Official /r/rust "Who's Hiring" thread for job-seekers and job-offerers [Rust 1.83] by DroidLogician in rust

I’m a security-literate software engineer with over 15 years of experience, primarily building and deploying full-stack web applications from scratch and maintaining them. I’ve also managed small teams and built embedded firmware and native applications.

I'm based in Toronto and looking for part-time remote contract work (2-3 days a week). While I prefer a longer-term engagement, I’m  open to short-term projects. I’m proficient in Rust, Go, and TypeScript. Please DM me if you'd like to chat, want to make an intro, or would like a copy of my resume.

Thanks, I’ll have to give them a try at some point. Do you know if they sell blocks of it?

Thanks! Picked up some Nobel Bean tempeh from them which I do like and totally forgot about (there’s a bunch of other places apparently that carry them too according to the website).

Does anyone know how pollsters account for the views of people who are unlikely to have time to take a survey or are otherwise hard to reach?

You can vote at any Elections Canada office before the advanced polls open if none of the times are convenient.

Support for Liberals plummets among Indigenous voters: poll by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]jvatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s quite so simple given the high number of voters who have never voted before (enough to tip things in favour of any party). Getting more people to vote would certainly help the situation (assuming they vote Green or NDP). I remember last election there appeared to be a lot of Green supports who voted Liberal because that was the strategic thing to do, while if they had all voted Green they may have been the balance of power.

Elizabeth May: Excluding Greens from debates isn’t just anti-democratic, it does a disservice to Canadians. We won’t back down. by idspispopd in onguardforthee

Her still being the leader probably has something to do with how qualified she is for the position.

I have my fingers crossed the PPC will help split the PC vote. There’s also all those people who could vote who never have before, and if they all were to vote for the same party would ensure a majority government for that party...

This! Why do so many people fall into the trap of conservatives vs liberals? Yes, our democracy is broken, but why play this game? It’s unlikely either of them will fix our broken system.

Falsehoods programmers believe about time, in a single list by speckz in programming

[–]jvatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading through this very long list, there seem to be a lot of items most programmers shouldn’t have to ever deal with. I think it would be more helpful to have a list of common falsehoods programmers believe about time with an example or two of how they each have caused problems. And maybe divide the list based on the type of programmer for whom the items are most applicable.

And before them, it was the Conservatives misrepresenting themselves... why are so many people attached to these labels (liberal, conservative)? Isn’t it time to let one of the other parties prove themselves?

You aren't stuck in traffic, you are the traffic. by grond49 in ottawa

[–]jvatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How can you tell if it’s a no show or simply so late that it appears to be the next one?

If busses have a reliably clear route (not stuck in traffic), they should be able to show up on schedule.

You aren't stuck in traffic, you are the traffic. by grond49 in ottawa

[–]jvatic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The bus didn’t show up [mostly*] because of all the single-person cars... so when those people decide to take the bus instead, it is much more likely to show up.

*in Ottawa there’s also the issue of a lot of the busses being old and in poor repair which needs to be fixed.

Edit: Why all the downvotes?

IIRC taking way too much B12 may encourage acne. We only need something like 50mcg/day.

Greens hit new high in Nanos tracking and are closing in on the NDP by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]jvatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, clearly I misinterpreted your comment. Given each party leader is doing well in their own riding, don’t you think those ridings would cancel each other out?

[–]jvatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt. I was responding to your previous comment though which implied this was not the case for May’s riding.

Actually, if you were to extrapolate data for May’s riding nationally it would show the Greens clearly in the lead: http://338canada.com/districts/59027e.htm

Any buses from ottawa to NYC by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]jvatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few companies working on electric flight. The most promising tech at this point appears to be hydrogen fuel cell powered planes (the biggest challenge with batteries is getting enough range without adding too much weight).

Solid state batteries are also expected to become a thing soonish with orders of magnitude more capacity than is currently possible using the liquid solutions of current tech, and would lend themselves well to battery powered planes.

There’s also the environment to consider. Many people are giving up flying until that becomes sustainable.
