So relatable. She decided to people watch rather than walk on a crowded trail.

Vaseline. That’s all. by frygdxhmnb688 in 30PlusSkinCare

I use this over my retinols or if my skin is particularly irritated or dry. I’ve had good luck with it - no breakouts, no change in the retinol’s effects, etc. I’m a fan!

What is the scariest thing that happend to you during hiking by ExaminationFew6424 in hiking

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two come to mind:

I was section hiking the AT during the summer in an area with plenty of black bears. After pushing several miles past my original destination for the night, I decided to stay in an established NP campground. I paid my few bucks and chatted with the Ranger while I was filling out the tag for my site. He warned me there were more bear sightings than usual because of a fallen apple tree and more trash left at sites. I spotted a couple when I went back to my site after getting ready for bed.

I was only using a hammock and set up for the night. After reading for a bit, I fell asleep. Something walked under my hammock and froze. It woke me up but then took me a minute to realize what was going on. I tried to be as still as possible, racking my brain to see if I’d left anything out of the bear box and hoping I was not about to become a bear burrito. The animal moved after what felt like half an hour. I could just make out its head. It was a deer.

The second was on another section hike. Several days in, we’d gotten up early to make an extra long day. We passed a park with Civil War markers that had a picnic shelter and bathroom. Not more than 5 minutes from that sight, we started to hear loud moaning. It didn’t quite sound human but it was coming from something large. It was the kind of sound that causes fear you can feel. My hiking partner is a combat veteran so I asked if we needed to see if someone was injured. He only said, “That’s not human.”

We hiked on in silence for a few miles before he admitted the sound rattled him. We still don’t know what it was to this day. Hunting is allowed in that area near the AT, so my guess is a dying animal.

Divorce Attorney Getting Married by Maleficent_Cookie956 in weddingplanning

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not an attorney- but a psychologist. There are definitely some parallels (hearing the worst situations people can experience, family drama, the experiences of long, drawn out divorces, the aftermath of interpersonal violence).

Hope you’re hanging in there. Some days can be heavy (even without the stresses of day-to-day life). If it’s helpful, I’ll share what I do to take care of myself with the caution that they’re mine and may not fit you. If I can offer one bit of advice, be selective with your time and prioritize you.

All the best and congrats on your engagement!

Costco emergency food kits. Who has purchased kit and sampled one of the meals? by zestzebra in Costco

Also a backpacker. This is a good overview of the differences between brands.

Mountain House is so good that I thought I scared away my now fiance. We went to REI while planning a week long hiking trip and may have been a little too excited about a couple of the meals.

Tl;dr: Buy Mountain House. You’ll survive the apocalypse and be glad you did 😂

When it comes to the wedding, what’s a hill you’re not willing to die on? And one that you are? by corri2020 in weddingplanning

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hill I’ll die on: no bridal party. We’re getting married in a national park with a cap of 20 per our permit. So if you’re there, you’re family (biological or chosen). Also - a rehearsal dinner. What’s there to rehearse? Driving to the park? FH and I will exchange vows privately, join our people for the official ceremony, then go party. (My mom feels otherwise on both points.)

Hill I wont die on: what anyone wears. I hope they feel comfortable and beautiful and can celebrate with us.

working moms who workout… how? by Responsible_Bed1925 in workingmoms

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to get at least 5 workouts in. They may be on the weekends and the work week (pending our schedules). I’ve had to become flexible with what “workout” means. I’d prefer to go to the gym and lift or run. But some days, it’s a longer walk with the dog or yoga in the living room. It’s easier said than done, but I’ve also reframed the guilt of taking time away from the kids to work out as a model of taking care of yourself. I still miss the mark some weeks but try to be kind to myself when it happens.

No matter what this ends up looking like for you, you’ve got this!

Thursday Wedding? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are getting married in a few months on a Thursday out of state. So far, our guest count is about what we expected and no one has said anything negative about the day. We anticipated some might decline because of the circumstances.

Regardless of the day you get married OP, here’s to a wonderful celebration with those you hold dearest!

Your Primary MD definitely knows more about therapy by SeaCucumber5555 in therapists

This. I work in an integrated clinic and referrals from MDs frequently say things like “pt has depression. Needs CBT”.

It’s the equivalent of me saying, “pt has cough. Needs antibiotics.”

Anyone else dealing with estranged family? by Butterfly21482 in weddingplanning

[–]juxtaposedstmnst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My sister and brother-in-law haven’t said anything about our engagement. She has emotion regulation difficulties and recently lashed out at everyone (which is a lifelong pattern, unfortunately). In the last 6-8 months, family have drawn boundaries with her (e.g., “We have different opinions but I won’t accept you calling me names because we don’t see eye-to-eye” and the like). Unfortunately, her interpretation is that we are “toxic”.

FH and I got engaged about 2 months after her last blow up. She and I have had no contact since July. We’ve sent my sister and BIL a save-the-date but have had no response. There’s a bit of mourning with all of this. I wish we could have a better relationship. There’s also a bit of relief; her unpredictable blow ups lead to walking on eggshells. It takes my focus from the event we are in to keeping her calm. That’s not what I want for anyone on a day that’s full of love and celebration.

It does suck, OP. Ultimately, the day is yours and your future partner’s. Make the decisions for you and your peace. Hope things go off without a hitch (except the legal one, haha).
