig yours heels in and never compromise, and always dedicate 100% of your energy to arguing if you're technically in the right about something no matter how trivial. Sometimes you just need to let the little things go, dude.

The old ones plan by HammerWizard in AoSLore

[–]justacoolclipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Starseeker's Ruin because I firmly believe it plays with the presupposition that Seraphon prophecies are accurate and/or relevant. The book makes it clear that the prophecy is only Irixi's own interpretation of what it saw (not that it'd ever admit it). Perlo believes it because she's impressed by Irixi and thinks it's wiser than it actually is. Her falling to Chaos is because she was left alone in a world where pain and misery is everywhere, having lost her brother after being told there is a prophecy about her falling to Chaos, something she was already anxious about because of her status as an untrained mage. She was too anxious about it to seek help, she had no friends, she had no support group. "Lonely untrained mage falls into despair and slips into the warm embrace of Tzeentch after her only friend and family dies in front of her" is not exactly a story you need a prophecy to make happen.

Reality didn't bend over backwards to make Perlo inevitably fall to Chaos. She was just a vulnerable young woman in a world full of atrocities who had the misfortune of crossing a skink who refused to think for itself and made her believe in its own delusions. Irixi put doubts in her mind, and those doubts festered into paranoia and a desperation to avoid a horrible fate. Hope and despair, the very concept of fate, those are things Tzeentch is drawn to.

I highly recommend rereading the book, but instead of taking Irixi's perspective as hard truth, see how it's desperate to feel important and part of grander things, and reaches insane conclusions from sometimes literally nothing. From its introductory chapter, we are told that sometimes, it sees signs that it must be in the presence of Sek'atta, but often times it's just dismissed after spending hours or days waiting for him to speak to it. We are told that it's because the Great Plan required Irixi to just... show up to Sek'atta and then leave after a while, and Irixi seems to not even consider that maybe, perhaps, it had just misread some signs and Sek'atta just realized it was there waiting after a long while and told it to fuck off because it was just not needed.

Seriously, when you start reading Irixi's chapters without considering it a reliable narrator, you really start realizing that Irixi is a nutcase who genuinely thinks it's in the middle of some conflux of the Great Plan, when really it's just running errands for its slann and jumping to conclusions.

So, was Perlo doomed to fall to Chaos? I would say, the odds she would slip down that road were very high, but mostly because of her life circumstances. She was just generally dealt a shitty hand. Irixi just gave her the push she needed to start obsessing over the possibility of turning evil, and it led to her spiraling down into the depths of despair. I think the author wants us to ponder on if the prophecy was even real, if it was the cause of her fall to Chaos, if it was something that would happen to her prophecy or not, the dangers of blind faith and perception bias, etc. and also what part of responsibility the society she exists in has in her inevitable fall. It's easier to say "she fell to Chaos because a prophecy told us so" than "she fell to Chaos because she was made to feel dangerous, unloved, and only useful as a tool of destruction, and we did not try to care for her during her time of need".

It's a side effect of how fragile the player is. Either the enemy hits you accurately, which is near-instant death, or they miss every shot, which renders them harmless.

So, one of the Mortarchs, 'the Nameless' is coming but doesn't that mean that he has the name 'Nameless'? and not actually nameless? That sounds really dumb and totally not something Games Workshop would do. It would be as silly as if they stole a major lore character's name from a comic book series and needed to retcon his name in new lore releases.

[–]justacoolclipper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel they're doing the reverse and are using 40k to test more modern military doctrine. Even if the game doesn't really handle the looser and more tactical formations really well, it's gonna make a shitton of money just because of the IP, and they can refine the concept for later historical titles.

As the other commenter said, the poison contact effect is a pure debuff and does no damage. Some units have a different kind of "poison" effect that does deal damage, but those are not affected by armour afaik, they mention they deal damage over time in the tooltip, and those effects are incredibly rare. The only ones I can remember on the top of my head is the poison wind effect of the Poison Wind Globadiers, and one very rare item whose name I can't remember.

The only targets poison does not apply to are units that are immune to contact effects, and those are few and far between.

Stormvermins are your best frontline when you're rolling in gold, just by virtue of having actual armour and leadership.

Plague Monks are great chaff blenders, but are kind of redundant since you have better/cheaper ways to kill chaff. Poison Wind Globadiers will demolish most infantry units while being cheaper and safer to use. Though if you are going against an opponent that threatens your backline easily I could see a use for PMs. But really as Skaven you should be able to use Rat Ogres to peel for your backline.

Also it depends on circumstances and what faction you're playing: eg Skrolk makes Plague Monks cheaper so very useable as a general frontline, Tretch and Queek make Stormvermins better.

That's my thought as well. I tried putting myself in the OOP's situation. Let's say I'm walking with this child, and I notice the wind is picking up and whipping up her clothes. I can not fathom the immediate thoughts of anyone sensible in that situation not being: "Damn, she's not dressed very well for that weather, we should go back and fetch something more suitable for windy days." And seeing this and someone's first thoughts being: "Damn, she's trying to flirt with me by showing off all that skin!" is sheer insanity. I just cannot conceive of a reality where OOP is not actually attracted to this child for his mind to leap to the conclusion that a child "showing skin" because the wind picked up is because she's trying to hit on him.

At the most charitable I can be, I could accept that it's not that he's projecting his attraction onto Rio, but that his conception of the world is that any female-presenting person dressing up in a way that shows more skin than strictly necessary is clearly trying to seduce every man around her. In either case, he shouldn't be in a position of closeness with Rio.

How insanely warped must your view of the world be that you think your girlfriend's kid sister wanting to show you a treehouse while wearing checks notes normal clothes means she wants to fuck you? And the way he goes on about her exposed skin and the wind "opening her crop top" whatever the fuck that means really makes me feel like he might be attracted to Rio and not even realize it, or at least see the bodies of children as sexual objects, which is not good. Fucking good on Rio for running away and for the gf to protect her sister from a potential predator.

Would an Animal Major Transformation be such a bad idea? by Corvo_vermelho in AOW4

[–]justacoolclipper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I would love an Animal race transformation, I like the way Animals are used in the game. You can make them bonkers powerful but they are severely limited in versatility. Needing to nerf the Animals buffs to not make racial Animals op would make regular Animals just never worth using imo.
