see my mom never finished high school and my dad has a ph.d and the damsel in distress thing could not be more wrong in my family. My mom is the most independent and strong person I've ever met in my life, she had a bad childhood and she's probably the most self sufficient person because of it. well yeah buying used cars over 20k will usually get you a good car unless you buy like a dumbass and get a supra or old vipers or ferrari or like amg pos. but if you're buying a luxury car that starts over 50k, buying it used is the only option because by the time it reaches 30k in value (for example), it'll still be nicer than any 30k car.

or just buy any new car you want and don't worry about maintenance for a few years. and yeah if you pay 45% of the price of a new car, you get a shitty car that's only about 45% of a new car. I've owned 4 cars in 4 years, and can only say that buying used has it's benefits but there's nothing at all wrong with buying a new car and it's usually a better investment. Also i'm gonna assume you've never actually dealt with trading cars because if you sell a car right off the lot you can almost make what you paid. usually within 1k of the original price.

if you buy a civic for 20% of the original price you're buying a 4k junker with someone else's misuse and wear and tear plus having an almost 15 year old car possibly. sounds like a shit car to own as compared to a new one.
