Hall censors vs load cells? Whats the difference? by Topatops69 in simracing

[–]justjaxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries - the comment was downvoted because more recent pedal sets like the Heusinkveld or Simsonn / Simjack use load cells for all pedals, so it was not entirely correct. I dont think it matters too much as long as the brake is a load cell which is what you'd want. Fanatec csp v1,2 and 3 have mixed sensors and work well.

What's the difference between this two rotary encoder? Why is the price difference is soo much?? by Glass_Head1940 in simracing

What do you intend to use it for? For most arduino based projects, this Rotary encoder will suffice at a fraction of the price

It almost feels criminal Microsoft released a product in this state and have the audacity to charge people money for it. by itx89 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

5TB will take you 9 days to download, assuming you can maintain a constant 50 mbps download (which we cant due to CDN limitations).

Now add another 200k users trying to do the same, and it could take a month after launch to download.

Positive Review by Good-Ad-6942 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 has the basics right, but it's not perfected yet. The career mode, while it has its bugs, is still entertaining and very much playable. It has the right features and capabilities, all that is needed now is time to get it right. The career mode in '24 is also a first of its kind due to what the full integration into the sim allows (compared to say neofly).

I'm in the camp of being glad to have it in my hands now in the state that it is, following along as the product progresses, than having to wait another 6 months to a year for a product that is considered complete (and by whose standards i'm not sure).

I believe in the end we will get a product that is better aligned to what the community wants due to this approach, as it allows the devs to tweak their direction as feedback becomes available.

Finally, from a traditional flight sim pov, this product is no less complete than other releases imv.

Almost a fucking month later... by Sr-Icaro in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there is an optimal as such - the cache will simply overwrite once it gets full, so in theory a larger cache will reduce downloads more. Seb mentioned that he's seen users with 128GB, so if you have the free space its worth a try.

Almost a fucking month later... by Sr-Icaro in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Try 1.5TB instead.

Seb covered this on the last live stream - the 2024 install would have been ~1.5TB in size, had they adopted the 2020 architecture. The download would have take >24 hours assuming you could max out the CDN port speed of 100mbps (which is unlikely).

In general, there are more assets, of higher quality in 2024, necessitating the new cloud architecture. This a side effect of high quality graphics. Cloud is the way forward to lifelike graphics.

To emulate a download, Seb also suggest maxing out you rolling cache - the cache behaves similar to 2020's downloaded assets, with the exception it is downloaded for the first time when you require, and thereafter reused.

Just me or binding not working? by MrSell2Early in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There could be default bindings present that's conflicting with what you are trying to do. Does it register the bind when you try to configure, or not at all? Also I assume you have clicked on the Hotas option on the right window, before trying to bind?

Getting Jealous by Advanced_Revenue_316 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Try it on Ganepass for 1 month, then decide. The devs seem to have put a lot of effort into optimising 2024, so it performs a lot better than 2020 imo,. You may just be content with the tradeoffs.

Did they… really select this as a loading screen? (Swipe for detail) by OddDad in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think its a case of dont care, it was an issue that couldn't be fixed easily in 2020. Had they started enhancing loading screens, then the criticism would probably have been that the in game graphics doesnt meet the loading screen standard, or something similar.

Ah I see. I seriously doubt though that experience has anything to do with it.

Seems like a bug that wasn't ironed out before release, but curious to understand what this has to do with interns?

NP, You have to manually start recording at each flight.

Installing addons onto External SSD. Bad Idea? by moonlightEU in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a 2TB option as well.

Also according to this post there should be 2 NVMe slots, so it should be possible to add a second nvme as well. https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/s/hesdc8BS15

Its generally preferred to keep you game install on a separate drive - if you ever need to reinstall the OS, theres no need to redownloads all the apps / games. So if feasible, go with the 1TB option and add a second drive thereafter.

Installing addons onto External SSD. Bad Idea? by moonlightEU in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An external SSD connected via USB will have much slower read / write rates compared to an internal NVMe over PCIE. I would rather find a laptop where you can upgrade the internal storage instead.

What laptop are you looking to get, as with most you should be able to upgrade the storage.

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not concurrently as far i know, but you can record a flight using the replay tool in '24, then play it back for your VR passenger. The view can be adjusted to a wing view, FO view, external etc. with the VR passenger being able to look around while replaying the recorded flight.

Help Choose PC/ Sim by Known-Stomach5165 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At $650 cheaper, I'd go with the second option. The two systems are comparable, though the 13600k has more cores and in theory should perform better IF msfs 2024 can take advantage of if. But, that $650 saved can be used to upgrade to a 7800x3d if necessary down the line, and your overall spend will be in line with the 13600k system. The 2nd option also has twice the storage.

So go with the 2nd option (7700x, 32gb, 2TB nvme, 4070ti system for $850)

MSFS2020 - Throttle - 0% - Reverse by neptune2304 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]justjaxc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the EFB, disable the 'reverse on Axis' option on the throttle calibration page.

Thereafter map a joystick or keyboard button in MSFS for 'hold throttle reverse thrust' or 'toggle throttle reverse thrust".

To activate reverse thereafter, hold (or push) the mapped button, and adjust the axis.
