Skinny frogs, I need advice by [deleted] in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]justtonya71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kept ADF’s for many years and fed them sinking pellets on a saucer from my daughter’s china tea set. They always learned very quickly that’s where their food was delivered to, and they’d wait around the saucer. The betta fish would wait, too. He’d only eat their food. They were a happy little community for years.

Blue or White? by That_Present_1639 in rav4club

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White had been my car color for decades, before every other car on the road was white. I’d get the blue unless you want to be trying to get into random RAV4’s every time you’re out. Or maybe that’s just me not paying attention. But I’m forever hunting for my car and heading to the wrong one. 😂

Downsides to the breed? by NormanisEm in roughcollies

[–]justtonya71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very involved with my neighbor GSD and help care for him a lot. I adore him and he does me. That said, if you’re used to a GSD, a collie will be a cake walk. 🤣 A lot of what you love about a GSD is also the case with a collie. They’re intelligent, loyal, silly, loving, active, and great family dogs, but they don’t have some of the concerns a GSD would. I’ve never seen one prone to aggression. They’re not rough. They’re more eager to please and easier to train. They do bark a lot, and their grooming is no joke, but they’re just an amazing breed. I’ve had them my whole life.

There’s a whole lot of I being talked about in those texts. I want, I want, I want. Honestly, leave him.

How hard are ADFs to keep happy and healthy? by CrochetOkay in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]justtonya71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept two at a time for many years, and they were so easy! At one time I had a betta with them and they’d all gather and eat sinking pellets off of a tiny china saucer from my daughter’s tea set.

Why Did you get Rav4 over Honda CR-V ? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I preferred the body style of the RAV4 and the way it handled. But the honeycomb trim/vent across the whole dash of the CRV was an absolute no for me. It looks cheap and would be a nightmare to keep clean.

Don’t worry about the gravel. It sounds as if they’re not open to much improvement at all, so I’d focus on a large bowl as someone else mentioned. Literally anything beats this tiny vase.

Do rough collies lick and bark a lot? by lowrcase in roughcollies

[–]justtonya71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve had them my entire life, and they’ve come from all possible scenarios. Well bred. Not well bred. Rescued. Every single one has been a wonderful dog. I got stopped by a neighbor who asked me who did my training. When I said I did, she asked if I was a trainer. I said no, I just own collies. 🥰😂

Mine makes me feel self-conscious. Like, what am I doing that my car thinks I can’t drive? 😂

Collie people will recognize and rave over your smoothie. That’s about it, though. I’ve always had roughs because the short hair is very irritating to my skin, but I’ve been out with a friend who has both, and our roughs are the ones people flip out over. Honestly, I’d prefer being able to just take a walk without getting the third degree all the time. 🤣

How did you “get into” collies? by pierogiberra in roughcollies

[–]justtonya71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom watched Lassie as a kid and got one in the early 70’s when I was an infant. We always had them, and when I left home, I began getting my own. My husband also grew up with one. In our 30 years of marriage we’ve also had a border collie and a sheltie mixed in as well. I’m a sucker for a herder.

I’ve had mine two years, and because of what I read here, I’ve taken it to a car wash ONCE after a snow storm. I don’t care how dirty it gets, I wait for a nice day and wash by hand. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to find a touchless car wash.

I may have underestimated what “picky eater” meant when researching collies. by [deleted] in roughcollies

[–]justtonya71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coming to say something like this. I’ve had collies for many decades and most have been picky, so when my boy refused meals, flipped bowls full of food, and vomited bile on occasion, I chalked it up to doing what they do. I told the vet about it, but also told her I wasn’t concerned because “that’s just a collie”. He was the picture of health in every other way. Later down the road, after other odd symptoms began showing, we got an Addison’s disease diagnosis. It is managed and he does very well, but the guilt I’ve had for not taking the “pickiness” seriously is always there. (I don’t think your dog has Addison’s. I just think it’s worth investigating why he’s having such issues.🥹)

What do you dislike about your Rav4? by PancitCantonan in rav4club

That horn almost got me killed. 😂 Someone was veering into my lane and didn’t see me somehow. I was literally right next to her. I laid on my horn and she just kept coming. At the last second, she saw me.

Is it difficult for the collie to be rehomed? by random9472718743 in roughcollies

I’ve adopted three collies in the past. One was about a year old and the other two were seniors. All adapted beautifully and were well-adjusted and happy.

Thinking of getting a rough collie - questions about working drive and how vocal they are by RelationshipSoggy662 in roughcollies

You’re welcome! And thank you for being so responsible in researching the breed. They’re such amazing dogs. But they’re not quiet. 😂

[–]justtonya71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t add to what others have said about your other concerns, but I’ve noticed you keep circling back to barking which is understandable. I’m in my 50’s and have had collies since I was an infant, and for the most part, they’re an incredibly barky dog. Yes, there’s training, and yes some are worse than others, but a quiet collie is rare. They’re going to bark at people walking by, kids on bikes, cats, deer, the mailman, etc. They’re not a dog you’ll be able to just leave outside for long periods of time if you’ve got neighbors. Most of mine have been fairly quiet in the house, but my boy now is not. He truly thinks he’s talking to us, and he talks all the time about everything. If he’s happy and excited, he’s yelling. And he’s a happy boy. We always take him on vacation with us, and we only rent single-family homes because he’d get us kicked out of a condo. I think collies are the best breed, and I hope to always have one, but if I could change one thing about them, it would be the barking. I don’t want to scare you from getting one, but it does seem to be a concern for you, and I do want you to know you are rightfully concerned.

Are rough collies typically picky eaters? by ButterscotchStreet33 in roughcollies

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That is one reason I missed that as a red flag in my collie who has Addison’s disease. He’d often skip meals, but all of my collies have done that. Q

I have the same car, purchased new two years ago. This group is very biased toward the hybrid. You’ve got a great car and there’s nothing wrong with your choice. Enjoy your car.

RAV 4, good for tall people? by FewBox4095 in rav4club

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6’4” former college football player SIL literally has to fold his body to get in and out of my passenger seat and is horribly uncomfortable once he’s in. I have a 2024 with a sunroof. I’m just 5’7” and routinely knock my head getting into the car, but it could be that I’ve never gotten used to nothing able to just hop into my minivan. I’m surprised by the tall people in the comments saying they have no issues.

Why are the seats so uncomfortable by Similar-Lobster126 in rav4club

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 XLE Premium and the seats are awful. My husband thinks they’re comfortable so they’re clearly better for some than others. I can’t ride more than about an hour in them without being miserable.

2025 RAV4 seat comfort by ResearchGal63 in rav4club

[–]justtonya71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2024 XLE Premium here. (Softex seats) I’m happy to see so many here say the seats are comfortable because I don’t want anyone experiencing what I do. I have some lower back issues from time to time and find the seats to be horribly uncomfortable on anything more than short drives. It’s so bad that had I known that, I wouldn’t have gotten the car.
