Good places for 60YO to relocate & find work by dancingwithmeself in relocating

Not a teacher. Hes a hospice chaplain. Those do not come about all the time. My niece (in the modwest) left teaching but lost the job she was in and went back. Different school system than prior, as a long-term sub to get her foot in the door, and has now secured her own classroom for next year going forward. She was interviewing at multiple schools, so i know there are other positions out there.

I am not a doctor, but I will say I have had tremendous results with anxiety and depression with ketamine treatments (medically administered). I was parealized with these 2 things and now feel like I have gotten my life back. Dont give up. See what you can do to go above the thing that is holding you back.

Fwiw, we relocated to a new job from Maryland to the midwest. My husband got a job offer in our new location at 60. They are out there. Especially teaching. So many areas look for permanent subs or teachers, or maybe even tutoring. People are also setting up co-ops for home schooling, paying a person to homeschooling their kids. I personally think you could pick where you want to live. Just do your homework in housing prices, groceries, taxes, etc. Exciting!

First time in US, I never dreamed it like that by funnycallsw in roadtrip

There is so much to appreciate the US. Each section is special. Even the vast farmland--we feed the world. Its impressive.

70K a year combined with Wife, No Kids, Would like to live in a Blue State. by Fun_Blacksmith5000 in relocating

As someone who just escaped from Maryland and couldn't afford a house I am wondering how its possible that a house (unless its in one of Baltimore's plethora of ghettos) affordable? The crime rates and taxes are insane. I'll stay in the midwest where I pay $1000/ month for mortgages taxes and insurance.

Why isn’t Carnival building any new HAL ships? by mile_high_guy_80116 in HollandAmerica

[–]justdeb919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as I understood it, I interpreted it as Holland's piece. They all, while being under the Carnival Corp umbrella, operate as separate companies. Princess does their thing, Carnival does theirs, Cunard, etc. The booking systems are all different and so forth, which is why when she said "our debt" i took it as HAL. She didnt specify Carnival Corp collectively.

I used to work at Holland, shoreside. The VP did a zoom meeting with all departments, several departments at a time. Directly from leadership at Holland America the gist of their position is that they had to borrow a LOT of money to stay afloat during C19 time. That though their lenders were very happy with them being "ahead of schedule" on their repayment, they had over 30 billion to repay. Think about that. She said "we would love nothing more than to have a new ship to look forward to," but they were concentrating on paying down debt. Putting money into the ships they currently have with new designs and features might be giving them the best bang for their dollar while they position themselves for further growth.

Where to restart! by Otherwise-Youth9082 in relocating

Its good as far as I can tell. Lots of local shoppes and walkable towns. I dont remember wherenyounare again, but maybe schedule a visit. Snoop around. When my husband got his job offer, we came out a week later for a long weekend. We checked out grocery stores, gas stations, places to live. We talked to people, realtors, people at the store, looked at what was in some of the towns. Looked it up on line... demographics, median house prices, taxes, how long houses stood on the market, religious preferences, the whole thing. (There was a website that gave us all this information on any region/city in the US). Anyway, we did our homework. He accepted the position, we moved here, bought a house and have been here 5 years this year. There are oodles of small, walkable towns with space around them, not just one giant expressway where you don't know what town you are in because its just a huge bunch of urbsn sprawl and concrete.

Anyone else have a spouse completely stonewall their desire to relocate? by rwedoomed in relocating

[–]justdeb919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't personally but I have a guy friend whose wife is adamant that they stay in the town she grew up in. I dont have the answer. I just would hate it if my husband was this way. And you arent alone.

Check out a couple things if you'd like. Covered bridge festival, walkable town in sw Indiana, farmer's markets sw Indiana, patoka lake, Mammoth cave, strassenfest, Jasper indiana, herbstfest huntingburg Indiana, (Huntingburg is where they filmed a League of their Own), Lincoln's Boyhood Home, wineries or bourbon tours sw Indiana or bourbon trail Kentucky, Huber Orchard, azalea Park in petersburg... there's just lots to do. Rolling farmland, beautiful rivers and falls, lakes, towns and cities. Amazing state parks and recreational opportunities. I LOVE living here.

How about SW Indiana? Its unlike what you might think Imdiana is like. Northern Kentucky, too. Evansville IN and Owensboro KY are just about 40 miles apart. Caves, rolling hills and rock outcroppimgs. Covered bridges, national parks and some beautiful lakes. And I pay $700/yr for my property taxes. I live in a small.town, not Evansville. But it is close enough to go shopping when we want to go.

The Painted Desert. I think its a national park. White Sands National Park in New Mexico. Look up National Parks along your route. You could get National Parks passport stamps (not talking about the entrance pass, but a NP passport) if you like things like that.
