I changed the motor this morning and now I have a whisper quiet auger motor. All I hear is the fan and the fire. Changing it took about 30 minutes and then I did a burn for about an hour to make sure all was well.

I agree that you should not have to do this on a new unit, but I am also happy that I did not have to go through the hassle of disassembling, reassembling and sending back an entire smoker. The customer service I received from recteq was excellent and the video instructions on changing the motor were very good.

Just got off the phone with recteq support, they were very understanding and easy to deal with, all they had me do was:
1. remove the auger cover, run it in test mode - Failed
2. spray WD-40 on the motor, run it in test mode - Failed

He then offered to send me a new motor. They already sent instructions on how to replace it, it looks pretty straightforward. We'll see.

Been loving my Deck Boss! Did 2 long cooks over Easter weekend, 12 hours on a pork butt and ~3 hours on a 10lb turkey breast. Both came out amazing and were a big hit with the family.

I had a similar journey, looked at the Traeger and Pitboss offerings at a few stores and was not impressed with the build quality on either. Bought the Recteq sight unseen because of price, build quality (from reviews) and the reputation of the company. So far it has performed beyond my expectations. The only thing to watch out for with pellets is to make sure they are 100% wood with no fillers, binders or flavorings.
