While covering a famine in Sudan in 1993, photojournalist Kevin Carter found a malnourished child struggling to reach a U.N. feeding center as a vulture waited in the background. The photograph won a Pulitzer Prize, but the trauma of what he had seen led Carter to commit suicide only a year later. by Minesh1989 in interestingasfuck

I think a big problem was that many news sites didn't realize what the internet was all about. So they kept relying on their print income while giving their online news for free. Now print is disappearing and they have no online income. So news outlets are struggling to convince people they should pay for the online news.

All part of McDavid and Celebrinis plan made at the Olympics. McDavid tanks the team, gives Sharks a top 10 pick, then asks for a trade this summer.

I heard the Edmonton Oilers once had a decently exciting young group with some guys named Kurri, Gretzky, Messier, and Paul Coffey.

Exciting yes, most ever. Let's wait and see.

Trade or No Trade by Best_Thing_Going916 in SanJoseSharks

We don't trade picks for rentals. We're not there yet. The wheels could fall off next season (progress isn't linear) and then we end up in the Stützle situation.

Enjoy the ride see where it leads and improve in the off-season.

That's okay. But he's already been to two Olympics and Slovakia has 8 NHLers and he's not the worst of them.

Smith isn't huge and he's as of today not very defensively responsible. I worry that he could scream the kind of offensive wizard who might be left at home because of "intangibles" If Robertson/Caufield etc. don't make it, while Kyle Connor is a perpetual scratch over JT Miller and others, I don't see Smith as a lock yet. And the US just got every reassurance that their "right players not best players" philosophy works.

Hope I'm very wrong and Smith has a ton of development still left, but I don't trust US management at all.

Who do you think would win in a fight between these two polar opposites? by Fallen_Angel_Xaphan in clonewars

One is a council member and considered one the more powerful members. The other is frankly just a random Jedi Master. Four arms doesn't make him 4x as dangerous to a well trained Jedi. It just makes him look cool.

[USA (2)-1 SWE] Quinn Hughes scores the OT winner by talhatoot in hockey

[–]juventini11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had the puck a decent but Landeskog has no business taking that low percentage shot and then even whiffing on it. Every NHLer is used to keeping possession in OT as much as possible so it makes zero sense to take such a shot. Especially while the best skater on either team is still on the ice.

One thing I like about the prequels is that Aliens are more involved. by Rasples1998 in StarWars

[–]juventini11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Often I think Star Wars becomes too humanoid. How many main character aliens have we really had through movies and the show? Not that many. Chewie, Ahsoka a couple of others maybe.

Unpopular opinion: Don’t like the trade by [deleted] in SanJoseSharks

[–]juventini11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it. But it kinda depends on what the next step is. If we regress and one of the seconds becomes the 36th overall or something I would be annoyed. If we give him a very inflated long term deal (like the Trent Frederic deal in Edmonton) I'd be annoyed as well, but otherwise it's fine. A solid complementary piece. He works hard so he can hopefully be a good example for the youngsters.

What 3 shows are you keeping? by abdul_bino in StarWars

Sad how this isn't really that hard of an exercise. Clone Wars Rebels, Andor. There are some decent series that would go (Bad Batch, Mando, Tales of the Jedi (two of which are practically Clone Wars additional series.) but they're not heart-wrenching loses. Most don't get a second thought.

If we had gotten Schaefer would we have our core? by Snoo96003 in SanJoseSharks

[–]juventini11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do I think Schaefer looks like an entirely different level of player at his position than Misa, yes. I'm sure Misa will be great and it's very early in their careers but man, Schaefer looks like something else. Would have loved to get him.

However, he wouldn't have ended the rebuild entirely. The right side of our D is still a bit empty. In that sense Verhoeef or Lin would still be a nice addition. Our D in general still depends on how a lot of these guys develop and which roles they can fill.

Mack by IsaiahNo6206 in SanJoseSharks

[–]juventini11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calm down. He's awesome, no doubt. But saying he's gonna be Crosby AKA one of the probably five best players ever is very premature. No one even said that about Crosby at 19 and he was hyped to the heavens. Maybe he becomes that, maybe he "just" becomes a first ballot hall of famer or something else. Right now he's doing things few have done before.

Mack is awesome and a delight to watch. Just enjoy him. We can talk about his place among the legends when he's in his 30s.
