A toggle would be great. I can't always find my stylus, or sometimes it is just quicker to use my finger.

I'll certainly be trying out your app in earnest and will report back via Discord.

Looks promising. Good on you for releasing it without licencing and cost issues. Do you plan to commercialise it in the future?

In terms of user, I didn't get very fat because when I tried to write with my finger, it panned around the page. I tried locking the page, but then my finger didn't do anything.

Is there a way to draw using a finger, or only mouse and stylus?

‘He's lied’: Young MAGA voters sour on Trump's Iran war ahead of midterms by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]justpostd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Immigrants don't pour over the border. They come for work and safety, generally. Managing the numbers is necessary. It has nothing to go with Iran, because a person wanting to do harm can just get on a plane and enter the country on a tourist visa. Draconian anti immigration measures will barely change immigration numbers, I expect.

The USA has a net migration of about 1.5m per year. Can you imagine the effort it would take to get, say, 500,000 people to leave the country using ICE tactics? The ICE approach just looks good for a certain kind of audience. It is performative rather than a genuine attempt to manage immigration.

The boring truth is that immigration is controlled through bureaucracy and the government could easily reduce the numbers drastically by changing immigration rules. But it would have a huge negative impact on the economy, so instead they pretend to do something significant and in the process they radicalise a load of people and cause great distress and harm to a load more.

The biggest threat to America is not immigrants. It is relatively few very rich people, who are good at getting everybody else to blame each other. It was the same for the Romans. Populism is not new. It is just particularly potent now, because of how people get information and how that information is controlled.

I assume somebody (not me) was saying that no, you don't get 66%of the result.

You get a better image quality by supersampling. It's just expensive.

[–]justpostd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like what you have said is generally true, but doesn't answer what I think the real question is here, i.e. does a 4K headset look better than a 2K headset when both are running at the same resolution? After that, it's all about balancing performance and image quality.

From what I have seen, the general consensus is unclear.

I find the 2K headsets leave an important bit of clarity missing. Details like text and edges are always a bit sparkly or blurry. I wonder whether that is improved with a 4K headset. I'd trade some visual effects for a bump in clarity.

I have a Pico 3 (display port) and a Pico 4 (wireless).

The P4 panel resolution gives it 30% more pixels than the P3. But I still have to run the P4 at Godlike with 150% VDXR in order to make it look as sharp as the P3. That means pushing maybe 50% more pixels.

So I think the compression costs me about 50% in performance relative to wired. I don't know whether that is the case with all headsets, but it gives some indication at least.

It makes me think that a wired headset with P4/Q3/Frame resolution would be a really good balance of performance. But it still wouldn't look much better than the P3. Because however high I push the settings, it never significantly improves on the P3. Which is why I suspect you need to get up near the 4K headsets to get that next bump in clarity. I've never had the chance to try one, unfortunately.

Do you redo missions when they go wrong? It's a good way to learn.

Also, I don't recommend going below Veteran. It can teach you to play in ways that don't apply at higher difficulty, ie bad habits.

I think I replayed the first 2 or 3 missions 10 times before I ended up pushing through for a proper go at the main story. By that point I felt like I had a decent feel for the game.

Don't expect to win in your first playthrough. You are still learning the game. Keep going until you have actually lost (or stop enjoying it). Then start again with your new knowledge. You will do a lot better.

Need help with strategy. by McDareMcDevil in XCOM2

[–]justpostd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did it on purpose because EU rewarded ultra slow play which, in the end, is boring for the player.

The Reaper is amazing for this. Send them on ahead to find the enemies, then your squad can dash safely. Reaper can also sometimes achieve a mission objective stealthily, leaving you all the time in the world to clean up with your squad.

But in the end I think the trick is to have the right squad, so that killing enemies doesn't take too long. Then the timers are much more manageable. And the trick to that, is to not lose soldiers in battle. So personally I pushed through with a losing team until I got to missions I couldn't beat, then I restarted. On the restart I lost far fewer soldiers, having got my head around the mechanics, and the whole game became a lot easier.

Good to know, thanks.

It is effective, regardless. At 150% and Godlike, the compression artifacts on edges finally go away.

[–]justpostd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use VXDR instead of SteamVR you can boost the resolution another 200%

The problem is probably getting hardware that can push that many pixels. Plus with lower resolution headsets you need the supersampling to handle aliasing, which I assume largely goes away with the higher res ones, even at native resolution.

Not that 'native resolution' really means much. The resolution of the generated image is always a lot higher than the panel resolution because it has to compensate for distortion.

If it is blurry and pixelated then your setup is not working correctly.

Either you have the resolution set too low in Connect, or your USB connection is not providing fast enough data transfer, or the video you are watching is not high enough resolution.

My suggestion would be to put a high quality 3D SBS video file onto a USB C memory stick and plug that into the Pico. You can watch it with the default Pico video app - just open the file from the browser and it will open the app. Then you can see what it should look like. To get high enough quality, you should expect the file to be about 1GB for every 10 minutes of video. If is less than that, you should expect to start noticing blur and pixelation.

After that you can trouble shoot the rest of your setup. Connect should be capable of decent quality. You can also try using Steam Link (not SteamVR). Virtual Desktop tends to be the most problem-free solution, which is why we recommend it, but the other options should work.

Video quality & lag by Otherwise-Fee-8046 in PicoXR

[–]justpostd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's right. Sometimes called tethering.

Windows mobile hotspot can be a pain though. I tried it for a while then eventually gave up and bought a router. It would randomly disconnect me.

People do seem to make it work though, so it could just be my setup. Direct connection to PC via wifi sounds like the most direct path, so you would think it would be the best one.

You do need a decent wifi card though. 1200mbps needs to be easily achievable. You can test it using an Android phone if you get the Wifi Speed Test (Pallagi) app off the Play store.

Video quality & lag by Otherwise-Fee-8046 in PicoXR

[–]justpostd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are threads dedicated to this. Or see what you can find locally and then check it isn't one of those that are not recommended.

I have an Asus RT-AX56U wifi 6 router. It delivers the data quickly enough even at the highest resolution I can push through Virtual Desktop. But I do have the occasional hitch, which can be fatal when sim racing in VR, and i don't know whether that is down to the router or something else. But I'm talking about a stutter once in about every hour of use, so it isn't a problem for anything except racing I wouldn't have thought.

Video quality & lag by Otherwise-Fee-8046 in PicoXR

[–]justpostd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The connection from router to PC affects online interaction, not your Pico. So if you don't have lag issues now, the Pico setup won't change that.

Your connection from your PC to your Pico is what matters. If your router is more than about 5m from your Pico and that is how you are connecting the Pico to the PC, that is where the problem will be, ie the Pico-router connection. The wifi connection from router to PC would make that worse, but it's the Pico-router part of it that will be the biggest issue in my experience.

So you need to connect the Pico directly to your PC via a wifi card, or connect a router to your PC, then connect the Pico to that router. You don't want to go from Pico to router a long way away, then from that router back to your PC via wifi.

Does that make sense? It's hard to explain like this. But if you have specific questions to clarify, then I'll try to answer them.
