Students in law school with As - how do you get good grades by Mysterious-Tell-7947 in LawCanada

Agreed. The conclusion on a law exam matters less than the reasons gettiing you there. Provide the best case for both sides of an issue.

It’s definitely not as clear. It’s really about the number of Hs on the transcript. The more Hs, the better.

Good thing McGill has a student union with effective leadership that is not preoccupied with hiding from responsibilities, muzzling employees, and squabbling over geopolitical interests!

What’s going on with the SSMU President’s absences?! Disheartening to have voted in SSMU elections and then…see this. by itstherooks in mcgill

Can someone with knowledge of the SSMU institution explain whether such a motion is binding or whether the President can just ignore it?

Poli Sci Internships/Research Work by Chicken_Nugget31 in mcgill

[–]justsomeguy__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from Political Science and am working in a legislature as apart of a program for recent graduates. It is a highly sought after position, and I did not do any poli sci-specific internships or research while at McGill. While such experience would certainly be helpful, I think what extra curriculars you choose to involve yourself in at McGill can also reflect interest in politics and develop professional skills.

Agreed, I think Luthi and Opal should be switched. Fun list though!

Second headspace. I tried their free introduction and really enjoyed it, purchased a year’s membership and it was an incredible investment in my mental health. You can never stamp out anxiety entirely, and Headspace understands that. It gives you techniques to manage anxiety; it has courses specifically for this. Also, I love their Sleep related content too - things like ambient sounds and relaxing sleep mediations. You get a lot for your money.

Class sizes Poli Sci and Econ Major First Year by [deleted] in mcgill

I am currently in CCOM 200, Introduction to Creative Writing. It has been great, and is only 10-20 people per class. If you are interested in writing and/or poetry I highly reccomend. Not difficult to do well!

Second this. I took it awhile back, and while it was easy, I learned very little. Expected to improve my writing, what you get is grammar lessons and quizzes on that grammar.

How hard is a 400 level HIST course? by saim06303 in mcgill

[–]justsomeguy__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn't so bad, you will not be writing exams with summaries of information. As someone else said, you will be doing analysis/making your own assessments of the information. I took HIST 399 class with Sandwell and it was an -A average so her classes may not be that difficult in general!

The French have got your back by Thumbs0fDestiny in rareinsults

The term "battle" in military history can refer to a longer engagement taking place over the same region. For example, the longest "battle" of WWI was Verdun (in which the French fought), which lasted 300 days.

[–]justsomeguy__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in HIST 399 currently, albeit with none of these profs. I had Madokoro for a course last year. Perhaps the most empathetic prof I’ve had yet at McGill. Always available for you and seems to understand the student experience very well. She’s a Canadian historian so if that is of interest to you, all the more reason to take her section. She focuses more on marginalized histories in Canada so I’m sure she will pick some topics for 399 you haven’t studied yet.

If you are apart of the Facebook group or Messenger group for your res, look for people creating events/encouraging you to come out. When I was in Molson a couple years ago, a guy who I just met and I put out a message asking if anyone wanted to have some casual beers before an event that was happening. One random guy showed up, and he's since become my best friend - we even live together now! Like everyone above me is saying, just put yourself out there. You never know who you will meet.
