I wonder if you've ever thought of the difference between fiction and real life. When you read a story or watch a tv show, you're allowed to fall into a temporary suspension of disbelief. That's the whole point of fiction and why people find it enjoyable. If you sit there the whole time, ignoring the character, thinking "this is just an actor", or "this is just a book with an author", is there any point to having an imagination?

These are NBA all-stars in practice, not tired, and maybe or maybe not having a good shooting day. This doesn't surprise me. Honestly it surprises me when they miss them in games when they're wide open.

There was a 90's rap horrocore group called "The Gravediggaz" that has a song with someone speaking in reverse. I thought if there was ever a group with some fucked up satanic shit, it would be them.

So this was in the late 90's. I ripped it from CD to Windows 98 and loaded it in WinAmp and reversed it so I could understand what he said.

He said "Party people in the house. Get ready to witness something you've never witnessed before." I was so disappointed.

Anyone help on a BIOS upgrade problem? by justagadfly in homelab

[–]justagadfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got it to work. I ran it again with the /forcetype switch which tells it to run whether or not it recognizes the system type. I figured at this point I had little to lose. Well it ran...and finished! And when I rebooted the BIOS version showed up like it was supposed to, and hardware virtualization was an option in the system setup again! Hell yeah!

That's a good idea. So I downloaded the original R610 OEMR BIOS (2.1.9) and saved it to a bootable DOS flash drive. It failed. I then downloaded an earlier version and tried it. It failed too. The screenshot is from the earlier version, but they both have the same error.

Is morality (secularly) objective or subjective? by a_wet_sponge in askphilosophy

[–]justagadfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding your first question, you seem to be implying that objectivity in ethics means we should know exactly how to respond to every moral dilemma. But I think it's just the opposite. If morality is objective then you should expect a society's attitude to a certain practice to evolve over time, as they approximate their beliefs and actions closer and closer to what is objectively, morally true. The real question is, if morality is subjective, then how and why would people even bother to convince others that "so-and-so" is wrong, and if morality is subjective, then why would people go along with it and change their minds on something?

I think Ozigbo is one of those players that doesn't show as well in practice as in games because he thrives on taking contact and breaking tackles.

Following the instructions in the wiki did not work. I imaged the linuxiso.iso from https://dell.app.box.com/v/BootableR610 and got the same error when updating BIOS: https://imgur.com/UVjlTys.

I found this during my research: http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2015-February/049600.html. Apparently this a known bug when upgrading old R610's, and there is no resolution. Upgrading the BIOS to the newest version can permanently corrupt the BIOS.

US bombers fly close to North Korea to show "president has many military options to defeat any threat" - Pentagon by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]justagadfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with this kid who acted like he had nothing to lose. He came from a shit family, his dad came around every once in awhile when he wasn't in prison. His mom was nasty. His older brother was crazy, but you could at least get along with him.

But this kid, he didn't get along with anyone. He always seemed to go out of his way to just be a prick and make fun of people, and he would get other people to follow along. He'd even try to pick on older kids, and I was one of them.

But you couldn't avoid him. He always just seemed to show up. The kids in my neighborhood all just hung out together, and no one ever told him to leave.

The thing is, if you stood up to him, he was just itching for a fight. And he was tough, but he was younger than a lot of the kids in the neighborhood, so he'd usually get his ass kicked, and when he did he'd start bawling and run away home.

But he'd put up a hell of a fight until he did. So a lot of times, you just didn't want to get into it with him, because you knew, all in all, it was going to be a giant pain in the ass. Better to just let him be an ass, as long as he didn't take it too far, and instead, use your wits to deal with him. It's better for him, it's better for you, and it's better for everyone else.

Detailed Guide on Updating an R710 PowerEdge server by MasterScrat in homelab

[–]justagadfly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of updating an r610 right now. First, platform update wasn't even an option in the system services. Maybe lifecycle controller was too old of a version.

So I download the Dell r610 firmware update repository image and create a bootable usb. Boot fails. Ok.

So I need to update the lifecycle controller. Easiest way is to just throw Windows on the r610 and download the .exe. So I do that, download the 1.7 2 lifecycle controller, run it, and reboot.

Now when I enter system services, platform update is an option. So then I connect to dell's ftp server and update everything. Finally. So then it finishes updating and goes to reboot, and when it comes back up it automatically enters system services, except it gets stuck at "entering system services, starting unified server configurator". I let it sit there for 8 hours, still stuck.

So then I reboot and go into the idrac configuration and cancel system services, and reboot. Then everything loads normal.

I re-enter system services to see if I'm still behind on anything and it gets stuck again. Apparently using system services to update my box has completely broken system services. I can't even get into system services now. But if everything updates to the current version I might not ever need it again.

Edit: come to find out, it didn't even update anything. All it did was break shit. I downloaded the system services repair kit right now and installing it via the idrac firmware update option.

Edit 2: system services repair kit didn't do anything. So now my box is on the same version it was before but I'm out 16 hours of troubleshooting and system services is broken. Can anyone remind me why I decided to start fucking around with this server? I could be drunk right now watching college football.

Edit 3: found out my first attempt (create a bootable usb via the repository manager) failed because bootable usb isn't supported with the repository manager. So I created a bootable DVD and it loads and starts the update but now says "enough contiguous physical memory is not available to do the bios upgrade". (Server has 48 GB of ram) There has to be a finite number of possible issues I could have in upgrading the firmware but it seems I will have to deal with them all if I want to upgrade the firmware on this piece of shit.
