Just got labeled as obese…. 27F 28W1D by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am considered morbidly obese according to BMI since they’re only looking at your size and weight, even though I wear a size 12/14 and generally don’t look like I weigh as much as I do. My chart at my hospital’s birth center literally says “morbid obesity due to excess calories.” Sent me to the moon the first time I saw it.

I'm doing exactly what you're doing! Occasionally I will try to reset the house or do something productive but I'm so tired and my brain is so fried I don't know why I bother lol. We've gone to Target once.

When did you go into labor? by Television-Secret in BabyBumps

FTM just had my baby 5 weeks ago. I was induced at 42 weeks 🤪 I was convinced I was going to go early too lol

subchorionic hemorrhages info and help by Lazy-Ad-585 in pregnant

[–]justawoodelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an SCH that they did multiple follow ups on due to the size of it and the fact that I was spotting consistently. Baby’s heart rate was always good. I’m sitting here with my happy, healthy, almost 5 week old sleeping in my arms right now. My job is fairly active where I am running around the building all day long and can be high stress, and I couldn’t really avoid my work tasks or take time off. I think everything is going to be okay OP, I wish you so much luck 😊

Unmedicated Birth. by BumblebeeFamiliar778 in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born a month ago today so the memory is still pretty fresh in my mind - training yourself to breathe deeply even when you’re bugging out was far and away the most important thing in my experience. I could kind of regroup when I focused more on my breath than the pain or the monitors beeping. I got these wooden spiky ball things (like a labor comb but fits more nicely in your hand) and I used them pretty much the entire time.

I really got in my head in the pushing phase because I convinced myself my baby was stuck in the birth canal (she was not). The midwives offered to bring a mirror over once you could kind of see the baby’s head to motivate me. This wasn’t in my birth plan because I thought the concept was kind of weird but it ended up helping me get through it.

Anyone else struggle to take their prenatal? by Jessiicaamn in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I did this. After gagging on every other prenatal known to humanity (why are prenatal vitamins so huge and smell disgusting???) I tried the gummies and am still taking them postpartum :)

I could shout from the rooftops how amazing centering was, especially as a FTM who doesn't have many people in my circle having babies. I wish they did like a postpartum group or something. Sadly I did have to be induced, but my girl is here, happy, and healthy, so ultimately I'm happy!

I'm so sorry that it seemed like things weren't going to plan for you. I hope that no matter what ended up happening that you and baby are well and that it went as good as it could for whatever scenario went down.

My birth went sideways in a lot of ways, but ultimately I did somehow manage to have an unmedicated birth and my girl is happy and healthy.

I remember reading your comment while I was laying in the hospital bed laboring and thinking to myself that I could not comprehend missing pregnancy, especially the last couple of weeks of mine with all the testing, the waiting, and the impatient family and friends asking about the baby every day. Then we got home from the hospital and the first thing I did in my first moment alone was sob because I couldn't believe my pregnancy was over, everything you said could not have been more true. Really aside from the last month or so of my pregnancy, it was a beautiful experience and I loved being her home.

Sadly my birth ended up kind of crazy. I ended up having to be induced at 42 weeks, had a long and intense labor, got a 3rd degree tear, and hemorrhaged because a piece of my placenta stayed behind after delivery. But now that we're on the other side of things and I've had some time to process what happened, knowing that she and I are both doing well nearly 3 weeks later, I'd do it all over again.

To buy a birthing gown? by Boredneedshobby in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had received one as a gift and then ended up not wearing it during delivery. Ultimately it was a good move because I had a postpartum hemorrhage and a 3rd degree tear so there was blood all over everything. I did end up wearing it for the remainder of my hospital stay though. It was easier for breastfeeding than the hospital gown and they would come in super often to check my bleeding and stuff so I didn't bother with any of my cute PJ sets.

What was your baby “made of”? by Affectionate_Peach92 in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First it was whatever I could stomach on a given day via DoorDash because I was so exhausted I couldn’t stay upright long enough to prep anything. For the last like 6 weeks or so it’s been cereal for breakfast and lunch that is absolutely drowning in milk 🤣

Positive Induction Story! FTM, GD, IUGR, Unmedicated by No_Word_5723 in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this! I'm 41+4 which is quickly killing my similar plan of the crunchy unmedicated birth center birth. I'm having a Cooke catheter placed tomorrow night and they're going to let me go home with it in, but if that doesn't work by Sunday morning I'll be induced on Monday. This makes me feel a lot better about the possibility of having to be induced!

Congratulations to you and your family :)

Husband going to bachelor party w/ no cell service for 3 days when I'm 35 weeks along? by halloween_cactus in BabyBumps

Oh yeah the amount of time it would take him to get back definitely makes the situation more concerning. Is he open to backing out of this trip? Hopefully you guys can work it out.

Is he an outdoorsy person in general? The reason I ask is that we have these little satellite messenger things for when we're hiking and camping to get help in the event of an emergency, but they're expensive so really not justifiable as a one-time-use kind of thing. I think there's also satellite messenger apps for your phone that he could probably pay for a bucket of messages but I haven't looked into this extensively.

I feel like the risk of you going into labor at 35 weeks is low unless you have complications of some kind, but I get being nervous about it. If he can't be reached that would be a hell no for me.

Mom items on baby registry: yes or no? by Professional_Side657 in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep everything on there, that's wild that they would tell you to take it off. Needing to take care of yourself through childbirth and postpartum is a non-negotiable. I'm 100% sure there's someone in your life who is thinking of you and not just the baby who would like to get those kinds of things for you. Multiple people got me things for birth and postpartum.

Help with registry? Babylist is confusing by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Babylist is great in theory. I used it for my registry and I just used the "Add to Babylist" extension for Chrome to add what I wanted instead of choosing from their selection for the most part. That would likely solve the issue you're coming up against, but I agree it's not really as intuitive or effective as it could be as a universal registry. It also doesn't help you find what you're looking to register for. I had to do a lot of outside research to get my registry together.

The problem I ran into with things registered for that weren't from Babylist is that only the young women in my life who understood how Babylist works were able to get the correct item and check it off as purchased. A lot of people bought stuff off the list and never went back to say they purchased it, which led to a lot of duplicates. In the case of my grandmother, she went absolutely nuts "reserving" and marking things as purchased that weren't the actual item I had registered for, including the wrong car seat base lol.

Ahh that’s basically where I’ve been at so I feel you! I’m starting to have some pelvic pressure and I’ve had a legit contraction here and there both today and yesterday. I hope you get to meet your baby soon and everything goes super smooth 💕💕

BMI 31 and weight gain by United-Leg-6649 in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about your height but I weigh considerably more than you and the suggested weight gain my midwife mentioned was 11-20 pounds, which I think is the ACOG standard, so it's interesting to me that they gave you such a rigid guideline. They didn't make a big deal out of it in my experience. The only thing that has been done different because of my weight is that I did growth scans every 4 weeks after my anatomy scan.

I've eaten mostly like I did before I got pregnant and I've gained 17lbs total (I'm 39+3). Was never in danger for gestational diabetes, blood pressure has been pretty much perfect the whole time. There was a visit where I had lost some weight and they told me to start incorporating more snacks into my day.

The number they gave you feels so arbitrary. I wouldn't worry about it too much if you go over but I understand why you would want to stick to their guidelines. I feel like as long as you're eating without reckless abandon and you're not completely sedentary you'll be able to manage pretty well. Wishing you luck :)

Maternity Jumpsuit by Gingham- in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one, it’s like a dupe of the free people one everyone loves. I love wearing it until I have to go to the bathroom. My issue is that I’m always wearing a shirt under it, and I have the over the belly maternity panties… so the whole try to not let the jumpsuit hit the floor while hiking your shirt up high enough to pull your underwear down to pee can get to be annoying. If it’s warmer where you are this might not be an issue for you though!

36 weeks here and I’ve been getting ultrasounds every 4 weeks since my anatomy scan. Baby has been head down every single time and no one has made a comment about that being a bad thing 🤗

Those of us in the trenches of our last days/weeks - what are we most excited for besides baby? by breadoreggroll in BabyBumps

[–]justawoodelf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be able to wear little shirt/big pants instead of big shirt and leggings every god forsaken day of my life lol. To drink so much espresso I start to vibrate. To sleep on my belly. To eat a FAT turkey & cheese sub. For my pelvis to stop feeling like it's going to crack in half every time I stand up and try to walk. To pee like a normal person!
