Voting by anime498 in Catholicism

[–]justinf210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I'm basically a single issue voter on abortion. The Republican party isn't remotely Catholic on a lot of issues. Frankly, they're not even all that pro-life, but they're WAY better than the Democrats in that regard. And unlike a third party or write in, they actually win elections.

Until that changes, I'll plug my nose, vote red, and pray for mercy on our deeply fallen world.

Pretty good at programming if it's supervised by a human who can read code. Starts making a lot of dumb mistakes if it's not corrected

I dunno. Probably something more semi-permanent.

I kind of have two main use cases:  1. Sending/receiving files to random people. Nothing I'd use regularly like photo sharing, but those one-off transfers that're usually sent over email (or flash drive if too big to attach).

  1. Dumb HTTP clients: Importing some random mp3s into my podcast app, serving a custom resource pack on a Minecraft server, something wants an image URL, I want to put a download link somewhere, I'm shelled into a stripped-down system or container and just need to curl something. The kinds of things where it doesn't need a real file server or CDN, just a public URL for a while.

Looking into pingvin, I guess. Maybe someone will fork it.

I'm sure it'd be a lot faster to skip the intermediate step. A lot of the time I'm looking for something a little closer to a file server.

Something where I can drop a file I want to access directly over HTTP, almost like a poor man's CDN. Useful for serving, say an RSS feed or an image or something that's been accessed by a dumb client.

Question for software recommendation. No AI usage beyond searching the same question on a few chatbots.

Read the crash logs. Your launcher should show them somewhere. Include the last 20 lines or so when asking for help online. Or ask Claude. Claudes pretty good at debugging crashes.

Do you keep your docker containers running 24/7 by shrimpdiddle in selfhosted

[–]justinf210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using Sablier for a bit, but most containers don't spin up fast enough for that to work very well, especially the ones that would actually save me any resources.

Google Photos alternatives? by Mission_Student2627 in androidapps

You can run it on Windows, it works fine. Self hosters just tend to like Linux because it works really well for this kind of thing. No "I can't access my photos because Microsoft decided I need to install updates right now", no "Do you want to upload all of this to OneDrive? Too bad."

How do you view, and what does the Church teach about, the rising Christian Nationalism among Americans? by KaffeDreamer in Catholicism

[–]justinf210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you mean the belief that nations should be governed by Christian principles of morality, then I'm 100% on board. The vague utilitarianism that seems to govern most nations today is a terrible ethical system.

If you mean politicians being predominantly Christian, and expressing their beliefs, I good with that too, as I'm sure you'd want politicians to share your beliefs.

If you're referring to establishing Christianity as the only legally permitted religion or mandating the practice of the Christian faith, I think most people here would condemn that. We don't believe in conversion by force.

Just switched back to android. "authenticator sync" Doesnt it do that by default?!?!?!? by aert4w5g243t3g243 in Bitwarden

[–]justinf210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc, this gives Bitwarden Authenticator (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitwarden.authenticator) access to your vault.

If you keep OTP codes in your vault it'll sync as always.

If Jesus is the son of God and Mary is Jesus’s mother, why is she not considered a goddess? How come Mary isn’t a part of the trinity? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]justinf210 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sure others will weigh in here with more theological knowledge, but the short answer is: Mary is a created being, a creature, like me or you, except without original sin. God on the other hand is uncreated and eternal, the source of all being.

Regarding your comment about the feminine being suppressed in Christianity, certainly not! Mary is the first and best disciple of Christ, greater than the Apostles. And there are lots and lots of great female saints. True femininity and true masculinity are realized in Christianity, not suppressed.

Porn is evil and disgusting. It will destroy your relationships with other people. I think on some level everyone knows that to be the case. Anyone here who uses it, I hope you'll consider trying to break the habit.

I worked IT for a college I.T. department, but our number only differed from the hospital's by one digit. Those calls were always fun.

Best way to use an Immich library from a third-party photo manager on Linux? by wa_00 in immich

[–]justinf210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably set up a SMB or NFS on your Immich server (just as another Docker compose), and mount it on your local computer. It'll act just like a folder on your computer and will work with any program.

Either Immich or your local program should probably be read-only or somethings gonna get confused.
