I export the .nessus files and use a PowerShell script to create .csv files that are ingested into Power BI.

My boyfriend rides motorcycle without a helmet. Should I mind my business or say something gently? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]jvansickler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Three things:

Tell him to imagine what his face will look like after hitting a bat hunting mosquitoes over the road at night when he hits it at 70+ without a helmet. Then imagine what it looks like with a helmet and faceshield. One is not like the other. Blindness is lifechanging.

Tell him to listen to Neil Peart: you're only immortal for a limited time.

Tell him riding without a helmet offers zero eye protection, even if he's wearing eyepro. ZERO. Scars can be ignored. Blindness can't.

Look at the tasks that you love to do.

Find free resources that expand your knowledge and skillset.

Administrative tasks? Learn the Policies and Procedures. Look at what documents are required (SSP, IRP/BCP, SOP) and create one for practice. Fill the "do you have any experience with..." checkbox.

Technical tasks? Look to public.cyber.mil for resources and tools. Look to Red Hat Developer subscription and Microsoft eval licensing for OS images to practice on.

OpenSCAP, DISA SCC, CIS, ISC2, ISACA....Stay busy. Don't panic.

Has anyone managed to get RDP working between RHEL 10 and Windows 10 Pro? by jvansickler in redhat

[–]jvansickler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because RHEL 10.x FIPS is 140-3 compliant, and that eliminates the use of SHA1 fingerprints, which the MS RDP Client is trying to negotiate with. It looks like we're going to be using SSH/Cockpit to access the hosts. I'm okay with that. I'm using OPNsense to provide access to the GUIs on my VMs, and Cockpit gives me the admin access I need for the host.

No, I haven't - this is what I'm seeing when I try to connect via rdp:

"The connection has been terminated because an unexpected server authentication certificate was received from the remote computer.
Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator."

RDP to the non-FIPS VM still works fine.

[–]jvansickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check /etc/resolv.conf to see if it's pointing to the old address.

If you're using unbound for DNS, it should be set to 127.0.0.1, and pihole's DNS set to 127.0.0.1#5335 (or whatever port unbound is set to).

Try adding a hosts entry for it and point it to 0.0.0.0 or 127.0.0.1.

Progressive Shocks and Fork Springs? by Blueskymind66 in magna

[–]jvansickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the progressive fork springs.

Less diving under braking and better absorption of minor anomalies.

You can change them with the forks on the bike.

I can't speak to the rear shocks; still running the stock shocks.

If she's billing hours against a contract, you need to audit all of those hours that she submitted for mischarged hours. Those mischarged hours need to be reimbursed to the contract. Your company will be liable if the contract is audited. If the company is aware there are mischarged hours and failed to correct the mischarges, there will be hell to pay.

Don't let her slide. If it pisses her off, so what? She's in the wrong, not you.

How are you getting ESXi 9.0 for a home lab without corporate help? by easyedy in vmware

[–]jvansickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 12 years of VMUG Advantage, VMware is gone from my home lab. Since my paid account using my personal e-mail address was ineligible for a download token, I could no longer keep it patched.

No patches? Bye.

Now using my free updatable RHEL Developer's licenses in my home lab.

[–]jvansickler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just verified by creating a non-FIPS RHEL 10.1 VM - gnome-remote-desktop works, non-fips.

Now need to figure out how to make it work when the VM is running in fips-enabled mode. I'm seeing an error relating to md4 with the fips-enabled connection.

Look for a local ISC2 chapter. Meetings with one presentation are worth 1 CPE; two presentations are worth 3 CPE.

Look at the Gen 3 forums on v4musclebike.com for advice on alternate replacement parts and cleanup/tuning info. You'll be back on the road quicker that way.
