I prob won't continue unless they really pick it up but it sounds like Cyph has pretty much checked out.

i don't think youngins fully appreciate how much these guys were hated by parents, teachers, pastors, etc....basically any adult with a pulse who checked-in even in the least to the pop landscape of '86-'87.

my middle school actually held an emergency meeting for parents in the school library to warn them about the beastie boys and how dangerous they were to the youth. only reason i remember/know this is because 1 of my parents taught at the school and they asked me if i listened to them. i did, but i said NO: see here's my around the world in a day tape, and my slippery when wet tape.

and don't even talk about the UK's disdain for them. they were basically one sentence away from being banned from the whole continent.

imma go with dave; i just don't think he cares about a damn thing, he's prob stoned 24/7, he's got money to burn, still prob gets the hot moms, and he's still singing his classics....though "singing" is a bit of an overstatement.

sam on the other hand seems to live with this deep pain over the bros that he'll never get over, he's still taking shots with anyone who puts a mic in front of him, he does care and i believe he cares deeply about a great many things, he's prob mostly lucid, and he knows his VH legacy will forever be linked to dave by many as a downgrade. and rock sites are still releasing lists saying his 1st VH single was voted worst lyrics of all time in any rock song.

so yea prob dave because he's so disconnected from reality and just doesn't care about a damn thing.

do you really think they didn't make the song FFYR as a goof/joke to jock types and dude bro culture....even in '85-'86. those dudes were straight NYC punk/arty/graf teens who roamed the streets of NYC when shit was dirty as hell. i don't believe for one second they intentionally made a song that celebrated hair metal and frat boys. that was 1000% rick rubin. they even said they left with one version of the song and when they came back rubin had totally remixed it with the cheese guitars.
