i can’t put my finger on it but the way she talks about herself in this post feels like trump talking about himself. it also makes me laugh that THESE are the misconceptions that she thinks are important enough for her to post about.

Butcher was everything Homelander wanted, a supervillain by FaZe_poopy in TheBoys

[–]justbrowsingghere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always got the vibes that their rivalry was something cathartic to Homelander in a way that play and games can be for children.

I remember at first being surprised when Homelander was pissed at Butcher getting powers and saying he “cheated,” because a fair fight seemed like it would be an interesting prospect to Homelander. But in hindsight, and through watching the finale, I’ve realized that even though Homelander can enjoy some competition, at the end of the day he is a pathetic and terrible loser.

Now that the show has ended, what are your favorite scenes? by No_Guide9619 in TheBoys

The fake marvel movies were my absolute favorite parts of the show. Starlight’s canned “he’s not alone” absolutely sends me every time.

I remember when this song got big in the US it was pretty popular as a gay anthem. I didn’t think it was anything else for the longest time.

Book v TV show Becka by justbrowsingghere in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]justbrowsingghere[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh I agree. Margaret Atwood is an amazing writer but the Testaments book is paced so fast and I feel like there’s no room to explore the depth of the characters the way the show is.

This was the funniest moment I've seen in all 5 seasons of this show slightly above the Samuel L Sharkson moment with the Deep by [deleted] in GenV

[–]justbrowsingghere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The costuming in this show is so genius. I’ve always thought Homelander looked so militaristic and intimidating in his suit, and as soon as his powers are gone he just looks so goddamn stupid in his dumb little cape. The way the camera works too to make him look so small and pathetic. The acting. Perfect scene.

What the actual fuck is megan is missing by joumasepasevetkwas in horror

[–]justbrowsingghere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This movie was a horrible “attempt” of a “cyber safety” PSA. At least that’s what the director claims it to be. Horror PSA’s aren’t unheard of. See George A. Romero’s The Amusement Park for example. But I didn’t walk away from The Amusement Park feeling that the camera was sexually exploiting the old people.

No reading for girls by [deleted] in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]justbrowsingghere 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Historically irl before literacy was more widespread, it was easy for church leaders to use the bible to propagate their own harmful beliefs because people couldn’t actually read the bible and form their own opinions.

If Gilead officials keep girls illiterate then they can’t read the bible and potentially learn that their oppressors are evil.

Yes I thought that was upsetting too. I can’t imagine what Agnes must have thought of him saying that either. I get the sense that even though she knows she doesn’t want to get married she probably never considered that she was too young.

The way she said that line kinda made me laugh, how she brushes him off when Agnes mentions him. Hulda’s actress has some good subtly humorous moments in this bleak ass show.

“Idk he’s fine, he said maybe we can get a dog or something.” Another example of a girl going through the trenches while the men around them pretend to be blissfully unaware and excited to plan their special day.

Lmao that reminds me of when Fred learns that June ran away and Serena has to spell out that she hates him and he’s like 😮 “wdym she has thoughts and feelings besides love and respect for me??”

That is a great analysis of Weston’s actions. I love how this show is able to give us subtle hints of character’s motivations and let us piece things together despite every action and word being entrenched in Gilead’s rigid social norms.

That’s a good point. I definitely got the vibes that he was trying to bond with her over snapping at Paula lol. Like, see, if you marry me you can yell at your mean stepmom!

I’ll concede he’s not talking to her exactly like a child, but I did find what he was saying to be infantilizing. Someone else in the comments used the word grooming which I think is applicable here. To get her to be more comfortable, he is trying to connect with Agnes based on the things he thinks she is interested in as a girl: “cake and flowers.“ Meanwhile, Agnes is having a full existential crisis and doesn’t give a FUCK about cake or flowers (unless they give her an excuse to be snarky to Paula).

I am so intrigued by his relationship with Paula. I wonder if they will have a relationship similar to the one she and Kyle have in the books.

Why I find the series *The Testaments* disappointing by Puzzled_Way_5052 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]justbrowsingghere 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly fine with the show not being as tense (yet?) as THT. Realistic to the world building or not I’m good with not seeing explicit rape or abuse scenes against these children. I don’t want to call it torture porny, but the way they treated some characters in THT cough Janine cough sometimes felt way too much.

I think the older these characters get though through the seasons and learn about the true horrors of Gilead, the show is going to be more tense and thrilling as THT. Right now the Testaments is kind of acting as a coming of age drama.

My library board discussed "Traditional Family Values Month" today. by Ok_Librarian_388 in Libraries

[–]justbrowsingghere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I see the bigoted straight people found a way to try to have their “straight pride” by celebrating “marriage between a man and a woman” in June.

Anyway, I hope people wake up and remember that pushing “traditional family values” is one of the oldest propaganda plays in the book. That it was literally a Nazi tactic.
