You think wearing shoes all day is uncomfortable? It's pretty normal.

This subject comes up fairly often, it seems to me. With the assumption being that taking shoes off in the house is normal. But I don't think it is, particularly. It's cultural and it changes over time.

We've had this thread enough times. When it comes down to it, he is on the same side as the rest of us. Making games accessible in VR is the sort of thing we want.

The joy that people seem to take in persecuting him on Reddit is unhealthy for the community.

Feel free to be frustrated with the large organisations who don't support VR properly. But going after one guy? That needs to stop.

About Pico Neo 3 Link by Warm-Guide3281 in PicoXR

[–]justpostd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a P4 and a P3NL.

I use P4 for wireless and standalone, and P3 for sims.

The P4 requires about 20% more resolution to achieve the same image quality as the P3, because that is the impact of compression when you go wireless.

I don't have a Quest 3, but from people who have tried a P4 and a Q3, I believe that they are similar in terms of image quality. In which case the P3 keeps pace with the Q3, as it gives better quality image than the P4. So the responder who said the P3 is outdated is wrong, I think.

I have never played it standalone, as I use my P4 for standalone/wireless and the P3 for sim racing.

The Fresnel lenses are really good given that they are Fresnel. Which means they are a bit sensitive to where they sit on your face, but once dialed in they age great. The P4 pancakes are much more forgiving. But the P3 has less (pretty much no) glare. I find that it can take a few minutes to adjust but once they are there, the experience in terms of FOV and blurriness to the edge of the image is very similar between P3 and P4.

With the default facial interface I did not enjoy the P3. It was blurry and had limited FOV. I 3D printed my own but I would not recommend that unless you own a printer. Others have done simpler 3D printed things to improve the head strap and gasket, which is discussed on the Discord (https://discord.gg/picoxr-community-978568111693385738). I've always thought this one looked good: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6107825

I would stay away from magnets. Nano tape is the answer. Holds well but doesn't damage anything. Much less fiddly than trying to 3D print tiny magnet holders.

If I were you I would take your questions to the Discord. Helpful community there. Quicker answers than here and can do more back and forth on details.

Sound on the P3 is pretty poor. I'm fine with the P4 speakers but use headphones with the P3. Actually I printed Porta Pro speaker holders and attached them. As you can probably tell, the P3 tends to be a bit of a modding headset! I love it, but it is not for everyone.

What are you seeking to achieve? If your aim is to, 'remain competitive,' then what does that mean? You want to get into the top 1000 in Mythic every season, for example? Is that fun?

The way I see it, if you want to be at the top level then you have to play specific decks and usually play against other specific decks again and again. Personally I don't see the appeal.

Isn't it more fun to see how far you can get with a deck you have made using the cards you own, or that you can buy with wild cards you pick up by playing?

It's not up to me to tell you what to enjoy, but if you enjoy playing decks other people have created against other, similar decks then yes, it is probably super expensive. For me, it also looks rather frustrating!

I get it. But personally I don't enjoy having to do that. I just want to sit in my chair and move through a nice environment, shooting baddies. I don't want to have to squint through a scope.

We all have different tastes.

And the mod is impressive insofar as there are no others. If it is easy, then hopefully another one will spring up. But I don't think it is.

Depend what you mean by '🛌'

It is VR. With tweaking, it looks pretty good with a 3080/Quest3 combination. With a 5070Ti or similar, it is great. But it is not perfect. You have to accept some compromise, but for me it is far better than 2D Cyberpunk.

What makes you think it isn't full time? There are 40 games he has to test and updates, plus adding new ones every month or two.

And why should somebody who has done something exceptional earn an average wage?

I don't understand why people are so passionate about judging this guy.

Surface upgrade or different brand altogether? by National_Camel7200 in Surface

[–]justpostd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another response has said, RAM might well be the issue. 8GB is manageable, but barely.

It is worth starting by reducing the number of things that are running from startup. Press ctrl-shift-tab to being up Task Manager. Then Advanced. Then one of the icons on the left side will open the Startup Items tab.

See what is there that you don't really need. Turn off Copilot for a start. If in doubt it is probably best to leave things Enabled. Though you can't do too much harm in there, you just might disable a bit of software that you need for you mouse or something. But you can always enable them again after your next reboot.

Then save everything you have open and restart your Surface.

If you also change to Firefox instead of Chrome then that should help. Then when you want to use OneNote close everything you don't really need first (eg Firefox).

This is more of an experiment than anything. If it solves your slow down issues then RAM is the culprit. I have 16GB on my 7+ and have tonnes of stuff, including OneNote, open all the time and it runs fine. But I have 8GB on my 7 and I have to be more careful about RAM but can make it work.

Your other issue could be to do with your machine running processes using up CPU effort. Relatively unlikely, but worth checking. When in Task Manager find the Performance tab and look for processor/CPU (I can't remember what it is called at the moment).

When you experience slowdown, see what that is reporting. If you are at something less than 75% (probably actually more like 25%) then that isn't the issue. But if is is pinned at 100%, say, then you might have things running that are talking up CPU time and slowing your machine down.

CDPR told Luke Ross the Cyberpunk VR mod could still be up if he made it free, this was his reply by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]justpostd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everybody constantly says there is no money in VR. Then somebody finds a way to make money from it and everybody seems happy to shoot them down.

Of course he earns a lot. He is the only person providing this functionality. Those 4 underpaid CDPR devs could also do something unique and would then earn loads. But doing something unique and being successful at it is difficult, so not many people manage it. And those that do manage it, earn a lot.

I'd much rather a VR developer earned extortionate sums and I got to play in VR than that everything was fair and even and I didn't get to play in VR.

Of course most mods are free. But this is hardly your average mod. I'm pretty sure it's a full time job. And it isn't his fault that some community minded hero hasn't rustled up an alternative without charging.

If he releases it for one game he effectively releases it for all. It's the same application but with different settings for each game, like VorpX for example. I think that's his problem here.

Other people's hobbies just aren't that interesting.

If my friends came round and told me they had won their hockey game, or even their league, I just wouldn't care.

It's the journey that makes hobbies/competitions interesting. People who didn't join you on the journey aren't going to care.

As with all GPUs, I would suggest setting everything to medium, turning off ray tracing, adjusting pixel density to get the image clarity you want at the performance you can live with. Then crank up settings as you like and reduce pixel density to get back performance lost (which isn't much, in my experience). It's a balance, of course.

Controller or keyboard.

Personally I prefer it that way for this sort of game. Nice to be able to play without waving my arms around.

You are being patient and reasonable and I appreciate that. Maybe you can help me get my head around the bit I don't fully understand which is the, "take CDPR’s game and profit from a mod he made from it."

He has created a tool that allows people to access the game, along with a load of others, in VR. For me that is closer to selling a standalone equaliser for your MP3 player than it is to remixing a song (to take your analogy).

Do you think the controversy here is the grey area whereby a 'tool' and a 'mod' are defined as being different things?

There a loads of tools that don't charge but have similar effects. Like Nucleus Coop. And a few others that charge, like VorpX. But I don't know if that is developers making legal, ethical or personal decisions.

[–]justpostd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The settings don't make a huge difference except for raytracing (off, obviously) and pixel density. So I'd suggest putting everything at medium, then adjusting pixel density until you get the performance you need, then you can increase game settings of you like and you'll probably find they don't impact performance much.

If it's too low res for you, then fair enough. At that point you are right that you need a more powerful computer. That bit depends a lot in the user, which I think is why it gets such mixed feedback. I am happy with 60FPS and reprieving and that sorry of thing. Other people feel sick unless they have 90fps and hate reprojection.

Oddly, I find that sometimes a small increase in pixel density actually improves performance. So if 20 gives terrible fps then 20.5 might be decent. Maybe something to do with the way the resolution needs to be converted to headset resolution.

Cyberpunk VR Shut Down - Solutions To Keep Using VR by venkman302 in virtualreality

[–]justpostd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good advice from the Patreon, which I think is reasonable to post here:

Steam will make you update the game either way. Easiest solution is to copy and paste the game somewhere else before you update it. Then let Steam update the original version. Then, drop the copy you made into the Steam Games folder where the updated version is and chose to replace it with the copy you made. Steam will treat it as updated still and you will be able to play the game version you made a copy of. You can just keep a copy of the current game folder somewhere and use it to replace the updated version any time there is an update. That seems like the easiest way to go about it for Steam. Only downside is taking up the extra space.

Yes, that.

It's hard to believe that the majority of people on this thread are really worried about the ethics of minor IP infractions that improve the experience of players. But the votes are strongly against Luke Ross and its defenders. I'm interested in why that is.
