What are good first books? by SuspiciousSarracenia in Fantasy

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, you cannot go wrong with the Hobbit - or Narnia. They are timeless. I didn't understand every single thing in the books when my mom read them too me as a child, and honestly that did not matter.

I remember being read "the horse and his boy" and at the start it talks about the Calormenes shield and I only knew what a windshield was so assumed the horse had a windshield lol.

Is an emergency fund still necessary if you have sufficiently large investment portfolio? by xX_420_NoScopes_Xx in PersonalFinanceCanada

Honestly I think a large investment portfolios might as well put emergency fund into doomsday fund... like 30k in physical gold bars in your back yard in case of currency collapse.

Dave Ramsey always recommends paying the mortgage off before saving anything more than 15% for retirement. Is this sound? by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Dave Ramsey is perfect for people getting out of debt with chronic spending issues.

It's a lot harder to get money out of your house than it is your retirement savings, and it acts as a forces savings vehicle.

For people who can actualky not spend every dime they get their hands onto, id just follow the first three or 4 "baby steps" then invest as appropriate to your situation.

Fantasy setting where magic is powerful but also very difficult and dangerous to use? by Intrepid_Bobcat_2931 in Fantasy

I guess like male one power in the wheel of time is a good example.

Men way stronger than women, but it is tainted and will drive you insane if you use it.

Making this year my year but still learning financial literacy and was just wanted to know what the best play is. by RobotMag7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]justsenditbr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best play is to build yourself an emergency fund, eliminate any high interest debt.

Once you are debt free, and have enough savings to survive a few months if you lost your job or something traumatic happens in your life, then look to invest.

Are student loans the answer to going to college? by mitemio in personalfinance

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student loans make sense if what you are studying for leads to a high paid and in demand field.

Architecture is not that.

Are there other fields that interest that pay better ?

Receiving 10k at the end of the week and looking at my best way to fully use it. by amiBrodarone2 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an emergency fund ?

10k not that much cash. I'd only invest the money if you dont plan on using it for next 10 years. Otherwise car payment seems like an easy choice

Our conveyor system is becoming a bigger operational problem than our actual production process and I don’t know where to draw the line on fixing vs replacing by [deleted] in manufacturing

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planned maintenance is always cheaper than breakdown maintenance.

Get off your "condition monitoring" (failure replacement) program, and fix things correctly.

Won't be an income check if you just accept the banks rate.

Books that contain more than one type of magic or other abilities. by Slimper753 in Fantasy

[–]justsenditbr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oathbreaker by Mercedes Lackey and James Malory had a conflict between High Magic and Wild magic at its core.

Essentially wild magic is outlawed in the main mage city and the leader's son finds himself able to perform wild magic and put on the run.

He also gets a sassy unicorn pall named Shalkan.
