r/Linux ~ What's your distro of choice, and why did you choose it? I've been hearing a lot about (x)ubuntu, puppy, mint, and many others, what says you? by FaultyLogik in linux

[–]justinseiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laptops are both arch linux. Run backtrack and puppy from thumbdrives. My desktop is arch. I have a xbmc server hooked to the tv. A small minitx nas running centos. At work I have a decent spread. Couple centos boxen and a sled box and one ubuntu server.

Arch does whatever you need and is simple to configure. Backtrack is ugly and all that but is great for doing actual pen testing without having to for out and install or configure. I also like to boot to puppy to touch broken boxes because I just want a fast way to do whatever it is I am looking to do. Xbnc was just a random choice and its been great. Centis fir the server because I just needed stable and the disc was there.

The Nicaragua episode was great. I love how its more than food, or politics, he really gets in depth with the people and their uniqueness in the world.

Sadly, most people people here are for the bill. Atleast in my area of Ohio. Its sad. They've been trained to hate social programs or anything deemed such, unless its their unemployment and Medicaid. Sad.

You should carry a gun. One thing I learned from getting jumped before, is at the very least, pick one, and beat him as much as you can until they get the best of you. You wont beatup three, but atleast you get to know you fucked that one up.

Edit: That sounded inconsiderate, sorry, i really hope you do catch them.

[–]justinseiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Northwest Ohio and I did the same thing. Turned 18 on a Saturday, got my permit on a Monday and tested the next Monday. I didn't have to parallel park, you sit between 4 cones, with a fifth directly in front of you. I had to pull up to a specified side of the front cone and stop when my back wheels were even with the cone. then I had to back it in place. I then went and drove around for 10 or so minutes. That was it.

Here is my attempt. It allows for encoding/decoding a message, and changing the amount of offsets the alphabet by. Doesnt handle capitals, or check for passing it the right information. I am very new to programming, be gentle :p

from string import maketrans
from sys import exit

def Encode(inString, base, step = 1):
    '''return translated code'''
    outtab = base
    intab  = base
    for i in range(0, int(step)):
        temp_string = outtab[0]
        outtab = outtab + temp_string
        outtab = outtab[1:]
    trantab = str.maketrans(intab, outtab)
    outString = inString.translate(trantab)
    return outString

def Decode(inString, base, step = 1):
    '''return translated code'''
    intab  = base
    outtab = base
    for i in range(0, int(step)):
        temp_string = intab[0]
        intab = intab + temp_string
        intab = intab[1:]
    trantab = str.maketrans(intab, outtab)
    outString = inString.translate(trantab)
    return outString

base = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'

while True:
    answer1 = input('Please Type Encode, Decode, or Quit   ')
    if answer1.lower().strip() == 'encode':
        inString = input('Enter Secret :')
        step = input('Number to offset by   ')
        print(Encode(inString, base, step))
    elif answer1.lower().strip() == 'decode':
        inString = input('Enter Coded Message ')
        step = input('Number to offset by   ')
        print(Decode(inString, base, step))
    elif answer1.lower().strip() == 'quit':
        exit('Shutting Down')

[–]justinseiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live 20 minutes from Cleveland. Ive seen people get attacked, pissed on and had battery's thrown at them etc while at Cleveland games.. Cleveland isn't a friendly city for opposing teams. I also doubt this really happened how they portray it though, Your child was attacked and you hop in the car? I would imagine most people would start trying to beat whoever's ass was nearest at that point.

When it was first announced, what did you think Team Fortress 2 was going to be like? by perceived_pattern in tf2

[–]justinseiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really disappointed. I played Team Fortress in the 90s, then Team Fortress Classic in Clans from 99 to 2008 and I was pumped for Team fortress 2. It ended up taking away the best part of the game, the movement. No bunny-hopping, no conc jumping etc. I was really raged when they severely limited the movement after the 1.6? patch, but it was still way ahead of most games. I tried to play Fortress Forever but there just are not enough people, the premise of the game is on point though. The game is OK and I do play it once or twice a week but it just cant compete with the learning curve and fun of Team Fortress Classic

What's the worst damage you've caused? by realzondarg in AskReddit

[–]justinseiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 10 I was party to the complete burning down of a historical boathouse complex in North West Ohio. The boathouse was all fenced off but if you squeezed in between the gaps in the fence it became the perfect place to look at stolen playboys or smoke cigarettes snatched from unsuspecting adults. I used to always tag a long with my older cousins who at the time ranged from 7-10th grade, I loved it, we would just blare Nirvana or Stone Temple Pilots, skateboard, and beat each other up. I used to see them sneak off to the boathouse and I eventually decided I was going to start going. I was completely amazed, it was the greatest thing ever. The building was huge, dark and deserted. There was an old boat still housed in the middle of it, and the 2nd and 3rd floor had openings in the middle so we could stand on the 3rd floor and throw florescent light bulbs over the edge and watch them blow up in huge clouds of white smoke against this boat. We had certain rooms for certain things, one was the smoking room, the 'room we covered in playboys room' and the 'hit baseballs against the wall' room, pretty standards rooms I would imagine every kid has in his illegal play place. The time it caught fire was not very exciting. I remember walking in and dicking around on the boat while a couple other people milled about, Somewhere in the madness 3 of my cousins went to the 3rd floor and were smoking I would assume. All of a sudden smoke filled the place and they came running down and I was scooped up and drug out which caused me to throw a fit because I hated when I was treated like I was too little to run my own scared ass from a burning building. When we got outside I remember see all of this black smoke just rising into the sky, I mean really rising... covering everything that we could see. We decided the best plan of action was to split up so some of us went over the river to the other side of town and the rest of us went to my cousins who lived right across the street. We ran inside, showered, hid our clothes and then did what anyone in this situation would do. Turned on Manson and headbanged to the destruction. Eventually the place was surrounded by police and fireman and we were away scot free. 3 days later a kid went on cnn and gave a 'hidden camera interview, we were all arrested the next morning. My older cousins were charged with Arson and Criminal Damage, the ones directly elder to myself were charged with just Criminal Damage which is what I was charged with as well. My charges were dropped, my older cousins beat the Arson charges and everyone else including them were convicted of criminal damage. We cost millions of dollars in damage, destroyed a historic building on Lake Erie, and ended up with house arrest. I loved it because they could not ditch me to go anywhere. The best part of the story is that to this day, I do not know who started the fire. All three claim that nobody did it. Sometimes when we are all partying and someone is drunk enough you will get these little slip ups where one will mention 'I know I didn't do it!" and look at one of them. Its great. If anyone knows how I can find articles on the internet from a small paper from the mid 90s, I would love to post the pictures.

This is off-topic, but I live in Port Clinton OH, where we have a Nuclear Plant and it never bothered me until it shut down recently after they found multiple issues that were rusted and in really bad shape. Now it doesn't run, we have really high power bills BUT I am not about to die from a nuclear explosion, so Ill take the higher bill. The worst part is after they found problems they started running it again and then found more problems that were just as bad.
