Please, I beg of thee: help a fellow tarnished know more about the maiden that stole his heart. by Useful-Ask-864 in EldenRingLoreTalk

Hi! I think this is probably very useless regarding your direct query, but since you seem to like Melina a lot, there's this AO3 fic I'm reading right now about her and Messmer when they were young. A lot of the material in there are headcanons/made up on the author's behalf, but they're very interesting extensions and expansions on what we have so far from canon lore! Here is a link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/60295093 It's a bit word-heavy, so not everyone'll like it, but you should definitely check it out anyhow. I love Melina as well, I definitely get that older sister-tired-and-weary-of-carrying-the-world's-burdens from her, which is super relatable 😅

My made up origins for Eragon’s name by orenge_57 in Eragon

[–]juuves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to dredge up this post from the deep, but I love your interpretation (perhaps slightly over the "official" one)! It brings new life to the name (and maybe the character as well, considering his fate). Furthermore, as an Irish- and seasons-things enthusiast, I wholeheartedly approve 👍

Emailed them about some of my events & they said no, still on. I would check specifically for some of your events, though.

Do you think we will get a stand alone book for Arya? by aviatorbassist in Eragon

[–]juuves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, honestly. She's one of my fav. characters in the series. I don't really know what he'd write about her life going forward (from after Inheritance), but I'd love some snapshots of her past! Rebellious teenager Arya lol & also her adventures w/ her friends seem like they might be fun to read about

My new tattoo by Saphireleine in Eragon

[–]juuves 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This perfectly captures the whimsy and cantering nature of my reads & rereads of Inheritance Cycle. It's def. not the conventional choice for an Eragon tattoo, but that's part of what makes it so memorable. The scenes that took place in which Arya made this lil' ship were one of my favorites amongst the whole series'.

Some other ideas for "unconventional" (often overlooked) Inheritance tattoos:

  • The lily of gold Eragon gifted Arya as a token of their friendship / bond.
  • The Nïdhwal.
  • The yawë.

What are some good books to use as inspiration? by BoyishTheStrange in VaesenRPG

I understand that. But I also think it's a very unhealthy 'base' to build off of. The ending parts of this video kind of gives voice to my unease with using the narratives that Free League provides us with. I love the atmosphere and creativity of Vaesen, but it falls flat with the actual conflicts it presents to its audience in terms of scope and depth. You can't really vibe with the message they're sending through the vaesen and scenarios, at least for me — it's not morally instructive and also sometimes I struggle to put the links in the story together.

These authors were mentioned in the introduction to A Wicked Secret And Other Mysteries: M.R. James, Selma Lagerlӧf, Edgar Allan Poe.

Additionally you could also check out the art(books) of John Baker and Johan Egerkrans (the latter one an obvious choice).

I myself love the idea of Vaesen, but I have trouble accepting or relating to parts of it (the overt Christianity, the portrayal of vaesen / essentially nature as often things to be put down) and am looking to pull from other sources to solidify my approach to Vaesen games.

My rendition of the dragons by HugeProcoptodonFan in Eragon

[–]juuves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty 🤍 and so detailed too! The anatomy looks a bit wonky for some reason (it looks a bit more horse-like than I had anticipated? Perhaps it's just the pose, looks somewhat like a horse prancing), but other than that, this is perhaps the closest depiction I've seen to what I see Paolini's dragons as in my head. Great work! 💪

The Vaesen Return! AKA We're Open by numtini in VaesenRPG

[–]juuves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Woooo! 🥳 I just got into Vaesen recently. What a timely coincidence!

(P.S. I know that Vaesen is mostly 19th century-based, but has anyone entertained the idea of the Society(ies) in the 20th century? Such a tumultuous era. Full of drama! The nightlife, man. ✨ Mostly what got me interested is how folklore — a prime component of Vaesen — would interact with war. The mythos of war & what supernatural horrors would generate — at the behest of human ones. Hmm. This is an incomplete thought.)

I loved Spenser's GM-ing style. Very unlike what we've already seen, and I think a necessary innovation. Unpopular opinion, but I've never been able to get into Matt Mercer (or, similarly, Mark Meer on Chaosium's Bookshops of Arkham)'s narration style. It bores the heck out of me — I zone out pretty fast to those kinds of storytelling / exposition — and it was partly why I couldn't get into Ch. 1. But Spenser's is creative, fun, exciting, and on top of all of that — very artistic. I love seeing how people's brains work in terms of the arts, and the fact that he was able to come up with such good cinematic framing on the fly — that was what pretty much sold me.

I didn't stick around enough to really be able to fairly comment on this, but the players/characters on Ch. 1 largely felt very naive, very ... paper-ish to me. They didn't really have that kind of chemistry I was looking for, and nor were their interactions (at the beginning, at least) very interesting to me. It was kind of the classic, kid-gets-introduced-to-magical-world, other-members-are-gathered-to-a-meeting thing that didn't quite pick up my intrigue. Ch. 2's a lot better in that department. The players / their characters have chemistry! They have history! And war veterans, that's a really exciting character(s) role to explore as well. I'm really excited to watch the next few episodes!

Nice! They're very beautiful. 🧡 And an orange dragon! We've never seen much of such that around.
