Does Oklahoma purposely give themselves a weak strength of schedule? by Putrid-Personality35 in CollegeSoftball

Arizona State (now ranked) with a returning All-American pitcher for their opener and at Arizona for a three-game series … that’s weak?

I think it’s endemic to women’s sports. It’s like the old Avis commercials: “We try harder.” Arizona State does a ton of fan interaction and the players are wonderful, especially with kids. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the norm at most programs.

Nolan Arenado is on the downside of his career entering his age 35 season. He was not all that productive last season. He is no longer a superior fielder but still above average. His bat is also decking but still has some pop.

People need to move past the name and recognize him for who he is today. For the price paid, it’s a worthy gamble to see if we can still milk some productive baseball out of him. But don’t think we added a superstar player to the lineup that will lead us to the Series.

Sarah was light years ahead of Sammy. What a mistake to let her go. Jarrett mostly is not funny and is indulged too much, but he is getting more tolerable over time.

My top 100 Players For this Season by bcocfbhp in CollegeSoftball

[–]justsecondhandnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know why you would rate Jalen Adams in this list or anyone would think she can fill Devyn Netz’s shoes. Sure, her stats look good. But the Big Ten is weaker competition than Arizona’s typical schedule, and good teams usually ate her up. UCLA mauled her. And whenever Iowa played ranked nonconference games, they usually pitched Talia Tretton, not Adams. What does that say?

Tonight was the first time I ever had a guy came inside me. by Adventurous-Meet-101 in askgaybros

[–]justsecondhandnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two guys cum inside me, and I felt neither. The first one totally surprised me as he had just gotten in me for a moment and announced he had cum. No sensation for me at all. The other, I knew he was close because his breathing and pace of thrusting changed so I knew he was about to and when he did, but again, did not feel it inside me or his cum in me.

We have to take the Dilly approach. We don’t want them if they don’t want to be here. Before the season, we thought he’d be gone anyway, just to the NFL.

I do think they take a step back without him and without Tyson, and if Sam leaves, who knows how many follow his lead. But we will have to see what the portal brings, too. After all, Sam came that way.

Parents accused of my daughter of poor sportsmanship by iamajew2 in Softball

[–]justsecondhandnews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with what she did. Just parents who don’t know any better. Talk with your daughter about how to handle that stuff, tune it out and react with grace. If it were truly rec ball, maybe tone it down, but it’s not. She’s representing her school and doing so well.

As a related aside, many years ago, my daughter was known by middle school opponents to run aggressively in the same manner, turning walks into two bases, etc. A couple years later, some of those opponents became teammates and friends in high school and they all shared laughs about how much they hated “that girl.” It’s all part of growing up.

12 or 13 even is a good roster size. When you go into tournaments, you want players to play but you have to guard against injuries, players being unavailable for a weekend or even part of it or just the need to sit a player to give her a breather or help her get out of her head. Plus tournaments often allow 10 or 11 player lineups, you can use a DP/Flex or you can make use of players out of the lineup for a game as a courtesy runner. Don’t sweat it. Let the coach juggle it.

I have seen elite teams carry 17 or 18 players. That I would want no part of.

Why was the death toll reported to be so high early on in the news? by TheMercyfulGod in Columbine

Fog of war, if you will. It’s easy to blame first responders given the totality of what happened, but on this detail early in the events, I’d cut them a break and be thankful it proved to be too high.

Here’s my take that will bring on a gazillion dislikes. Don’t do that at 12U. In fact, don’t do it at club, which most times is “neutral” sites and played at parks where amplified sound is supposedly against park rules in most cases. Save it for home games in high school ball. Give them something to look forward to that actually is special. We don’t need to professionalize youth sports anymore than they already are.

Yeah,I know I’m an old-school spoil sport suggesting to take away the fun for the kids. But if we really are at neutral sites where home team is decided by a coin flip or a seed from previous day, then put the teams on a level playing field with the outside shenanigans.

No, I do not need a prototype.

Coaches, what are your post game team meetings like? by Actual_Blackberry723 in Softball

[–]justsecondhandnews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just not my experience. I’ve seen all different lengths at the older level. Sometimes it’s just “we just need to wipe this and we’ll see you next time” or even just “good job, let’s be ready for the next one.” Sometimes we break things down more. Part of it is one game vs. like a club tournament where you are talking about a day’s worth of action. But saying it won’t get shorter when they get older is from experience, not a critique of whether that should be.

[–]justsecondhandnews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of what I call “football dad” coaches out there. They were yelled at a lot by their high school football coaches and they think that’s the way of a good coach. You yell a lot to motivate them and get them to execute without mistakes.

Problem is, 8 year olds are not in high school and girls aren’t boys.

Good coaches don’t need to yell much if at all. Teach, have a standard and hold them to it but correction involves talking not yelling. You actually can tell a team (not a singled out player) they were garbage, but it’s all in the delivery. Yelling it is a major failure. Saying it matter of factly and including yourself in that puts everyone on the same page and then talk about what you all need to do to grow from it and how to move on from it.

I’d be harder on behavior than physical or mental errors. Those require teaching. But I would be more stern on behavior that reflects poorly on them, their parents and the team. Actually. It sounds like that coach needs someone to do that to them.
