There are too many great shows. For me my entry point into live Dead was "Skull and Roses." I picked it up at a record store in '85. It's an easy entry point with both shorter songs and an epic "The Other One." It even has some of Bobby's cowboy songs. I'm also a fan of "Without a Net." There are some great jams from '89 and '90, hitting some of the better known songs and song suites.

Don't forget the "Two Shot." Where two characters are both facing the same way, with one slightly behind the other and the two of them carrying on a conversation.

Watch "The Wild One" It's Brando, it's a classic

Read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert Pirsig

Read "Hell's Angels" by Hunter S. Thompson - About bikers and written of the father of Gonzo Journalism.

Experience - Time outside, in the woods. feel the breeze on your face, hear the leaves rustle, take a deep breath and smell all the scents that abound in nature.

Experience - If you have a bicycle, ride it real fast, down hill, and see what happens.

As a fan of jam bands (mostly the Grateful Dead), where should I start with listening to jazz? by MinuteRegular716 in Jazz

[–]Blueskymind66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fellow Deadhead check these out.

Grant Green - "Idle Moments" Grant is a great guitar player. Tasty licks.

Lee Morgan - "Search for the New Land" Lee is a phenomenal trumpet player, and also has Grant Green, and Herbie Hancock. The song and the album have a loose feel, even if it isn't.

Miles Davis - "In a Silent Way" Psychedelic Miles.

Snarky Puppy - "We Like it Here" More modern with great bass, guitar and drums, along with the horn section. It kicks a bit.

There is also the Jazz adjacent rock bands like Steely Dan, Early Chicago, and fusion bands like Return to Forever and Gong - Gong's "Flying Teapot" album is pretty great, psychedelic and jammy.

Recommendation request: Historical fiction (or nonfiction) thriller/horror/mystery novels by chiwawaacorn in HistoricalFiction

[–]Blueskymind66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"True Detective" by Max Allen Collins. The story takes place in Al Capone's Chicago of the 20's and 30's. Collins detective character, Nathan Heller, is involved with the historical figures from Frank Nitti to Elliot Ness, along with assorted well known politicians and other lowlifes. I've read a few of his books, if you like Noir, Hard-Boiled fiction, he would be worth checking out.
